  1. Management at work has decided to put one or more vehicles into a deep storage. Vehicles are not being used enough.

We will be starting with a CVR(T) Sabre.

Here is the list of items that I have considered but am looking for input from others as to additional thoughts.

We will be using a 20 ft sea container as the storage device set on concrete under a lean to roof but subject to ambient air temperatures

    1. remove all fuel and run engine dry add fogging agent at the end to the carb.

2 remove spark plugs and inject fogging agent

    3 remove batteries

4 jack and block vehicle to stress relieve the torsion bars

    5 remove all track tension

6 flush coolant system and put in new coolant for the appropriate temperature range

  2. Which engine variant is your model petrol or diesel?

That will dictate a wealth of the detail on the roof as the changes have happened over the years and it would be a shame to have a petrol model with all the added Bowman comms and cam net pole mounts which would not be period.

  3. I frequent a few forums including this one, the variety helps and offers different inputs from others.

I know there is or was a policy of not leading people away from HMVF but I don't see it as that so here goes.

If you have been trying to register for MLU there has been a backlog for ages.

If I know you and you want in then pm me on here with your email address and I will pit the word in for you. It is being done by vouching these days to speed things up

    Regards

  4. Have you thought about the MOD freedom of information request? That will give you the year into service.

I believe that Gaydon, the British Motor Industry Heritage organisataion will for a fee send you the build data if you quote the chassis number details, that should nail the moth and year if not the day down.

What other help can I give you?

  5. Dear Tom,

I am in many ways a purist but I darn well loved reading your accounts of what was done to the vehicle and how and why.

Very interesting, please don't stop on my account, great read.

By the way, how did it perform? Looks like the centre of gravity was way lower and th power to weight ratio was good and the only issue would be choice of tyres.

I have a soft spot for anything Alvis six wheeled, I was fortunate enough to swim a Stalwart out here in Canada adn drive it cross country. Loved it.

  6. Howdy,

The Wolf in the collection has a sometimes problem.

The pedal goes right to the floor and stays there, does not bounce back up.

    Fluid level is good.

Sometimes it comes right back up no worries. It can do that for ages. Then all of a sudden it goes wonky again.

    Any suggestions?

  7. Steve aka Capt Max and everyone else,

I am no expert, an enthusiastic amateur is a description that sits better with me.

The M series lights are wrong era on the front and back compared to what was in service but are merely representative of the species.

There has been for many years been the folklore spread that only square hatched vehicles were in Canadian service.

That is the myth I am slowly breaking down, one detail and one vehicle at a time. This monument is significant in that process.

  8. Dear Pekka,

I am all about rivet counting on these vehicles.

The plate on the front is missing whatever was on there as a plaque and shows evidence of sand blasting.

The vehicle has recently been spruced up.

There is another giveaway detail that confirms the Canadian connection but I will share that later

  9. The top is closed to prevent the ingress of water and snow, quite a common modification when preparing a Ferret as a monument or Gate Guardian in Canada. Bren Carriers have it done this way also.

Prevents wayward souls from using it as a haunt or place to sleep off a skin full after being in the mess, stops birds from nesting etc.

From street level you cant see that it is filled in.

The bin sides are smooth sheet steel as the bins are rotted and these vehicles have been out of service since 1981 and a chunk of plate is easy and expedient and the funds for such monuments are tight.

What is of real significance is that this is only the second Ferret that I know of currently with the later production sloped side hatches that was in Canadian service.

I will be obtaining the hull using a remote viewing technology later down he line.

  10. I thought I would show this here just for the record.

It is a significant vehicle in my opinion.

It is located at Canadian Forces Base Borden in Ontario, Canada.

If you want to take photos permission has to be obtained to avoid problems s the building behind is sensitive.

I visited recently and made arrangements.

The colour scheme etc is not accurate and they have done the best the can with what they have.

    Regards
