  1. That's really annoying, the assets must be owned by someone, anyone know who and how to contact them?
  2. Thanks, then I'll just keep trying to make contact with them
  3. Does anyone know if this museum - Military History Museum, 490 Newport Rd, Cowes, IOW is still in business? I'm looking for some troop seats for my Saracen and came across a photo taken in their grounds which shows a Saracen wreck, so would like to contact them re negotiating possible purchase of seats. I have tried phoning but never get an answer and have tried emailing without success. I'm just wondering if it is a very small museum that is closed outside the summer months or perhaps they are no longer there.
  4. Thanks Richard, I just wanted to ensure that they weren't the shorter variant, didn't want to be accused of 'non originality'
  5. Not sure how useful that answer is :nut: a few measurements would be helpful
  6. Can anyone tell me the correct length for the shovel, axe head and axe handle fitted to a Saracen. There are several sellers on eBay selling pioneer tools for Land Rovers and I wondered if these are appropriate for the Saracen.
  7. Yes I know it's probably sacrilege, but if anyone knows of such a vehicle I'm after a bank of troop seats
  8. Thanks all, I got quite a few goodies to bolt on so now a bit of fun after the hard work, then I have to start on the inside! It runs well, I've only done a few trips up and down the road from where I keep it to my house, but it seems to drive OK
  9. Primed a couple of weeks ago Top coated today - 8 hours of spraying and I'm knackered
  10. I've probably got this wrong, but all marks of Saracen APC would be FV603 and the Mk6 weights a ton more than a Mk2 for example so would the 11 tons refer to a Mk2 or a Mk6? One would conclude that there must be two different bridge plates either 10 & 11 or 11 & 12 or have I got this wrong ?
  11. According to Bill Munro's book the Mk6 Saracen has a laden weight of 24,724 lbs which according to Google =11.0375 tons. Would the bridge plate for that vehicle be 11 or does the army round up giving 12?
  12. First picture was taken four months ago when I bought it, subsequent two were taken today.
  13. K4000EP Semi-fluid Grease - sounds like to one for me, thanks for the tip.
  14. Was just talking to another Saracen owner and he said that in recent years he was using grease rather than oil in the suspension; reason being that the oil leaked out badly. He believes that the grease is lubricating the suspension, it is clearly used in the Ferret suspension quite satisfactorily is there a good why it can't be used in the Saracen
  15. Good advise, thanks - will check out the beast tonight
  16. Thanks for the advise, I've now found someone selling oil guns etc, ( http://www.thenippleshop.co.uk/acatalog/copy_of_Accessories.html ) I'm guessing from your description of the nipple type 'flat-type' grease/oil nipples" that none of the connectors they describe will be any good. Is this flat-type nipple a current design or is it a superseded design? Nic
  17. I need to check/fill the oil in the Saracen's suspension and have a couple of questions: what modern oil equivalent should I be using can anyone recommend a suitable oil gun, I have found oil guns for sale but am a bit concerned that the nozzle connector might not seal well, or are these things pretty universal in their fitting? thanks Nic
  18. Well, I appreciate people challenging my understanding and experience (with Kent Firearms Licensing) of the requirements for grenade launchers as it has resulted in me just finding this.... https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/200071/Annex_4_Guide_on_Firearms_Licensing_Law_2012-13_Definition_2.pdf - section 2.54 (k). Clearly this is absolutely definitive and is the reference I need. People's comments appreciated
  19. They are Section 5 under the true definition of the Firearms Act.. don't know where you get section 1 from ???? - single shot smooth bore barrel <24 inches, so section 1
  20. Sadly, my FEO (firearms enquiry officer) for Kent Police believe them to be section 1 and since they are the issuing force for my FAC (firearms certificate) I have to listen to what they say or challenge them in court - that quite clearly is not going to happen!! However if you can point me in the direction of a Home Office ruling that they are not, I would be eternally grateful
  21. First point to note is that I am aware that they are not classed as section 5, but they are technically a section 1 Firearm. I own a number of section 5 firearms held under section 7.3 Heritage firearm status. I actually used my Ferret as the initial justification for starting my heritage collection (sidearms used in British army armoured vehicles) and was required to have the grenade launchers deactivated and proofed. I clearly do not wish to compromise my 7.3 collection so need to consider how best to deactivate the grenade launchers on my Saracen.
  22. My Saracen has alloy grenade launchers. On my ferret, the tubes were steel and it was easy (for me) to drill and weld in a 10mm bar across in each one which was sufficient for the UK proof house. I don't have the capability to weld alloy and anyway it strikes me that a 10mm alloy bar would be easily removed so might not be considered sufficient for the proof house. Has anyone deactivated these alloy tubes and if so what method was used?
  23. Excellent, thank you very much for the information Ian.
  24. Is it possible to use a Clansman headset with a Larkspur harness and if so what is the pin configuration. Thanks
