  1. Thanks for the reply, this is something I have looked into doing, putting in a smaller tank replacing the fuel pump to a modern equivalent but have decided against it, as much as the fuel quantity is large, the farm where I keep my vehicle does fully intend to use it as a working vehicle to help them out, which also makes my rent cheaper!

But for the sakes of my limited fabrication skills etc I decided to follow down this route and just trying to future proof myself until the time comes to fully sort out my fuel tank and replace with a newer alternative.

Ive got full new filters and lines going in to ensure that the new supply of diesel is at the best it can be!

  2. Hey all,

I am looking around online at different fuel tank repair options, forgive me if this is in the wrong area Ill happily move it but thought as it is generic I would post in this area.

I am currently repairing my fuel tank due to damage in my 434, and maybe I am being overly paranoid but because I never ever ever want to take this thing back out I want to make sure when it goes back that it has as much work done to it now so it can live in there quite happily.

I have come across this thing called fuel tank "Re-Nu". (https://www.fueltanks.co.uk/) It advertises on there they have done classic vehicles, to sherman fuel tanks, DAF drops and jeeps. I am just wondering has anyone come across this before or had it done to their fuel tanks?

What are you experiences? Would you recommend it?

    Let me know, thank you.

    Seb

  3. Morning all,

Sorry for the delays with this, life etc. So I have finally got my two documents back that I would prefer from the MOD release. This took a long time for the documents to appear which I would assume through COVID and holidays. Sadly they proved little to no difference in the plan but it doesn't hurt to get them to make sure. Both documents fully photographed to make sure I got all the details which has in depth information about the failures etc. If I have time I will write it all up into a word document if anyone is actually interested.

The final drawings are back now and I have made some measurement alterations. I also need to finish discussing the tensile strength of the replacement bolt.

If you are still interested in the project can you please email fv430trackpads@outlook.com and this will be a pseudo official channel for myself to record and for yourselves as a method of communication. Could you please include your name, contact number and quantity of pads you would like.

I will leave this open for a month. After this I will speak to the company to gain the prices off this level of manufacture, communicate back out to you all through email and we can then decide to proceed or not.

Hope to hear from you all soon.

Will the backing plates be totally flat steel or curled up at the edges like the original plates?

Backing plate curved as per original bud.

They have been designed off the old pad to be a 1:1 replacement part. The only thing that will be different is the thread moved to metric as this will lower the cost of the production. Each pad comes with all fittings as well which is useful.

Please see snippet of one of the drawing which shows the backing plate.

    Thanks

  5. Hello all,

Just to keep this all updated and show this isnt a pipe dream! Got a final set of drawings back from the factory. I am now in the process of working out how to bill anyone who is interested in the pads so that we can get the process made and get the final price per pad nailed down.

As mentioned at the start I am not in this to make any money at all and just want to help everyone out if possible! Getting a new supply of pads would be a great benefit I feel to the community.

If you know anyone who wants to join in on the order now is the time. As once I have committed to the mould that is when we agree the pricing and get them ordered. Looking like the cut off if work is kind to me will be January/Feb and delivered a couple weeks later.

Thanks for your patience just doing this all in my spare time amongst other things is slowly taking its toll!

    Thanks
    Seb

  6. Hey mate all is quiet at the moment, this will be something that is happening next year, the pad has been sent with my CAD files across to the factory. Triple checking everything before I commit to paying for the mould. Once I get the go ahead I will be then working out a complete and open way of invoicing and sourcing finalised pricing and quantities for all of those who are interested and then its generating the invoices!

Hope this helps. I was hoping to hear back from them in the 2nd week of December so I should have a good plan ahead of the new year.
It also allows me to get a test pad onto a vehicle as well which will then be good to see if its right!

    Thanks
    Seb

  7. Good evening all, sorry to be late reply.

Firstly in reply to you diesel1 this would not be a problem to sort out your VAT Claim. Please drop me a message if you could with what you would like.

I d be intrested in 180 pads, would vat be in the cost because I'd be able to claim this back.

    Regards Andrew

Terry I have reached out and spoken to this gentleman from Australia who has assisted me with this. We have been talking about manufacturing costs and shipping with taxes makes it just as expensive as buying the NOS pads that you can currently buy from online auction sites and other vendors. It was because of this I decided that I would do something in the UK as its almost a 50% saving than bringing those in from Australia.

As per cook defence I have contacted them and they were not able to assist in this venture.

depends how many you buy and how you want them shipped

get a price on say 3 or 4 sets-i'm sure there will be plenty of takers over here

air mail may be a tad pricey though!

And for anyone else who is interested please see the below for what I have been up to. In the realms of measure twice and cut once and to check the integrity of the drawing I produced I decided to cut open a take off and check the steel plate. I used my drawings to laser cut out two templates. To check the dimensioning. I have recently acquired several NOS pads and therefore went through them to check the sizing and making it a perfect fit.

