Looks spot on, I hope everything works out there as I understand a lot is changing at the museum and you get some good use after all the work.

yes steve ive been diverted away from farm machines to my other interest (ww2 raf related things)i do alot of contract hedge trimming on various farms so knew of the trailers in question which were heading for the gas torch so thought id better act &save them as one at a farm where i was a student in 87 was recently burnt n scrapped therefore making me act on these.Im based near northallerton north yorks.:-)
I'm quite lucky in the aircraft collection I volunteer in we have a few tractors and agricultural implements so I can get my farm fix. I restored a 1919 Austin for them about 10 years ago and have helped out on the other restorations on the living van, traction engine and currently chaff cutter. A local farmer friend has a good farm collection and is regularly up your way looking in hedges for what's left behind, good luck with the toys

Sadly I start to lose interest once everything was built completely of metal and they stopped using avgas on aircraft so this was right up my street as I volunteer on aircraft of this period. The Ryan PT22 is a lovely aircraft to fly in with it's 'happy' 5 cylinder radial popping away up front.

Sean good work, I couldn't believe anyone tried them all I agree with you except:
12 Curtis Jenny
42 the yellow thing is a Ryan PT22, the same type as Harrison Ford force landed
43 Sikorsky R4
44 Kellett XO-60 last real attempt at a usable military autogyro
48 Grunau Baby, nice little glider saw one last year
49 Curtis Jenny
50 Macchi MC202
65 Voisin VIII
Maybe between us all we can do the full set?

Very interesting Tony, do you know which shop he used out of interest? I've spoken to Mr Rivers and the standard size for the Journal should be 2.0615" so will be measuring up after work to see how bad/ what I have?
Cheers

Ps apparently new cranks are available at £900 odd so there's my benchmark to aim for.....

Welcome in, good luck with your projects and then you'll need something to tow them and then you'll need to have a set piece to display them in, and then.....:nut:
It's how the bug bites
Where abouts are you based?

Really interesting, doesn't look cheap but if you don't ask..... I think I'm going to be busy on the phone this week.

#1 Water pump end, but I think we'll pull the water tube as well while the engine is out, really wish this had reared it's head at the end of the season not the start. It looks impossible to pull the crank in the truck so the engine will have to come out? Who can weld metal back onto the crank?

Thanks for the replies, I've got the TMs - I found them online and have nice A4 sized books to work from, I guess a series of expensive phone calls is coming up tomorrow then to see availability of parts as I think I'll be looking at loosing 0.040" at least to get close to a circular radius on the journal. It's a shame as the rest of the journals are fine and the bores are perfect.

Really interesting, thanks for that

Hi my crankshaft on the WC54 has got a very ovalled #1 journal after an incorrect bearing shell was fitted at some point in the last 60+ years, does anyone know the original size for the journals so I can see if I can get it machined or if it's beyond help. Alternatively has anyone got a good crankshaft available?
The #1 bearing shell was quite a lot broader than the others with a pronounced lip, I guess this was incorrect as the manuals don't talk about any differences in the set?
Cheers

Hello everyone I've been asked to put a request on here for WW2 era Military vehicles to display at the season opening airshow for the Shuttleworth Collection near Biggleswade in Bedfordshire, the deal I've managed to get agreed is for free entry to the airshow for every one in a pre-booked military vehicle (yes passengers included, but as it is a charity please try not to turn up with people hanging out of the rear bodies) More information about the airshow can be found here http://www.shuttleworth.org/events/premiere/ , all that is needed is to email kathryn.hale@shuttleworth for more info or to book in and if possible attach a picture of the vehicle you want to bring. Or drop me a PM for more information as well, I'm one of the volunteers on the aircraft and vehicles and we are trying to get a bigger presence of ground based attactions at the shows and I'll try to see if any possible to set up any photo opportunities as well.
Cheers and hope to see/hear from some of you soon.

Hello just a quick reminder about the Shuttleworth collection's engineering open days this weekend if you fancy having a look at the ongoing restorations of the Collection's Spitfire, Sopwith Triplane and the nearly completed Sopwith Camel replica. Also on show will be a few military vehicles and some of the vehicle section's restorations including the 1903 de Detrich.
Admission is only £12 per adult with children under 16 free, the newly refurbished Swiss Gardens will also be open for those who aren't as interested in the oily bits, hope to see some of you there.

Well I had a chance to do some measuring and journals 2-6 are 2.053" roughly unfortunately is ovalled ranging from 2.046-2.018" and the scores are deep  so either get the crank built up or replacement is on the cards just got to cost things up. Here are some pics of the bad shells
