  1. I want the electronic ignition eventually but the company is not responding to emails for some reason...
  2. Any one have some insight on what the part number would be for a Ferret condenser? I am able to find ignition points at the regular retailers but nobody seems to have the condenser. Since my Ferret is burning points terribly, I thinks its time to replace mine
  3. I swear the 4 spots under the hubs have gotten smaller every week!
  4. Can you confirm for sure that even the early version of these have the reinforcement pressing? My understanding is that the channels changed a few times over the course of the production. I know that CMD copied a channel that was taken directly off an MK 2/1 Ferret. Also, for me, its about the alternative. Is there is a source of original stamping channels out there? I think every Ferret would have them if there was. Rather what I see is nearly every restored ferret either has PSP or nothing on the front of it. Perhaps I am not enough of a stickler for perfect but if I lined up 1000 people from an average military vehicle show, 1000 of them would have no idea what the reinforcement dimple is. Heck, most have never seen a Ferret. Anyway, I just figured I would post up what I found. If nobody has any interest, I am sure they will become NLA and it will be back to PSP. There was another guy in the USA a few years ago who did this and he disappeared...
  5. The company that makes M151 panels here in the US just started making Ferret sand channels. I got one of the first sets and took some pics of them on my Ferret. If anyone is interested, they are $350 per set plus shipping. Can contact them here: http://www.m151bodypanels.com/contact.htm Please ignore the state of my ferret. I'm installing mirror mounts and smoke grenade launchers so it's a bit of a mess Pics!
  6. Could I ask how long it took to get your response from the MOD? I am on my 3rd week of waiting and still nothing.... TJ
  7. Since the tires are new and all bought at the same time I assumed they would be close enough in size. Perhaps thats not the case and I need to measure! I jacked up the left side and there doesnt seem to be anything amiss. Wheels turn in unison and they roll smooth. Im going to paint the lines on the hubs and use them to check for windup as well.... I took my oldest son and 2 of his friends to thier 8th grade graduation dance in the Ferret. It got quite a bit of attention :wow:
  8. Tires are new and it was just out last weekend. I don't think it was a flat spot. If it wasn't windup, is there anything in the wheel station I should check? Felt like front left tire. But it would go away and then come back. Odd....
  9. All, did some miles today in the Ferret and noticed what seemed like an out of round wheel. Occasionaly it was like one front wheel was going over a bump, but it wasnt. It wasnt all the time but did happen a lot over the course of the drive. More noticable at low speed when it was acting up. Other times, smooth as silk. I had someone watch me drive and the wheels looked fine. Could this just be the fun of wind up on dry pavement?
  10. Found 1 set of points really dirty. I thought I cleaned them before but after taking them out, I saw that I wasn't thorough. Burnished both sets and drove it around today. No missfire so far but the real test is the parade tomorrow. Does anyone know how many people it takes to push a Ferret off the when it breaks down?
  11. Problem is it runs smooth now....until the plugs foul and it starts to misfire. So there is no way to adjust those screws based on engine running. It runs great until the plugs foul....super frustrating! Based on the firing order it looks like 1 set of points is triggering those 3 cylinders while the other set does the clean 3. I will test that theory later today....
  12. Thanks Richard! I did adjust them to manual specs and they are equal turns out. Im not sure what else to adjust there. Is the intake manifold split all the way down to the head so that the 2 sections of the carb dont work together at all? Its just such a stark difference from from front cylinders to back!
  13. Im trying to get the ferret ready for a parade this weekend and I have a stubborn plug fouling issue. Whats strange is it only happens on the rear 3 cylinders(closest to radiator). Those 3 plugs are very sooty and foul at idle. Revving the engine high and holding it there gets them firing again. The front 3 plugs have a nice light brown coating when pulled and never foul. Does anyone know what the back 3 cyliners share that the front 3 dont? Does one set of points control them while the other set of points does the front? Is this a points sync issue? Any help would be much appreciated!!
  14. So I found the correct seal. Here it is for future reference if anyone else may need it. C R OIL SEAL # 19822 ,, 2" ID X 2-3/4" OD X 3/8" WIDE Turns out mine was torn all across the bottom, likely from an initial installation issue. TJ
  15. Does anyone have a part number for the inner bevel box input shaft seal? I have one thats a massive leaker. I think all the oil I put into that box has now leaked out onto the hull floor. Looks easy enough to change the seal but I cant seem to find any info on the replacement seal. Any part numbers would be much appreciated! TJ
  16. Thanks for confirming Richard If its supposed to sound like sitting in a 55 gallon drum running a die grinder than ear plugs are simply required!
  17. So I finally got the Ferret out on the road. The balky distributor cap is behaving well enough to keep all 6 cyl running as long as I clean it before I run it. My question is, how loud should it be inside? To me, its worse than my M35A2 and that required full hearing protection to drive. It sounds like a lot of straight cut gears but its really high pitched and harsh. I end up gear changing early just because of the noises it makes at high RPM. I know you cant hear it through the internet, but any insights from people who have driven one on the normal noise level I should expect? Pic from kids soccer practice yesterday TJ
  18. So I can't find much on the internet for NSN numbers. Does anyone know for sure if the CVRT cap will interchange with the B series ferret cap? They sure look the same but it would not be fun to find out they don't fit after I get it in my hands....
  19. "These two cylinders that don't run they are not 2 & 3 or 4 & 5 by any chance?" It's cyl 1 that's dead at slow idle. A few revs and once the engine speeds up it begins to spark.
  20. Its possible there are other factors at play but since the cap is so nasty, its hard to reliably troubleshoot all the other items. I have swapped plugs and the problem persists in the same 2 cylinders. I ohm checked the wires and they are all about the same. I dont think its coil related because its just the 2 cylinders and not all of them. The only oddity I cant account for is that the cylinder is mostly dead at idle but if I rev it up, it begins sparking(verified with the ht lead off the offending cylinders). But again, with the cap being so gross, its hard to do as much troubleshooting downstream from there... TJ
  21. Thanks all. Im trying to get in touch with Khaki Imports....no luck so far but I'm going to try again today. The pits in the posts are just from wear, not contact with the rotor. I have seen it before in very old VW caps. The spark eventually wears away a spot which increases the gap. The pits in this cap are right in the center of the post, the edges are fine. I did check the wires on top and they are quite firmly seated. Best case, I would replace the HT leads as well but since getting these parts seems to be a bit of a trial over here I am not sure how far I will get. TJ
  22. Its far beyond cleaning. There are deep pits scortched into the posts. Its as if it were the original cap from 1962! It needs to be replaced and due to timing, its asap
  23. So the Ferret went to its first MV show this weekend! Sadly it ran like crap off idle due to what looks like a really corroded distributor cap. I have a parade coming up and I would love to drive the Ferret but I cant find a place in the US to buy a new cap. Parts from the UK seem to take too long to arrive to be in time for the parade. Any tips on a place here in the states that could provide a cap in short order? Thanks in advance! TJ
  24. That's great news Richard! So I don't need to deal with lead additive anymore!
