  1. yes, Standard need a engine for the vanguard cars series, so the modified the Ferguson engine that they allready had in production. They then again need a engine when they where making the plans for the TR2. therefore they took the vanguard engine, made smaller so that it could race in Le mans i the class under 2liters. hence racing Ferguson.... :) so its essentially the same engine, this just has 90hp

  2. A number of M578 have been sold in Denmark now, and i think a couple have been exported.

its a nice bit of kit to have when your working on tanks and the big stuff. But they are not very good at pulling things due to the light weight.

We had an accident at a show in denmark, where a Abbot skidet in to overgrown ditch and flip over, they tried to pull it, on to its tracks and up with a M578, but tracks on the m578 just spun. then they tried a Centurion with a better result.

  3. not to derail this thread, but yes the Humber project is coming alonge nicely, most of the parts have been blasted ore needlegun and painted, and the rebuild of the frame will begin soon. I havnt got any recent pictures, as I have been VERY busy with my bachelor project at uni, but I am handing that in next week, so will finaly have time again to work on the vehicles and take pictures.

  5. The reason that they fail is somthing call selective corrosion, where the zink in the brass are is dissolved selectively, due to the fact that copper and zink corrode at a different rate. it also call dealloying and in the case with brass dezincification.

its also commenly seen in grey cast iron, just called graphitic corrosion. here the Iron corrode and leavs the carbon. the object keeps its shape but its mechanical properties ( strenght, mass) is severly reduced.

  6. Niels, that is the best 'weathered' vehicle I have ever seen, the Bov Tiger I was good before the restoration but that PzIII is a cracker, looks like it was driven into a wearhouse in 45 and wheeled out for the photo 40-50 years later!

Well that is because it was driven into a wearhouse in 45, and the 40 years after wheeled out, sadly they have repainted it now, and hidden it. Sorry they are not willing to give any infomation about it, But one of my friends worked on it for a short while when they got it driving agian.

The arms museum is not interessed in vehicles and preserving them. they also had a running sd.kfz 251 that they left outside, wich resulted in crack engine block

  7. Hi

My view on originality is that, I like it when people try to keep there as original as possible. but I like it when people present there vehicles with the kit that where used with it at a specific period. But this dosnt mean that all the vehicles schould be painted in US ore UK colors I really would like to se more vehicles done up like fx Norwegian ore French, as most of them has had many differnt users after the war.

I am keeping my Bedford Scammell and Thornycroft in danish markings and mods., to preserve them as part of the Danish army history.

I do not like home made modifications. like these fx.

As for changing engine, well it often a part of what gives the vehicles "soul", my Champ normaly attracts a lot of people, at shows, when I open the bonnet, because they want to see and hear the engine, (I know Champs are not rare in Uk, but still its a fairly odd engine for what people see as an other type of jeep).

I respect that some times its not possible to keep the original engine due to huge fuel consumption which would result in the vehicle never been driven ore displayed.
