Well on the whole I thought it was pretty good, ok Kitcheners was a bit rough for camping but I've camped on a lot worse,
toilets and showers on Kitcheners was a bit grim at times for the amount of people there, yes it was a slog to get around
at times in the sun I must admit it passed through my mind to waylay one of those invalid scooter things, the biggest gripe
we had was not with the organisers but on Tuesday morning when we got there was with a group that had marked off a large
area and had 2 vehicles, on we set up our tents and then were told this is reserved for our group who are coming and we were asked to move which we did only to see only 2 more vehicles arrive and over half the area that was roped off left empty, the
encampment next to us was set up when we arrived on Tuesday and Friday night people started to come and fill it up, next year
we will be there over 500 miles for the round trip but it's worth it

I was there at 06.30 and the only thing I saw was that the showers were not working the toilets were
and about 1 hour later nothing was working because there was no water

A lot depends on the country you are bringing it in from

So, as usual lots of spaces being claimed who may only arrive on the wednesday when the show begins or even later?
Damn, we have to drive in 4 countrys and cross the channel to HOPE we'll find a place while looking at nearly empty claims as allmost allways.
And we'll arrive this Saturday.
I agree it is annoying to drive 250 miles to find vast areas roped off and only to get claimed later in the week or
find that it is only half occupied maybe the organisers could come up with a system where by if it is not claimed
or occupied to its potential they do not get to rope off again just a thought

There is an old WW2 USAAF airfield at Lessay in the next village to ours in Normandy
and you could hire a 4 seater plane with a pilot and do the D Day beaches if I remember
rightly it wasn't that expensive either

The cost of buying a diesel engine and having it fitted to a GMC would just be uneconomic
unless you intended doing a massive amount of driving to recoup your investment I know
diesel is cheaper to buy but you are only saving less than 10 pence a litre

Our 6X6 used to average about the 12 to 14 to the gallon mark averaging about the 40 to 45 mph and
also have loads of space it was easier to drive than the GMC and a lot easier to manouvere around
as well but I am biased in favour of Dodges also a Dodge will run on contaminated fuel i.e. diesel/petrol
which have been drained out of cars that have been miss fueled upto a 15% mix at max which makes
very cheap motoring a GMC does not run well on contam at all Ohh and I like your style with the Hotels

I am off to Normandy on the 29th of May in my Dodge Command Car and dropping down
into Brittany first from Cherborg via Mont St Michel then looping around and coming up to
the beaches for the 6th June not as far as you are contemplating I suppose but we have
over 200 miles to drive in the U.K. to just to a ferry port good luck on your trip it it was me
doing your trip I would go for a Dodge 6X6

First crack the nut off on the pipe that goes into the carb one turn should be enough then prime the pump and see if fuel
comes out, if not next check the flexi connector to check this take the pipe out of the filter put your finger over the end then
prime the pump you should get a suction on your finger if not you have a leak on the system if it has got suction reconnect the take the other pipe off the filter and prime again see if you heve suction if not the gasket on the filter is cream crackered

You will need to change the bracket if you buy the kit other than that just make your own
it isn't that hard when you buy your alternator pick one that is a popular model i.e. from
a popular car in the scrap yard that way you will have a plentiful supply of cheap replacements
if you are still looking for a 12 volt starter motor I a spare
