Back 100+ years ago there was clearly a much more laid-back approach to such happenings compared with what would happen now. No "send for the police", "shut down the range", "get in the health and safety wallahs", "write a new risk assessment" or "sue anyone and everyone in sight". I recall another case where a member of the host team was shot during a shoulder-to-shoulder match between two clubs. The injured man was attended to and, on the sportsman-like proposal of the visiting team, the match continued, but with one fewer member in each team!

A very different world then, and more fun.

Has anyone got a copy of a maintenance manual for a Karrier KT4 Spider

The REME museum has technical manuals.

Although the museum is currently closed, I found this information on the website:-

    Coronavirus Update

Research enquiries can still be sent to enquiries@rememmuseum.org.uk. The Research and Archives Team are able to remotely access our catalogue and some digitised material, but our response will be limited if access to any original archival material is required.

but dont know how to get into the members area of the website to access technical data.  I am not certain it has been enabled yet.

    Cheers

Is it self service only for information or is there an archivist?

  4. The figures for the amount of abandoned equipment do vary.

    About 700 tanks, 20,000 motor bikes, 45,000 cars and lorries, 880 field guns and 310 larger equipments, about 500 anti-aircraft guns, 850 anti-tank guns, 6,400 anti-tank rifles and 11,000 machine-gun.

over 2,000 pieces of artillery and 85,000 motor vehicles. Also left behind were more than 440 British tanks that had been sent to France with the BEF

  5. Looking for information on impressed vehicles I found this in 'WW2 People's War'

"When all the impressed vehicles had been checked and no more were coming in because the factories were then producing new vehicles"

Unfortunately not much information on the vehicles only:-

"things as coal lorries, furniture vans, tippers, all sorts of vehicles"

Another interesting quote from the piece:-

"There were only about four crews doing this in the whole area, two in a crew, one was an officer for signing paperwork because he was the only one who could read"

  7. Just found this (other brands are available) being recommended on another forum.

Jenolite ‘Freeze Your Nuts Off’ Freeze and Release Spray Lubricant is a fast-acting, effective freezing formula, which is brilliant at helping to release seized or rusted metal components. With an easy spray application, simply spray seized parts for 5-10 seconds to crack open seized, rusted and corroded joints in just 2 minutes

  8. I have read about classic car owners using this to protect the patina on their cars.

    Ankor C Preservative Oil

Ankor C is a solvent deposited, medium term rust preventative, for use where the treated parts are exposed to outdoor conditions. This product has a very low surface tension and viscosity, and therefore spreads rapidly, penetrating into all hard to reach parts and covering all surfaces however irregular. It dries to leave a continuous protective coating of petroleum products and additives that have rust preventative properties. The coating can be built up by further applications. This product is particularly useful where metal parts to be treated are wet, because the chemistry of Ankor C has an attraction to the metal surface and this completely displaces all traces of water before laying down the protective rust preventing film.
