  1. Hi Matt and Pip,

Don't know if you are aware but I'm sure there is a Hastings Mil veh club,............well they were at w&p last year.

There are a few forum dwellers from sussex, so welcome.

Give us a shout if you want details of whats on locally. (steam rallys, etc)

    All the best,

    Andy

  2. In Bastogne was a Twat who thought he should portray a US General, waving like he just saved the world....BUT;

He wore a unknown jacket and on his arm a 82nd patch PLUS a overseas cappatch below it!

    It really irritated me!!!

Think this is the BIG problem,........as someone who aside from showing his vehicle, (correctly, I hope. :-)) I also am involved in Living History, where, and I'm certainly not saying I have always got it right,..........originality and profesionalism do need to be employed.

A lot of guys/gals come into this wonderful hobby, on the beack of many things, be it film, (oh gawd) book, or out of a sense of respect to past loved ones,.so a certain amount of learning needs to take part, and in most part, does quite quickly,...........unfortunatly there are always those who couldn't give a dam, which can put us all in a bad light.

  3. I've recently bought a jeep and currently doing it up as a representation of 5th Wiltshires in northern europe.

I don't belong to any reenactment group, but I'd like to dress the part when I take it to shows etc.

So now the silly question. Is it acceptable to wear British army Officer uniform to go with it or would that be frowned upon?

    Hi mate,

As others have already asked, why do you want to 'dress officer', ? is it a personal act of rememberance to someone ? (not being nosey, but at some events you WILL be asked !!)

Again as others have touched upon, which ever rank you dress for, as far as poss, get it right. (there are some good reference books out there,......and a damm good wilts living history group toboot, who I'm sure would all to happy to help in your depiction.)

As someone who does portray brit tommy, wwii, if you want any help, etc, please feel free to pm me.

    All the best,

    Andy

  4. Hi.

Could someone here tell me what color

airborne / recce jeep in Arnhem, had on their unit sign?

All written info I have read says that it is green over blue, but most reenakting jeeps is marked yellow slant on green?

    Frank

    Hi Frank,

Green over Blue ARE wartime Reconnaissance colours. and as such are right for the period you wish to depict with your jeep; (as 1st Airborne Div, it would be 1st Airborne Armoured Recce Regt.)

No idea of what the Yellow/Green marking,........except maybe's post war one being used in error ?? ( only mentioning in passing as there are a few vehicles marked up as RASC ww2 but carrying post war colours.)

    All the best,

    Andy.

( in Radeks post, pic 4 and 5, the step seems to be still in place, behind wheelarch, from what I'm led to believe, whis was normally removed,.........also, whats mounted to front grill on pic 4 ??)

  5. I was thinking to tow the cooking trailer behind the Leyland DAF, but with the comms body coming over the flatbed, this is impossible. The "towing frame" of the trailer is to short to take the turns.:-(

The series will have to take the trailer...

David, from what I seem to remember you saying re the 'box' you were going to fit onto Brdfords bed, I think you will have same problem.............could be wrong though, memories not as good as it was once.

  6. not sure if this is the right place but had a letter today from jlt online who do the re-enactor guard insurance and they are stopping it this year

does anyone else do this specific insurance as need the pli for cwp for the events this year

    and also for the cookhouse

David, as you may remember, poss recent events local to us, have highlighted the need for this type of insurance, esp if demonstrating/showing kit not perminently mounted on a vehicle,( which is NORMALLY)covered by its insurance; (although best to check.)

As BigRedOne has already said afra do cover individuals, also shooters rights, who provided the now diabanded groups insurance before.

There is another company who do cover, details are not to hand at the mo,......give me a ring next week somewhen and I'll try and dig them out.

PLI is certainly something that I'm thinking will be asked for at events more this year,......and rightly so, IMO. (certainly those I'm involved with)

    All the best,

    Andy

  7. Hi Glenn,

Re GPA in british service, like you, I can find that they were indeed used, my info gives useage by Royal Engineer Beech Groups and Royal Army Service Corps, as definates,............but I guess other units could well have 'appropriated' one from time to time.....:cool2:

Having had a look through the History of 79th armoured div, I cannot establish their useage,......but who knows.............:)

Re markings, the 7th armoured div insignia of red 'rat' on blach background would be on drivers side edge with div serial no on other side; backing of which would either be, R/E a mid/lightish blue. RASC red/green diaganolly split(right to left red top).

As to serial no's in above div, as a HQ vehicle

    R/engineers....40 (HQ arm. Div R/E)

    RASC............80 (HQ arm. RASC)

An interesting question, but I hope above is of some help.

    All the best,

    Andy

  8. So did I , although Im sure the re-enactors who frequent this site wouldnt appreciate it!

I took that posting in jest,...........I HOPE I'm correct in doing so,........as if you look at my signature,........ Why else would the good folk who own wwii era vehicles wish to publiclly show them if not in respect and rememberance to those who actually used then for real.

This also I guess is the same for those who own other era ones as well, but as thread was about W&P xmas card and wwii period reenactors. :)

Merry Xmas, and wear yer tin hat against falling raindeer droppings........:cool2:

    Andy
