  1. I need one with a 37' long cable with the green fabric cover. 37' is 11.2M, how long is yours?

I had a quick look today , is about the lenght you mentioned , but only the clamp is very wide , looks like it fits around the 8 " gun barrel

  2. Amazing it sure is , just covered up by some grass and earth , about 1 inch deep

It's hard to believe these things are still to be discovered , as there are quite some places around here where heavy action took place

I'll post my question on the Maple Leaf Up forum as well

  3. Prospecting a former battlefield in our neighborhood , we found some remains of the fighting that took place in september '44

some rounds .303 and 9 mm , 2" mortar tails , remains of a German gas mask , and one insign , that looks like 2 Canadian leaves . All of it having been discovered on a steep river bank , where acces isn't very easy , I assume it must have been lost at combat activities, some pictures to identifie; no markings were found on this object

  4. Some nice parts could be brought home from Ghent militaria fair , all of them 25 Pr related , such as ;

-unfired HE round , original condition with fuze (empty)

-one nice cartridge , 1942 stamps

-several charge bags , different sizes and colours

-training device charges ( leather bags with weight indications-different colours)

besides that I also found a nice metal box , Canadian marked , 1945 , for 20 mm Hispano rounds, packed in carton tubes, original paint and markings, happy ending for the week end :)

  6. Hey, thanks for the pics 25 pounder, does your gun have a muzzle brake fitted ? and a riveted cradle ?

You will notice on your plate that it has 'Weir' written in full, these plates were altered in 1941 to just the initials as not to give away the companies full name and location to prevent from German Bombing !

    Rob..................rnixartillery.

Hi Rob , affirmative for the muzzle brake , but no riveted cradle , all of the recuperators have been machined in one solid piece of cast steel.Mike (Peacock -The Garison) told me this is a rare type of cradle , as most of what we've seen through the years are riveted ones.

I think the date on the gun barrel says 1942, will check that out tomorrow.

Thanks so far for this (valuable) information.:-)

  7. You are all Quite right with your comments but heading down the wrong pipeline.

25 pounder, could you post the date and reg no stamped on the carriage plate on your Gun,it may start with the letters CA.

Gordon, you are correct.Weirs did not produce the Ordnance but manufactured carriages, recuperators and other componants.

    Rob..............................rnixartillery.

the date on the carriage plate says 1940

    reg n° says 2485
