2. sorry but thats not true, if you export it ie sell it knowing that it is going abroad and there is a licence needed you the owner are still liable to prosecution...you are exporting arms...you do not have a licence then expect porridge for a few years...

Withams sell the 432's to uk users only, they were run over the coals for not making it a condition of sale theat they would not be exported...the 432 is a current vehicle and whilst I would be suprised in the 432 does need a licence other than a proper export licence, from the CBI in london, if it does you must get the licence not him...

Ive already half arranged someone so sort the correct export license so my side is sqeaky clean ,if it needs to be demilled etc in france that will be down to him.

i know theres plenty of 432s knocking about in europe in private ownership so it must be sortable.

  3. Hi Justin,

    I see you are new to the forum, so may not have seen this link from around 8 years ago;

    http://hmvf.co.uk/forumvb/archive/index.php/t-975.html

I think the French government backed down on banning ownership of jeeps and trucks, but as far as I am aware, armour especially post-war manufactured is still a sticky problem. Investigate it well before proceeding.

Hi richard ,apparently there're allowed armour if its demilitarised but he's an rfd so he's apparently exempt .i'm with Robin on this though ,it's basically his problem ,in the nicest possible way .

    cheers justin

  4. Justin,

I am well known for being blunt and not holding back.

You are the seller, the terms should be:- "as is where is, no warranty expressed or implied"

You should not be jumping through hoops to export it, it is not your forte.

There are others who do this for a living, let them do what they are good at. I would be happy to suggest a name if needs be.

The purchaser should be doing his own homework and that is his problem.

I agree with others that you want to know what you are doing.

    Robin

Agreed robin ,its not something i'll be attempting

  6. I had a very nice chap from france visit today and he's very interested in buying my 432 ,i've left all the transport twoddle to him ,but do we need an export license? its very old technology and i couldn't see anything of relevance on the proper list ,he's pretty sure he's exempt from demilitarisation as he's registered ,

has anyone got experience of such things .

  7. From the pictures I thought it was not even worth bothering going this time, made 2 chancer bids, one on the Detroit V8 which I had seen on a previous visit and the other on one of the Rapier ? winches, I got neither.

Should anybody want a brand new pair of Hollarbones (thats how it is spelt on manufacturers label) I have a set for sale at £250, not the best picture but I think you get the idea.

  8. I once did similar with a 432. I put a full jug of oil next to the drivers hatch, jumped up and over from the commanders hatch to get into the drivers position, and promptly sat on the jug dispersing its contents into the engine bay.

    bet you didn't swear;)

  9. I think it's just armoured vehicle technology!

This is the engine bay in my Scimitar, base overhauled in 2008 and scrapped in 2011. No idea how they managed to spill so much oil in there!

    Chris

perhaps they had to do it blindfold:D

  10. It doesn't matter how clean you get the engine and gearbox bay when you restore it, it will be filthy almost straight away once you start using it!

And I thought 70s technology was better than 60s LOL

surely the cvrts don't have labyrinth oil seals!?

  11. That quarry mud sticks like the proverbial to a blanket doesn't it..?

Looks like you made a good job of the old girl though!

the Quarry mud came off ok it was the ancient black sludge under the floor that took some shifting ,she does look

    good though now .

hows your cvrt project going ?

  12. Justin

Your first job should be to whip the front decks off and give it a reet good old jetwash... Then post a load of pics on a restoration thread so we can see what you've got... And the good bit is none of that will cost you a penny!

    Cheers

    Timbo

Yes I think that will be the plan ,i might even go and hire a steam cleaner and really go for it ,i'm hoping its not as bad as the 432 ,that was seriously minging .

  13. Hi Justin,

It looks like the restoration race will be on this year - I will wait till yours arrives before I pull the sheet off mine and get building!

    Your'e on!

you have got a head start!!

if you want a hand with the paint job i'm not bad with a spraygun ,

    cheers justin

  14. I am a bit confused as to what you have purchased.

I read the advert and did not in my pea brain understand that this was a Sabre more like a Sabre turret and another variant chassis, a bit of a cobbled together affair.

Please pardin my comment but from the distance I am at it was hard to gain any other view.

Is it really a genuine Sabre?

    R

AS far as i'm aware and i'm no expert on cvrts ,the scorpion and scimitar share the same hull and turret, when the scorpion was removed from service the fox turret was added to create the sabre ,so logically if you add a fox turret to a scorpion or scimitar you get a sabre .

however if its going to upset anyone i'll devise a new name for it such as large metal thingy with turny roundy thing on top:-D

  15. helston gun smiths have got one but they want 8000 plus vat for it :-(

there's plenty to go at for the moment so i'm not too stressed , i may even stick a scorpion turret on or something like that .or fabricate one like a chap on the 432 forum .

    justin

  16. Its an ex belgian hull ,the turret shown is being swapped for a sabre turret ,a bit of a mess but i like a challenge ,the only major bit missing is the mantlet if anyone knows of one ,i should be able to make up a dummy rarden