With this stage I have now submitted the drawings and a NOS pad to the factory for detailed moulding and this should give me "nailed" down product and moulding costings. I will keep you all updated as I go. But again if you are interested in this please get in touch.

    Thanks all

  8. Figured I would see if any of this of any use to you before listing elsewhere.
I have 2 CET Swing arms NOS from withams and are no longer of any use to me. £100 for both.
4 x CET Hydraulic tanks with fittings. They have dip sticks, filler caps and fittings. £100 for all four.
I also have some props I made for a railway wartime weekend and are replica 88mm Shells. Please see the photos. They are made of steel and with being props for throwing about are not perfect but are a bit different. They are fairly heavy so I would prefer to deliver them. Got 8 of them. With the moulding and fabrication they cost a fair amount to make but would be happy with £125 happy to take offers for more than one as I really need to make space for the next project. I will drop them off as long as youre within a respectable distance of the NW. (Cheshire)
Also have a fairly pitted Kwk 43 L71 round if anyone could be interested.
    Thanks

I have a chap in South Dakota who purchased an Abbot from me who asked for a set a month or so ago. So.......

    Bob

No problem you have my email so if you find out message me through there if you would like. I should have answers by this week!

  10. Hey all, just as a bit of a post to gauge interest. I am currently weighing up the options of manufacturing new pads subject to testing them on a vehicle.

I have made the drawing in CAD and approached several companies. But before I take this idea any further who would actually be interested in this venture? This is purely so I can go to the company with numbers as to how many I would like to make. The more we get the cheaper it gets.

Currently I haven't made the final calculations but the prices seem to be between about the £11-15 a pad mark. Maybe if there's more it will be even cheaper.

Just show your support on here and if there is enough I will take this further.

Just to clarify this will be done at cost. Its just so we can keep them going on the roads longer and I am not going to be making any money

If you are interested please tell me how many you would want and then I can sit down and actually work out some estimates for how much this would cost. The more of us that want to do it the cheaper it gets. I can only work out the costs if someone tells me they are interested in numbers. Not "if the price is right" because I cant tell the manufacture a rough amount.

So please tell me your thoughts and guesses and in a week or two I can do the actual maths for us all.

    Thanks

there is/was a company in Holland that were selling loads of 432/434 s the name escapes me but it had a connection with heavy plant not cheap or reasonable  as I remember

Sindorf is the name of the ones in Holland. Want to see what is in the UK first, Sindorf vehicles basically become a nice benchmark for what I can get with my budget :)

  12. Wanted FV434 and any associated spares.

Finally decided this is the vehicle I would like. Please let me know if you have one for sale in the next coming weeks/months and get in touch. I could also be interested in any spare parts you may have lying around.

I am currently based in the NW in Cheshire. I can travel to visit/view.

    Running vehicle is a must.

    Thank you.

  13. Hello wider audience of HMVF. This is a long shot. I would love to be able to track down the first military vehicle I purchased in this great hobby. Its a FV434 and for the life of me I cannot remember the service number. However I do remember its plate like yesterday:

    PNT891G

Are you the new owner? Have you since owned it? Would love to be able to see where or how or what she is up to at this time!

Thanks ever so much for any info you may have! I have attached a photo of the day it got delivered to the farm!

    Thanks,

    Seb!

  14. I remember a long time ago there was talk of issues registering FV430 vehicles.

I have tried to scroll through some of the pages on here to find definitive answers apart from speculation. I remember it being something about the width, brakes and construction methods?

So the simple question is now, can you road register a FV430 or is it just not worth bothering. Weighing up the options between RR and non RR. But also deciding how much you would actually take these vehicles on the road.

    Cheers for any advice.

  15. Hope everyone is well in these trying times and its been a while since I have been on here and apologies if this is duplicate thread I did search it and could not see anything.

Wondering what is the general view of building replica vehicles that are either totally wiped off the surface or existing only on paper now.
Would there be the support of persons like there is the many restoration groups and collectives? What would your opinion be if you saw this vehicle at a show? Would you donate to the construction of such a vehicle?

With many hours on my hands through all these lockdowns like all of us I would assume been mulling over all the potential projects I could get involved with, and one that has been on and off my mind for at least a few years is the creation of a replica vehicle that is seldom seen, with the sole purpose of being used and enjoyed at shows for re enactment etc.

I am guessing just scoping out the opinions of the wider community and your thoughts.

The limits of the vehicle could be that it would be as close as possible to the original however using modern powertrain and creation of all new parts, as not to use existing parts, the focus on purely being the end product to be used and enjoyed for the community.

Let me know. I look forward to hearing the responses.

    Stay safe all!
