  1. Just as a side note , it's always interesting that people call things "museum reserve collection". It is not a reserve collection it is "the collection ". It's just that a museum only normally displays a small part of its collection to the public at one time.

The aim of a museum is normally to preserve artefacts, secondly is to display to the public .

If you want accurate information about anything in the collection ask some from the "curatorial team". There are always lots of very willing and knowledgable volunteers who are keen to help and answer questions but do not always the museum collection policy's .

If you ask some one on the curatorial team of a museum for a copy of the Collections policy and the Accessions and Disposals policy (the A.D & P ). Their hands may be tied and not able to accept items that do not fit into the collection policy .

Also beware of some private collections calling themselves a "Museum " . Normally a good private collection will call themselves a "collection". If you wish to donate items to a "museum" ask to see some of their policy's so you know what will happen to your item.

Th s could end up a whole other thread , sorry not trying to hijack this thread , nice to see some of the behind the closed door stuff again at Hendon.

  2. The sight works off day light , I don't think they were ever fitted with a illuminating unit . I have had several and still have a few , and they are all the sale. But a great sight to fire live with , just put circle on the target and away you go !

  3. The man responsible for bring all the vehicles together on B of B is an old friend of mine Alan Tomkins, he was the Art Director on that (as well as Star Wars and Saving Private Ryan) Alan was at the War and Peace show this year with us this year, And is a stornch supporter of the military vehicle world, he was telling me stories of getting all the armour together for the programme , one of the Cromwells and one of the Sherman's belonged to Denis Roberts.

  4. Hi John,

Yes I remember the emails from you to me, and the conversations and emails etc I had with the NAM back in 2007 when the whole legality of the gift was looked into then. If you would like to come over for a chat about the tank you are more than welcome .

  5. John, thanks for the back ground info on the vehicle.

Just so it's clear , the Tank is the property of the East England Military Museum not me personally . We have not yet decided what period of its history to restore the vehicle to or what it's going to represent . This is the very early stages of the restoration. The aim is that the vehicle is brought up to a reliable running vehicle .

  6. Thanks Richard, they did have some nice vehicles in there. The Comet we use to run was an ex test bed vehicle from RARDE. It had some extra bolts welded on the back and front of the hull.

Adrain did they stamp any numbers into the hull anywhere on Cromwells ?

  7. Hi Wally, thanks for the bit of history. The work did not seem to match your standard of work at MAT. Yes the fuel tank was a Bedford one with green garden hose as fuel line. It still has a cut down office chair as a drivers seat. I have only ever know it with the damage on it , Apparently it happened during the move from MAT to Donnington. I collected it from Donnington about 7 years ago. It will all be made good !

The 105 is in good order, but it looks to have been fitted just so that it had a gun in it for display. Odd bits of plate inside holding it in . I have no ID for the vehicle so always interested if any of you guys know of more info.

Yes we will do a resto thread on here .
