As this Forum is aware getting imperial sized marked tyres is getting increasingly difficult. Older sized tube type tyres are either low volume production making them expensive or no new production, relying on old stock for supplies. As time goes by compromise is going to have to be the name of the game as age related use comes into effect. Metric marked tyres are going to be all that will be available, or possibly some imports from countries still using the old format.

It is a long time since I have seen any 36x8 tyres, I would think the closest today would be 11R.22-5.

This is now a game of patience, the parts you want are out there it's just a matter of finding them in the world stores. There was a rumour I heard a couple of years ago of three of these vehicles parked in a timber yard in the Scottish boarders. Have you put a wanted advert on Facebook, Soft skinned military vehicles?

It's going to be hard finding parts.

I always had a couple of blocks of wood with me for when it stepped out of the track chains. It was a bit more difficult on the ones with a rope blade. Fast on scrapper work.

I think the one I know of was purchased running about 3 years ago for £600. There had been a few people looking at it.

I seem to remember a double joint in the ball behind the transfer box. 

If it is just a prop shaft people like Propshaft services will make you a new one as long as the splined ends are O.K. Do a bit more investigating before you attack the enclosed shaft.

I know of a similar unit the small excitor generator is used to start the lister. Unscrew all of the large knurled nut decompressors then with it spinning over close them. If it has fuel it should start.

Getting the torque tube apart is a filthy and awkward job.

There are quite a few firms that will reline your plate.
