  1. Thanks Baz, nothing much got past Bart, the pickup was used as a shooting brake on an estate, but someone suggested it may have a military past, and it does look a bit like a Tilley.

    Not mine by the way.

  2. Another change I just came across is that if you post a new topic or reply and then immediately correct a typo or gramma it shows as being edited immediately, instead of there being a delay before the 'edited tag appears at the bottom of the post.

Annoying as there used to be a period of 'grace' built in.

  3. Since the Historic tax MOT exempt thing first came about we all knew that a Series One LR body on a shortened RR chassis, a monster V8, Unimog portal axles not needing an MOT and getting free tax was not playing the game, unfair and just wrong. Even if some of us took advantage!

Seems to me that what's being done here is to enforce the regulations that have been in place for many years but largely ignored by most vehicle tinkerers/modifiers, and to clear up the definition of a Vehicle of Historic Interest to reflect the original lawmakers intentions.

A vehicle has to be completely stock (14 points), stay within the 8 point rule, or if modified outside that or home built go for a BIVA test.

The important difference is that it will be up the the vehicle keeper to declare modifications when taxing or face tax fraud charges and all that entails.

The 8 point rule still allows plenty of room for changing things if you feel you need to, but the 15% power to weight increase seems to be completely unexpected and a hard thing to comply with as we know large numbers have engine conversions that are in themselves a part of the vehicles ancient history.

There is still time to lobby and let them know your angle, as they do seem to have taken peoples views into consideration, and presumably will still do so.

Or run for the hills! :shake:

  4. Not all of this is set in stone yet, there is an email address in there for anyone to voice their opinion before it's too late.

The suggestions made by those who filled in the questionnaire have clearly influenced some of the decisions made, but

as only 2000 people out of probably 20,000 affected people bothered to fill in the questionnaire, I doubt many will bother to email in their concerns either.

The 15% idea is particularly ridiculous with regard to historic HGVs, heavy locomotives have never had to be tested even before the pre 60 exemption came about.

What about the Scammell 100 tonner? it had a huge increase in power a couple of years after it was made.

  5. If they do adopt the 8-point system, an engine change is only one point lost. As far as I understand it, that means no change to the vehicle's test-exempt status.

That is if they use the 8-point system.

In a more general sense I don't understand why 'they' think modified vehicles of a certain age should be subjected to testing and yet not un-modified ones? If anything, one might suggest that someone who owns a modified vehicle may have a more than usual interest in its engineering and thus may well be maintaining it to a better level than someone who has simply bought something and runs it with little interest in what goes on underneath.

Engine changes will be allowed under 8 points, unless the power to weight ratio increases by more that 15%..

Public Place A location is a public place if people gain access to it in their capacity as members of the public rather than as a person with some form of permission to enter.

Multi storey car parks, hospital car parks and pub car parks during licensing hours have been held to be public places. A pub car park may only be a public place after licensing hours if the public, in fact, do use the car park at that time.

Seems clear to me if someone pays to enter a place they are no longer public.

If your vehicle is SORNED but insured on a historic vehicle policy with show cover, but with not MOT (if needed), then you're good to trailer it to an event that people pay to enter.

Where it gets a bit dodgy is taking your SORNED vehicle to a free to enter show, like a small fund raiser or the likes of Eastbourne's Magnificent Motors.

Thought that was a bit too easy, then I found this:

[h=3]Extension of definition of “public place” in Public Order Act 1936.[/h]For the definition of “public place” in section 9(1) of the M1 Public Order Act 1936 there shall be substituted—“Public place” includes any highway and any other premises or place to which at the material time the public have or are permitted to have

access, whether on payment or otherwise ”.

  8. Strange how the tractor they are pulling him out of seems to be standing on a perforated metal plate which does not appear on the earlier shots and the rear tyres have a much closer cleat pattern than before. Also no sign of heavy bleeding unless they are pulling him out a day later. Good latex mask??

Watch the clip in full screen and pause 4 seconds from the end.

Not saying it's not a worthwhile stark warning but it doesn't look quite right does it, lots of faked up stuff on tinternet...just for clicks..

  9. Did the show have any redeeming features?

Yes it jolly well did, it wasn't at Folkestone for a start, plenty of winge free people had a whole lot of fun, tracked stuff drove around in the evening, there was a tank drag race, the Jive Aces played a lot, there was no helicopter, Spitfires appeared at random times presumably just passing by and some brave bloke took on all the problems of putting a show on and put his money where his mouth is. Good enough for me!

  10. Americas field was actually called 'plastic camping' by the organisers, it was printed somewhere but I can't remember where I saw it.

I did attempt to cammo my Camper but the wet and windy weather resulted in the wind out awning collapsing under the weight of water and wet cammo net. Woke up to badly torn fabric and supports ripped out of the front frame extrusion, but I tried.

Despite that very costly exercise I had a great eight days there, nice to be back, and the best thing was.....

    NO HELICOPTER:banana::goodidea::banana:

  11. Photobucket have introduced a policy of holding users to ransom, 400 dollars to get your pictures back on line, ruined hundreds of forums around the world apparently. I stopped using photo bucket years ago it's always been a pain to use in my opinion.
