would it be possible to come in the week sometime  to interview you and video your vehicle

Hi, yes of course always wanted to be a video star. I don’t have a field so it will have to be car park or small road run

    Hi

Can anyone recommend a good CNC steel cutting service in the South East?  My current project is going to require lots of complex pieces and having them laser or plasma cut will save a lot of time.

    Thanks in advance

    Hi,

I noticed your plea and no response and I don't know where you are, but I have found an engineering workshop in High Wycombe called "Sprayblast Engineering" they have done some paintwork for me but I noticed a full engineering workshop there as well. I have given them some parts I need for my Spartan and they have agreed to make them. Cant say more than that

    Cheers Lance

  3. Hi again.

I was very lucky to have someone who used to instruct and drive Spartan's and he was very useful in pointing out lots I didn't and couldn't know (bits missing etc). One such thing was the dipstick for the gearbox that comes through the bulkhead into the drivers position. Again I didn't know it was missing. I have looked through the normal websites and part manuals but cant find any so the search is on either for a dipstick or for the dimensions of a real dipstick so I can make one (including the position of the max and min lines).

Anyone out there that can help?

    Cheers Lance

Leave it to soak in Parafin as long as you are going to have it 'On the Back Buner'.

It wont hurt it at all, but can only serve to work it's way into the threads.

I have done similar with items not on a high priority list. That were 'stubborn'!....

They ALL freed off eventually! ;)

It is returning to the parafin this morning till I need the parafin to flush the tank :) which is another back burner job. Well until the end of the month. :)

    thats the gearbox oil filler

oils is easy-everything is the same oil-15/40w

brake fluid-ONLY USE A MINERAL OIL SUCH AS CITROEN LHM

really any grease will do for the ram as its not lubricating

Thank you one more thing I can tick off, I will use 15/40 semi synthetic for everything :)

    once less frustration

  6. Hi,

There maybe another post (I did look) that covers this but as a new Spartan owner I am trying hard to get to grips with everything and this includes the different fluids required.

I have been talking to ex drivers and they have each told me different stories about what different types they used to use, or maybe they are the same types but have different names according to which unit you belonged to. So if anyone can please point me to, or provide me a list, I would be a lot more comfortable.

I am talking about Gearbox oil, Engine oil, road/ idler Wheel hubs or the type of grease in the track tensioners. I am sure you get the idea I do have manuals and they give me really useful information like Engine Lubrication is 11.4 Litres but not oil type or the gearbox takes 11.3 litres or a road wheel hub takes 0.3 litres

I have attached a copy of a picture of the engine and gearbox with the deck removed. You might notice a circle around a twist off cap, I am not sure what this does at all as the diagrams show the oil filler and water being near the enigne not the radiator.

  7. Still cant move it. I have now soaked it in parafin for 8 days, and applied heat but still seem unabe to undo this beast. I have managed to break one if my vices with the effort i put in. I did talk to an ex driver who said he remembered the hatches he had were about the same effort to move so with that in mind i am putting on a very big back burner.

  8. I hope you are enjoying your new toy :) and I had problems with all sorts of places including DVLA, MVT and so on.

Bovingdon were really helpful and MVT did come through in the end, but took lots of emails. DVLA went all helpful too in the end  telling exactly what I needed to do to get it through it did all take 5 months and lots swearing. SIRHC from here was able to impart wise words to. Eventually people did start to answer it just took a long time, including BaE Systems who had some records...

  9. Hi Chris,

As I mentioned the White's sale was £7000+ and the last lots went at Brightwells for £2500 to £3000. I did notice the control panels removed but on 2 of the lots the panel was actually still with the vehicle, along with some of the vehicles having tracks. I did look at some Spartan's at Whites and they were in an awful conditions as well. On one I could not see if there was and engine as you could not open the engine louvre.

And you are correct I was thinking that I may purchase one for spares for my Spartan hence why I wanted some "knowledge"

  10. Hi,

I am sure everyone will have noticed Brightwells Auctions are flogging off non-running Spartans for knock down prices.

Has any member actually brought any of them?

Does anyone know how many they have to shift?

Does anyone know anyone who has brought one?

I believe Witham Specialist Vehicles auctions have lost the contract to sell military vehicles in favour of Brightwells but the I am sure the last sale at Withams non running CVRT's were going for £7000 + . A bit of difference

Has anyone any thoughts or can provide fact not just rumour

    Lance

  11. I don't know myself, but I know how frustrating it can be if no one answers :) you might want to try Bovingdon they have been really helpful to me in sorting out the history for my beast.

Soak the Equilibrator in Kerro or Parafin for a week or so. Act's like a penetrating fluid & should help free up

    What you need to remove.

the Equilibrator has a cover which I am told because it has flats onthe body should screw off. I and trying to take it apart as it does not seem to do anything and it takes no effort, since I unsiezed it, to push the piston in and out.

  13. I have tried to take the big hammer to this and failed. I have applied heat and brute strength and still nothing. I am going to contact a local Tank specialist see if they can help, they may have a bigger hammer :)

On the plus side I have been unseizing things left right and center. Some parts I need fabricating as they have been removed and no one seems to have any and the roof doors finally opened, more difficulty in closing them, I hope the movement will "free" them even more :)

Minus the electrics are not working as they should, Brake lights, front side lights and dipped headlights all don't work... still how boring if everything was working, I would have to be out driving it :)

  14. Having just spent a little while on the phone with the owner I am getting a truer picture. The owner has a collection of vehicles including a Scorpion so he is used to running CVRT's . He actually made a typo in his original post and has already put 10/30 in as well as flushing and cleaning the filter. None of this helped. he understands how the mechanical boxes, as he is old school (his words) work but this "fly by wire" is new to him. He is sending through the pages of his manuals that talk about the gearbox so I can read all about them.
