  1. The awnser to some of these may be in the forum somewhere but here are some old photos of preserved MWs, question is are they around now as they probably are and who now owns them the first five were taken at the old Shottersbrooke rallies in the very early 1970s and the last one at one of the early Duxford shows. Lets hope they all pop up in the right order this time

  2. Way back in issue no 45 of Wheels and Tracks Bart featured a set of photos of this supurb large scale model of the Pioneer artillery tractor but never got as far as explaining what happened to it. I and i am sure many others would like to know did it survive and if so where is it now. It is well known that most if not all of the Rootes collection of models built to the same exacting detail survive within the the IWM collection which by the way if anyone from the IWM reads this should all be out on display and not tucked away in cabinets, i well remember these on display as a kid at Lambeth in the 1950s

  3. Just been watching a Coast programme which featured the Faroe ilse a mentioned was made of the British occupation during WW2. they showed a restored Bedford QL now is this from the Faroe,s or was shipped out for the programme to emphasise the point of the British involvement. It was also mentioned that when the Army left they left around 300 military vehicles for the locals to use as transport now do any of these survive in one way or another bearing in mind the weather would not have been on the vehicles side and are some still in use out there, some interesting points here i wonder what awnsers we will get

    cheers

  5. A few more to get this thread on the move, first two are the revamped MK with the TL tilt cab. Most of these cabs replaced the tactical refueller with just a few as general service.

photo 3 and 4 are the bedford TK 3 ton these were used for base duties and driver training, not many of these have made it into preservation which is a surprise as it is quite a easy vehicle to rebuild and maintain

  6. I am well aware that we have a number of varied threads on the forum that discuss types of P W British 3 and 4 ton trucks but felt it would be benificial to start a pictorial thread covering the many types and even more on the varient side of these military trucks that to be honest we have all grown up with since 1950 to the current Leyland DAF.

So to start why not the long serving Bedford RL 3 tonner and a prototype Austin F J rated at 41/2 tons FV 13701, this vehicle lost out to the Bedford M series but a very small number were used most likely some of the submitted prototypes
