  1. I plan one day to change the clutch brake to a hand operated one on the gear stick. Only because i like to be different and it needs stripping off and sorting out anyway.

If anyone thiks it would overcomplicated to drive don't worry my other hobby is playing the drums:cool2:

How ofted do you see your mate with the CS Ellis Scammell cos he had a shaft made for his and i think it might be a good idea to have one made just as a get me home spare. How much was it?

i was thinking of a little brake lever on the gearstick aswell. i think if u could mount a disc brake and caliper on there quite easily or even a little air ram on the standard meadows brake .

i see and speak to Dep on a regular basis. He took me out off roading in Avon Dasset quarry the week and tried to kill me . will ask about his prop but he has been on about haveing a smaller one made as he thinks its a bit too heavy to have on there . i know where i can get a prop made just need some measurements before i get one made ,

dep is working on explorer number two at the moment .

  2. i found some more info on my engine from cummins QUICKSERV website free to sign up and lets me view drawings and engine info

  3. i am told the clutch brake on an eaton gearbox is broken very easily by pushing the clutch to far down when moveing mine looks ok but have got my eye on one on evil bay ,

will look into fitting the meadows clutch gear mite take a while tho as engine has not been removed from scammell yet trying to get as much done on cummins with out getting too many meadows bits floating around the place .

  4. I like what Jim Clark has done to his Mack clutch, maybe possible to use the original Scammell/Meadows clutch mechanism and housing and that way, still need custom shaft though, wadaya reckon?

See how tight it is in the front of that sump? Not easy..

could u enlighten me on the mack clutch please bernard ?

to fit the meadows clutch would i need to modifie the flyweel ? or are u thinking of just useing the scammell bell houseing ? the clutch is a pull off type the same as yours i think bernard .

i think i can make the eaton bell houseing work with the front face of the gearbox but the only thing that worries me is the lengh that the scmmell prop flage will be sticking out the back of it all :embarrassed:

i have all the clutch brake bits in the back of bell houseing so thats a gd start but i was thinking of fitting a disk brake of the rear of a moterbike round the prop flange and makeing a brake that way wot u do reckon ?

  5. and meanwhile back in the batcave

we now have turbo off sump off and gearbox in half :cool2:

now i have the clutch shaft out of the gearbox i think i will go down the path of having a new cltuch shaft made to take the original scammell flange on the end of it . thougts and ideas on this would be welcomed :-)

sump is off and me and oldgun have a few ideas on how to make this work at the mo . we are goin to go really high tec with this or really low tec

but mainly we have only dismanteld a few more bits, need to get some gaskets and some other parts before really getting creative :cool2:

  6. Looking at that engine Nick, looks like it is an internally damped type. i would have thought that a pulley on the fan drive shaft would drive a fan using a support like mine.

sory to be dumb wot dose internally damped mean i am a little lost on this ?

  7. i will have a look and see wot i can do with the sump mite see if i can use some hydralic fittings to let the oil pick up to run externaly

now working on dismantaling gearbox planinng on useing whole front face of gear box will know more of what i am doing when i have all the bits lay on the bech infront of me .

fan problem is sorted i think just need to locate the rite mount and a pully for to fit where the fan is now .

few questions on electrics and pipes how dous one get engine temp and oil pressure to work ? and there are 2 small pipes one from the oil filter and the other from the mainifold i dont know where they go becuse the where detached while being cut up

    nick

  8. had a look for the jake brake today rob but nothing :embarrassed: all i have is a switch took the rocker cover off and nothing there bit miffed to say the least . i did think about electric fans but i would like to get a belt fan on there if i could and keep the orginal cowling so i can make the cummins look like its been in there from new :D

  9. well at the momment i will say i THINK i have a jake brake there was a swtich in the cab with the usual jacobs badge and high and low but i am yet to actualy find any evidence on the engine itsself i will now feel like a prize prat if it hasent .

also have a slight problem with fan mountings ( dont blame me oldgun went and checked it out not me ) now looking for the rite bits from another cummins engine to rectify this problem all the bits SHOULD be interchageable :shake:

  10. Moon and stars Nick, soon have em lined up..:D

moon and stars comeing into alighnment once more bernard, will make a proper press realise tomorow once i have the lump back home

and sorry i had to go one better than an exhaust brake :cool2:

  11. That engine has the type of front mount you need, and the vertical mounting faces cast on the clutch housing are good (some are sloping) , but the fixed fan mount is a problem, the belt driven one is easily moved up to suit the rad cowl.

i am looking for the same fan mounts and engine mounts as yours bernard cant the front mount be changed ? i am sending oldgun out to check out the atkinson tomorow as i am stuck in scotland till sataday

  12. Hows about a nice gardener 6LW, Nice and steady:sleep:, economical:flowers:, reliable:saluting:. You could leave it ticking over while we all sit round it drinking tea with digestives.:D

well the only problem with that rob is that i am really not one for digestives i am more of a jammy dogger / custard cream kinda guy i need a little extra in my biscuit and i spose that goes for my engines too .:cool2:

any way i got fed up of tripping over gardners while looking for an l10 the other day, poxy things are everywhere

  13. Hi Nick.

This is the same tool that is used on the Leyland T45 290bhp and scammell S24 350 big Cam,and 400 NTE cummins engines. If you need any info give me a shout as i have some info on it from one of my Big Cam engine manuals. just PM me your home email and i'll fire it over to you. the only thing that looks like is missing in that kit is the angled adaptor for the dial gauge but i'm sure i have a spare in my kit in the van.

The cummins Number for the kit on ebay is 3375842 if you are going to buy it check with Cummins at wellingbourgh that this is the correct kit for the engine as there are 5 or 6 different ones with different attachments in the kit.

    Hope this helps

    Clive

thanks for the info clive just trying to understand how u uprate an L10 the job its self is problerly best left to some one with a bit more understanding than me :D
