  1. Weren't most of the Iraqi ones abandoned by the crews without firing a shot? (in GW1 at least!)

    Stone

Some, but barring the typical catastrophic Russian tank turret toss, you can't really be sure (unless it's burnt through and through). 120mm might be hard to miss, but 25mm and 30mm fired by the Bradley and Hog are smaller and easily skipped...

AFAIK the US is the only nation to use Depleted uranium slugs in cannons..

  2. I see it as a "pre-stripped" project. Its more a case of repainting a lot of parts and bolting it back together. I also have most of the bits. Others have undertaken far more difficult restorations (ie Adrian and Jims' Shermans rebuilt from range wrecks).

    Pre-stripped? you're an optimistic person!

That's a good thing to have with this project.

  3. That dude be me :coffee:

Fascinating, but I'd hate to think of what could go wrong...

    Link to the documentary?

I'm guessing they used a lot of CGI and computers, since the rest of the area is very non-Afghanish, they're focusing on the one 'act' per work and then editing it in to a CGI scenery/afghan photography.

Although the Saracen made me laugh...I don't think it would last that long in Afghan hands!

  4. Now..who is selling a pig in the US?

Thanks for the replies all. I found the technical info very informative and helpful.

The manufacturing pictures are super cool, BTW, whoever has all those saved should be crowned King of the forums for a month.

  5. I should think that in the US variant the only thing kept was the armoured box!

Yep, except with very much upgraded brakes and power steering so turning/stops aren't as much of an issue.

I would assume the armoured body imparts a lot of stiffness, and reduces point loading on the frame, almost eliminating the need for one.

That's the answer I was looking for. Anything else?

  6. They are that good a vehicle that a lot of ex-British Army ones were bought by US police forces, for their SWAT teams..........:coffee:

    Yep.

They're selling off some of theirs now and replacing them with other vehicles like the Bearcat. I'm looking to score a pig, hence my asking.

  7. How does a 1 ton truck that has several tons of armor on it even manage to move?

Seems to me several tons of armor+8 dismounts/gear would be enough to snap the frame in half.

I take it then that the humber is made of sterner stuff then I'm aware of...

  8. Now that I see a normal (Normal=5'10"-6 foot) human next to a fox I can finnaly see how small they are.

A fox without a turret...only about 10,000 pounds or so? Getty up lil dawwgy.

  9. As for wild pigs! Sometime ago in Kent, Rural by British standards, only about 100 people per square mile. Someone decided to raise wild boar. closley penned of course! Till a major hurricane in 1987 decided to flatten everything and they all got loose. Walking in the woods in some places has become quite intresting in places. there are also Wild Wallabies (The Australian Hopping thing) in Derbyshire. Also please come and take your grey squirrels back! The **** things are a bl**dy nusiance! Not to mention we seem to have bred a bullet proof variety,:-D

Probably taste great along with some fine English beverages. I've always wanted to call in an artillery or mortar strike on a herd of pigs..
