  1. Chris I hadn't viewed it in that way. But it does look rather like one but not the answer I'm looking for.
  2. Last one for a little while then I'll give it a rest.
  3. Clever man! Richard does it again spot on!
  4. Lauren very very warm almost there :-D
  5. Good suggestion Lauren. But this is a white disc rather than a circle. I should add it is not directly associated with vehicles.
  6. Calm down Rick that's far too exciting a purpose
  7. You night well be right Wally on that, this particular one is a bit bigger. It is a white disc rather than a black circle. But the book being printed on white paper gives the impression of a black circle. When this symbol is used it would generally have no black edge just a white disc.
  8. Not specifically Wally. We seem to have started off earlier in the Middle East & have drifted into India, which is the correct area for the use of this flag. Basically "native troops" black disc yellow flag - any theatre, "British troops" red disc yellow flag - but only when in India. Various religions & castes had different requirements & expectations for the processes that I won't go into in detail. Separation of 1 & 2, use of water rather than paper etc. All these sensitivities were encompassed in the Regulations.
  9. Oh no no Merlin they wouldn't have been allowed to use them. They had to use a flag with a different coloured disc.
  10. ...and you've said again. That'll increase the hits :-D
  11. Not necessarily officers but British troops only David. No doubt there would have been further subdivision with notices, there are no official flags for this though. Not the Middle East but you are getting warm
  12. Come on Roy its not over yet. Two questions outstanding still. For whom & where?
  13. I know you were only joking? Yes well done latrines! But these were special latrines not just for anyone & only in a certain part of the world. Anyone?
  14. Seems reasonable Peter, but as I said not vehicle related.
  15. Might be a bit difficult Wally when the lights change, hoisting the next flag. If there were any flown at the roadside you might get more than you bargained for :-D
  16. Not aware of a special flag for that, but this was used in a hot place.
  17. Not vehicle related Wally. This was from a set of three flags used by the British Army that might be used in certain circumstances outside the UK.
  18. So this is not a national flag. It was in use with the British Army certainly up to 1938. I have not found a postwar reference to its use.
