Hi all
have you seen the latest edition of classic military vehicle !!! there's an article on pages 51-57 entitled "MUNGA FOR THE MASSES" (all good for raising the profile of our favourite little runabout!!!)
oh and you may notice the modern Munga pics are of a certain F91/8 reg No EOL 890 C taken a year ago at W&PR 2014!!!
so here's some more... from this year!! only four Mungas in total in abundance at this years show... that I saw anyway .. including one dead one for resto!!!..and my own!!!!
A wiring fault on the way home (just 10 miles away too!!) caused the starter ballast circuit to operate all the time on 24V instead of 12V and burnt out all three sets of points!!! apart from that she behaved faultlessly and handled everything good old RAF Westerhanger could chuck at us (another storm on que on the Friday!!) just like last year!! turning the "dust bowl" in to a fun quagmire once again)!!!!
looking forward to next year already!!!!!

Hi Ruston ... If you have the early gearbox the high low range lever on top the gearbox can get wedged with debris... Remove the gearleaver plate in the floor to gain access to see if that's the case.... Fingers crossed!!!

Hi Thelma
Hello to you!!!! and welcome in!!! looking forward to seeing some pics of your new "TOY"
-
Thanks guys
Trevor, yes Quite a task but I like a challenge!!! , Ullrich, PM sent
also clutch pressure plate looking very tired, and I think ive had the full use of clutch release bearing!!! see pic showing its "teeth"!!!and the splines on the friction plate were seized to the first motion shaft (amazed that it was working at all!!) the plate has loads of meat left.... but the inner segment is parting company with the rest so replacement needed(see close up)!!

Hi all !!!
took the ole girl out for a last run to a local militaria show before stripping the engine and changing the clutch!!
but on the way home she developed a misfire...
a check at the road side found rearmost plug had worked loose (loss of compression causing the misfire I thought... so tightened it up... and gave it a go BANG!!!! plug shot out of the head and hit the bonnet!! taking what was left of the head plug thread's (stripped thread's when I first got it!!) and shrapnel in the plug gave the game away to more serious damage (suspected thrown ring!!)
so I spent a pleasant afternoon in the sun waiting for the recovery truck (luckily I had just taken out a new insurance policy with breakdown cover just a month ago!!)
anyway this is the aftermath!!!
so ..... anyone got any good spare two stroke engines (or parts to repair!!) head, pistons...the bore's seem unscored so would hopefully take a re-bore !!??
also any ideas on where to source the main crank/ big end bearings as these were the original reason for the imminent strip down!!!
(I have an engineer friend with the press tools to strip the crank!!)
please PM me
thanks!!

Hi
yes it looks very much to be a PASGAT type cover, it has the Velcro tabs... but with some missing and the rest are coming unstitched,
on the inside at the top it has a printed makers mark however its badly faded ... can just make out the top line "cover helmet Camouflage "

Hi all
picked this 1976 dated ERDL M1 helmet cover up at a militaria fair last weekend it has this patterned decal in black on both sides....... showing the inside as its not at all very visible on the black parts of the pattern!!! must have been fairly unclear even when fresh!!!!

Hi all
Here's an interesting old tool I picked up at a local charity shop...Its jaws measure 8" closed and 11 1/2" open, it has cast in marks either end of the main body "L" for left?? and "R" for right.. ..hand thread maybe!!??? and 1/2" stamped in the middle... the dia of the hex centre???, and has a sliding bar lever....it's painted in a kind of bronze green paint.. 50's British army??? me and my dad guess at some kind of spring compressor!!??? but what for!!???? any ideas ..

Are these going to be added to your collection?
Yes these are both helmets I didn't have already!! double luck!!!!!
The Belgian one for my M1 clone collection and the Turtle for my British 68' pattern display.
I sold off all my spares, unwanted duplicates 4 years ago, to make room for others.... like these!!

Hi all
Here's two tin lids found in a charity shop last week...
one I think is Belgian M51... 1971 dated liner (decal on liner a bit of a giveaway) with later composite type helmet cover( incorrect!!! American cover???)and chin strap looks new/replaced (also American??).
The other is a MK 4/5 British "turtle" helmet, the shell is dated 1952, liner is upgraded 1978 type suspension and sock label is 1980... with a 68' pattern DPM smock hood as cover, net and scrim !!!
one of the swivels is missing and an old (original??) chinstrap is tied to the helmet net!!
Its not often I find helmets!!!.. think this makes about 4 in total over the past 10 or so years!!!
one was a wrecked Brit MK II tommy fire warden relic, the other was a Brit MK II in very good nick.. but with a later M1 type west German liner!! sold both of em at a militaria show 4 years ago!!!
comments please!!
regards
Paul

is this a weapons cover or maybe optics/ night vision spotting scope??
it measures 20"long has draw chords at either end of the bellows with a zip in between, it is insulated and has various inspection/ tripod mounting holes and "D" rings for a sling/strap maybe??? it also has attachments with poppers which fold it in half (for storage when not in use??)poppers are made by prym
any ideas!!??

More finds from toot shop land!!!
this time its a pair of 68' pattern combat trousers in unissued condition!!! (they still have loose threads everywhere!!) also loads chalk marks where the pockets etc were to be attached, and either a date completed or the seamstress name chalked on!!! so I wont be washing these then!!!!!! oh also can you tell me... is the colour bleed/change on the green print normal as my 68 patt smock is not like this???? although it is old and worn so may have lost it!!???
oh cost me £4;)
Munga talk...
in German Vehicles

Hi all
Just added, to my Munga family.. a little sister...from another mister... for my German 1965 F91/8!!
This one is an ex- Dutch army 1963 F91/4...
Its pretty complete...and solid.. and needs some work/reassembly of the new parts that came with it .....it also...has a few missing parts......namely...a Fuel tank!!...
any one got a spare for the 4 seater!!?????
even a rough holed one as a pattern???
Engine is an original two stroke three pot!! ...not running at the moment ..but has good compressions...... however.......log book has it as 800cc......the smaller engine!!.. ..but the replacement looks to have 1000cc air filter arrangement???... how would I tell if its the bigger engine???
Is it possible to tell from the engine number alone???
(see pics of engine number)
Hope to get the old girl back up and running.... in the next month.. or so!!!
