Paul, are you saying that "www.thecoldwar museum.com" is your website ?

I cant get it to work and Facebook is a no go for me and others. We do not all live in Facebook world

Its too far for me so I'm looking forward to the website.

Are those just threaded spacers/stand-offs?  Most nut and bolt suppliers should be able to help you out, methinks.

    Andy

No supplier I know hold anything this size and why would they, I did ask my favourite imperial nut and bolt supplier. But as I said if I cannot find anything I will have to make them seems overkill though

  3. after deciding to recover the rear hatch of my Spartan I procded to remove some of the furniture when I manged to break off 2 adaptors.

Looking through my parts lists I cant seem to find them and before I start to make new ones I was wondering if anyone had a couple

or knew where I could get some from. The attached pictures show the adapator but with the sound insulation removed ( I might do that)

There seems to be 2 types both have an inch long hex body (1/2" across the flats) with a 5/16 UNC thread 0.375" long and taking a 1/4 unf bolt.

but if some one has the other type I am sure I can over come as they are only going through holes in plate metal (a first aid kit and rubber strap)

    Cheers in advance

  4. Just in case anyone is following this I thought I would update the post. Tried scraping the paint off, just went through the covering were the covering was "tired".

So then used a mild paint remover, this removed the first 2 or 3 layers but again not a lot of good were the covering was already distressed.

So plan c - Got a new seal, new canvas covering, strong tape and new foam (for the edges) and a big tub of contact adhesive.

As I am working outside once the weather turns back I will be getting on with it...

They look like the slide for don10 reels used in op hides that runs out a field set hand set, to run through he vehicles on board comes and crypto out to higher or other units/ troop commanders or simply to the crew from the op operator. Fun fact each vehicle could be used as a signal booster sets being chain linked together like a repeater over Lang distance, I do love a good tangent.

Thank you for that information, having looked up don 10 reels I can see some reels in housings that definitely would fit in those brackets...

    Hi Lance,

The bolts go though the hinges as you said... if you put the box on the top of the Spartan it should be obvious. I had one of these boxes but took it off as it stops the roof hatches from opening.

And do you what purpose the 3 plates on the front face have?

At the moment only one roof door opens with ease the other needs leverage, so until I can get it to somewhere to carry on the easing process I thought I could do with more storage.

  7. I have just acquired the top box for my Spartan. (Pictures below ) I have got is red as I have been treating the rust.

But I have a couple of questions,

I cant seem to find anything in the manuals about how the box is actually attached on the roof. You can see in Top3 there are  hefty tabs, with holes in them, that are at the bottom of the "to box" , If I am to use these 4 fixing points, I cant see any natural points on the roof that any fixing can got to.

Top2 is just an overview picture but if you look on the inside to the right, there appears to be to long strengthening bars.

In Picture 3 you can see 3 plates bolted on to the outside and wondering what they are for.

This box always seems t be covered in "stuff" so making identifying what things are is not easy.

    Cheers Lance

  9. Hi and welcome,

i am sure if you’re not a million miles away from another owner they would be only to pleased to drop round or if that’s not possible to have you over for a play and instruction. I was very fortunate that the guy I brought my Spartan from also had a scorpion which he let me drive round an industrial estate while he hung on to the barrel.. since then I have had several ex drivers over to talk about, and give me tips on cvrt driving and maintenance, as well of course the members on here, some of which are very helpful and really know their stuff.

    Lance

  10. I am sure there are all sorts of tips for this, but I don't know them and I have tried to find a post on here about it, which failed, did find an interesting post on standard tools required for looking after a CVRT. There are a few I haven't got but I am sure when I come across those jobs I will read the books, and make as needed.

Back to the point of the post :- on the inside of the door (mainly) and ceiling I have noticed the "paint has cracked" I called a local upholsterer who's advice was to cover it up with a cloth stuck on over the top,

I did however notice on a video someone in the background was "treating" the backdoor and later on in the video, on a further walk around,  the inside of the backdoor looked faultless, which leads me to ask how was it done? I noticed that some of the paint on the ceiling came off in flakes when I mounted an AAFL and LSVM over the backdoor.

All help, as normal, gratefully received

Lance you mention FV682771  but your picture shows FV692771, so one is a typo. With respect are you certain of the other numbers? It is just that I have a large database of stores items but can't find either.

I have a MVEE book of Spartan stowage diagrams but unfortunately no LAW just Carl Gustav.

I have to say go with the number in the picture. It comes from  a friend who is cataloging his huge array of spares . I will ask him to confirm the number by looking at the part itself

    Lance

  12. Hi,

I have attached 2 pictures the first one  is listed as FV682771 and I have no idea what it is or which vehicle it fits on so any ideas.

The second I have more on information on 2590-99-720-9807 LAW 80 Stowage - Spartan, not listed on any web site (apart from NSN) and not listed in any parts books or technical manuals I have. It says for a Spartan on the lable and has some fittings (screws etc)  anyone have any idea where it's fitted (inside or out, front or back)

    Thanks in advanced

    Lance
