  1. Okay Richard,

     

    we are getting there!

     

    In my British Defence Equipment Catalogue of 1984, they talk about a conversion potential of the FV2406 to obtain a four-wheeled close-coupled one.

     

    So I suppose they went int production sometime after that year.

     

    So we now know what to look for!

     

    So to everyone: I could do with all info on these conversions.

  2. Hello All,

     

    you could be right about the plate and the year! I was very suprised about the year because it looks more eighties to me. Also the weight of 2 Tons is over the top I think.

    So the chance that someone wanted it to be older or capable of carrying more weight is very realistic.

     

    The trailer hasn't been delivered yet but I certainly remember:

     

    - it has such a small MOD record plate

    - I would be very suprised if it wasn't built for the MOD because every item on it is realy military spec(lights, electric cabling, reflectors,....)

    - I think there is even such an MOD barcode sticker. I will check this when it arrives (Dec 23 rd)

     

    If you open the picture and zoom in, you can see that under the blue plate, there has been a military id plate. The small grey sticker at the right of it must be the MOD bar code.

     

    OK I have to look for the technical info of this trailer. I will need this specs to have it registered over here! Indeed, most parts are the same as the arrows trailers. Can somebody tell me what companies made those trailers?

    It was bought to be British Military:confused:

     

    Attached a picture of the indication plate stating CWK Engineering in Leeds as the manufacturar. The hydraulic brake damper is SACOL (similar to the ones on the wide tracks).

     

    The man who sold it, bought the combination of the Bedford and the trailer. To me, they go togetgher because they match so very well. The trailer has a roll in front, taking the cable, so that the winch of the towing vehicle can be used to put a vehicle on the trailer.

     

    I would have tought this would be an easier one to trace, but maybe I have something very unique:cool2:

  4. Hello,

     

    I bought this recovery trailer and I'm looking for all possible information on it (TM?)

     

    It was built 1959 and can take 5 Tons. It was behind a Bedford TM recovery. I suppose it was for recovering LR's and Ferrets?

     

    It has to go behind the Leyland 4 tonner and take the Carawagon to shows.

    a friend of mine has a humber PIG with the dashboard taken out. They just cutted the wiring:argh::argh:

     

    Can somebody help us out with an electrical scheme/wiring diagram?

  6. Last week, the liberation of Brussels was commemorated with a ceremony in front of the Belgian Brigade statue.

     

    The people of our BADGER group involved with the 25 pounders and the Belgian Brigade were asked to fire a salute in front of all the veterans, the representors of the Belgian king and the minister of defence, the ambassadors of Great Britain and Luxemburg some high rank officers of the Belgian army and lots of other officials.

     

    I have to say that the veterans were moved and very emotional seeing the display we made. This is somehow the highest achievement we can have.

    Our next outing is @ Bastogne in December were there wil be a salute in front of the American Ambassador at the opening of a statue.

     

    Next year on D-DAY we are opening a "Belgian Brigade" museum @ the Merville battery. I will keep you all informed on this.

    Does anyone know (or can confirm) that the British army used HONDA trikes (BIG RED 250cc) in the eighties?

     

    If so, does anyone have pics of these?

  8. OK here he is!!

     

    About Wings and Wheels. This takes place at about 2 km from where I live. I'm not part of the organisation.

     

    If you want my opinion:

     

    This is maybe the largest show in Belgium, but I always have the feeling that it is one commercial organisation with no focus on the people bringing vehicles and making the show. If you bring a vehicle, you have to pay. Even this year, my 2 sons (10 & 13 years old) have to pay extra -> this would mean 30 Euros for the whole family and....nothing in return (no meals,...). So I take 2 vehicles @ 20 euros!

     

    Even one year, we had to pay 0,5 Euros to go to the toilet and there was no water supply in the vehicles area.

     

    No movements allowed, no arena, stay of the grass, "local top of the pops" in the evening,...

     

    But it still remains one of the biggest shows overhere, I prefer others but....I always go (rather large militaria fair).

     

    You have to know, here in Belgium we are not spoiled as in the UK when it comes to militay shows!

    YOU FORGOT TO MENTION ONE "VERY IMPORTANT" SHOW:

     

    BRITISH WHEELS AND TRACKS 2008 form August 1st to 4th in Waarschoot, Belgium.

     

    I'm sure you'll like it if smaller shows with focus on the participants is your thing.

     

    I'm putting the agenda for this show on our website this week as we have the approval of it by the town.

     

    On friday afternoon, we have a ride out and we visit some important WWII related places in the region.

    Saterday and sunday, we have an arena for WWI, WWII and Post war displays.

    On saterday evening our most famous bbq and beer tent.

     

    So I pray the weather is fine (sorry Lee) and hope to see some of you.

  9. Hello Cedric,

     

    I'm following this thread with interest as I'm doing a camper conversion myself @ the moment.

     

    The base was a MOD transportable container that went on a Leyland /DAF.

     

    We did put fixed windows in the sides (fixed to keep it a bit original -> the windows in the doors were also fixed), but now, I would also go for the sliding ones.

     

    The whole interior came out and we started from scratch. I also ceated storage, accessable from the ouside (by the 2 doors in the front).

     

    The most interesting bit that was in the container, was a seat/bench that could be converted in 2 beds (one above the other -> don't know the English word for it). I used this original design to make two of them that converts into 2 double beds (140x200). So it sleeps 4 and seats 8. Ahhh, comfort!
