  1. Probably Mid Bronze Green, that's what I painted mine, Wally or Sean will know

    Regards

    John

yes...it is very likely Mid Bronze Green

    color image always changes slightly

depending on the angle... the light is reflected.

the week earlier in bright sunlight it looked lighter than in the picture taken in cloudy weather yesterday

i took couple of pics from the engine

it looks Deep Bronze Green ... the weather was cloudy and rainy

    it looks original..not overpainted

i forgot CRC- Brackleen at home so difficult to say if it is lighter because of dirt

  3. no worries, we didn´t overheated it, because the fan belt was removed

was idling about one - two minutes

the engine looks ok but the water pump is stuck

the previous owner had drained the engine and it had not been started for at least six to ten years

the oil is clear there´s no water mixture

the carburettor and the fuel pump works ok and the distributor is clear

the K 9 is 100km from here my friend´s place

need to check the engine colour again in bright light spring sun

it appears lighter than the last time last winter when was discussion about the color

  4. original K 9 wiring harness and switches are corroded and dead

but after couple of hours work we got engine running without harness ..good news !! ,

no smoke..idling smooth 400-500 revs/min ..sounds very similar to the ferret b60 engine

but bad news ofcource ..water pump is stuck.

we removed the fan belt ...i don´t know how bad the damage is

i don´t have any manuals yet, so whether it be remedied?

  5. Nitromors paint remover test .....12 h ...no apparent damage to the water canister

I assume that the same kind of paint stripper is on sale all over the world

if it has a black plastic safety cap

so it should not cause damage to the same kind of black plastic

but be aware ...no good for acryllic plastic

    my suggestion

use Nitromors paint remover -> then neutralize water can with (hot) water -> and then hot water pressure washer ...?

    safety :

    watch out for splashing

  9. Wally. thanks ! but are you sure it is Radio repair

K9 register says it is Radio Station

it is quite possible that engine colour is MBG if it has been changed or re-con.

but i thought all re-con. engines are light blue

as it is said, (pdf-file) continuous vehicle painting was a big problem...needed a lot of manpower

    .............................

Sean. in the box there are old braided sparkplug cables and plugs

and by the way.... is it 12v or 24v ? (classified stupid question !)

fuel economy test was in the desert...no asphalt ...sand and rocks & cart path

    and

    if not have seen this

  10. Have to say, Pekka, if it was used by the Finnish Army they don't seem to have done much to it. All the fittings, markings, bits and pieces and paint appear still to be British.

Wally, reference our discussion about engine paint, does that engine look DBG or MBG to you? I can't quite decide if it's DBG (by comparison with body colour) or just old, tired, oxidised and oily MBG. Camera / screen might be throwing it off as well.

previous owner (ex-soldier)said it is ex finnish army truck..so i have to rely on him until other info is found

he bought it from 70 years old guy who originally bought it from gov. auction 1978

and the old guy said there was an other K9 too

    both were without the back

also previous owner said he met couple of army guys who remembered the truck

that´s why i sent an enquiry to war museum

so if there´s no finnish history available i will restore it to british

i have read that our troops got spare parts from the british REME

also our guys got help from their workshops in Cyprus and maybe UNEF

our troops loaned Landys , Bedford RLs and maybe Austins too and Ferrets with the british crew (Cyprus)

i found " fuel economy field test in the desert" (UNEF) for these vehicles

but it is in finnish........ page 23 of 98

there are some interesting stories.... so try to copy-paste to google-translator

i suppose K9s did not used in finland because of RHD

    -------------------------

the truck has three main layers of paint

DBG ,desert tan, white and light matt green

there are also couple of visible stickers under the latest green paint

difficult to say but i think the engine colour is original factory DBG

the truck is now about 400km from my home so the colour is from the camera

  12. All the bits are there though Pekka,

What back did it have on it and what back are you putting on it

    John

    hi John

based on the chassis number 205751 it is Radio Station

and the british army reg number is then 86 BG 97

    (i think it is not 36 BG 97 Cargo/ FFW--MK1

because the correct chassis number must be then 200751)

it has later mod bonnet , maybe the original was damaged or

British / Finnish army changet it

.... possibly to get more cool air to radiator (..if it is ex UN vehicle and was in Suez)

it is mystery truck for finnish army use because it is RHD

rumours say there were atleast two K9 in our army (maybe more?)

i have sent an enquiry to finnish war museum

i think the Radio box is "mission impossible" to source

so one desperate way is to make "original" repro cargo back...i do not know yet

so first i have to wait answers from our war museum

Bovington has AFV history cards but where are the other vehicle cards ?

i will post more pics if you like to see more rusted details

  14. It looks very similar but it is lacking the rectangular strip on the edge to attatch to the cupola side.

cushion is about 5 cm thick ... horsehair ? or something else

it looks and i think it is original

it was inside my K 9 G S truck (ex finnish army truck ?)

okay Chieftain done..will collect in January..

making an offer on land today..if accepted I will be then applying for planning permission for a 70 x 30m 21,000 square feet floor area. A Building with three floors, first floor for the real heavies, second floor for the smaller vehicles cars and things, the top floor for living accommodation, for the library...and for other non essentials.

I will use a log cabin as a separate building for a coffee shop...

it will be heated by geo thermal heating, old oil burners and log fires plus it will be covered in solar panels, the walls will be insulated with something, not entirely sure what just yet but am thinking hay bales, it will have roller shutter doors on all sides have a large covered area outside for some machines to live outside but under cover...

plus I want to get planning for a house on the land for me to live with the museum and the Animals. It already has a large barn that will be the workshop. I am going to rig that out for restoration work
