  3. MOST historic vehicle policies cover you for show ground type off road cover, inc driving it into the show area, where it gets 'interesting', is what is and isn't covered, for example,........guns, when I looked into this a while ago, I was told that if they were an attached part of the vehicle,....and included in this heading was the 30/50 cal on mounts for gmc/reo, etc these were covered, as part of said insurance,...........but rifles in rifle racks, etc are not.

Mostly, PLI is taken out to cover NON vehicle mounted items,.............sandbagged gun pit/barbed wire/ kit on display, type stuff, and most PLI is third party cover, meaning if little so and so falls into display and gardians decide to sue, you've got cover...........providing you've read small print in policy and put up your 'there items may have sharp edges, and should not be handled without the owners consent', type notices.

There are different companys out there providing PLI, shooters rights, being one of them.

  4. The barn where i keep me truck has a pre war fordson that belonged to the late husband of the lady i rent the barn from...it hasn't turned a wheel in 20+ years... covered in dust (& my crap!) she keeps telling me if we can get it started we can use it for my mum to drive when doing her WLA thing... getting tempted now!

Go On,.......you know you want to,..............if just for the pleasure of driving something DECENT........:cool2::whistle: :nut:

  5. All it was is that your picture looked familiar and I think you stopped by the tent and had a chat, we were at the back of the prefab and you may have asked about my tent heater....ill get me coat!

  6. Yes the weather was much better on the Sunday, Saturday was grim. Question, where you walking round with a lady dressed as a US medic?

    Paul

Hi Paul, don't know about the medic bit but yes I was walking about with a lass in HBT's, ( I was carrying a sten and in jerkin, if that helps. :-))

    All the best,

    Andy

  7. Hi Chris, glad you've found your way here,.........if your attending Tinkers park event, come and say hi,.......I'll be the one rushing about trying to fit quart into pint pot, as mil mashal, (also landrover/commercial/and assorted other visitors.)

If you cannot make that one, festival of transport august bank, I'll be looking after, the living history section.

If your lucky, you might find the kettle on. :D

    All the best,

    Andy

  8. That K3 is badged up as the 89th Light Anti Aircraft Regt. I will be badging mine up as the 6th Battalion Duke of Wellington, Infantry Battalion of the 49th Division . It is a brown square with 68 in white. with the polar bear on the passenger side . According to my info.

That matches details I've got, to hand, Elvis; 6th Batt Duke of Wellington, were part of the junior Inf Brigade within the 49th Inf Div.

  9. I've found a photo of the ex Jersey K3, but as it is back from 35mm days. Not the best. Theses are original markings to the vehicle.

    Nice pic, Tony.

In addition to 49th insignia,Austin also carries R/artillery flash, the 47 contained within stands for Light Anti Aircraft.

Well, thats what my books tell me. :-)

  10. Some vehicles i have seen have the polar bear in a square and a circle . Also i have seen a Brengun carrier with the polar bear on the Passenger side . And a truck with it on the drivers side , Which is correct . Passenger side ,drivers side , Square or Circle. ?????

Pretty well all my info states Div markings on wheeled vehicles/and some tracked ones as on nearside, ie on passenger side, in a right hand drive vehicle.

    Sources, as follows.........

British Military Markings 1939-45 by peter hodges and michael taylor.

British Army colours and disruptive camoflage in the uk, france and NW europe. 1936-45. by Mike Starmer.

(this does also mention vehicle marking)

Next question, which arm of service are you going to portray ??

The more one looks into this subject, the more interesting :nut: it becomes...............

  11. For general info, on XXXcorps, who 49th (West Riding) Inf were part of, for normandy invasion, well worth seeking out

Club Route In Europe. the story of 30 corps in the european campaign.

My copys dated 1946,..........and printed in germany.

Also Patrick Delaforce's book, The Polar Bears, Montys Left Flank. From normandy to the relief of Holland with the 49th Div.

Are you doing K3 up in these markings,.........?

Love to see a pic when done.

    All the best,

    Andy

  12. This is a perfect example of what I meant about a year ago in the original post. Someone somewhere would book this in to an MV show, I am sure of it.

Ahh, but then if he'd provenance for it to be the way it was, ie, created for film work, etc, and had notices up saying as much, I think as a curiousity its valid. However if it's just entered as is,.......:wow::mad:

  13. Normally, the rear markings are the same as the front.

Div/ Formation marking, passenger side front wing, rear tailgate, approx 9 1/2ins high x 8 1/2 wide

    Unit/Arm of Service marking, drivers side " " , approx 8ins high x 8ins wide.

What vehicle do you have ?

    All the best,

    Andy

  14. To play devils advocate, here, :cool2:, I think, if you are lucky enough to own a vehicle of historical importance, and yes there are quite a few prototype and rare vehicles, of all periods out there, it does become your responsibility to at least try and keep that originality.............Yes, I know the argument, 'it's my vehicle, so's I'll do with it what I will',.......but to me, if an owner feels like that, they should pass it on and buy something of which there are loads about.

Certainly looking at wartime vehicles, if being retained in its wartime guise, there should be no question, (although dependent on theatre of action depicted, no two vehice could look the same.).........Obviously, if said wartime vehicle was being depicted as a post war conversion, (Bedford MW's for example, I've seen garage one's with a light recovery jib on back in place of rear bodywork,.......and also one which was used as a mobile shop in the 50's -60's. These, are important as a snapshat of the motoring history in this country, inso much the muliitude of uses of demobed vehicles in a vehicle starved country.

However, Whilst I've said the above, obviously the issue of safty crops up, and I'd certainly agree with the fitting of modern indicators, tyres (if available in size needed), etc.

    Interesting thread,

    Andy

  15. Hi all,

I have not been able to access HMVF for days (nearly a week I think), finally back in today I find no mention of major problems whatsoever.

Was this a problem on my side of the pond (Holland) only?!?!?

    Thanks,

    Hanno

Certainly no probs here, Hanno, that I'm aware of;.........welcome back.

    Andy
