  1. There's a Canberra cockpit, up for grabs in West Yorkshire. At the Ponderosa animal park. Owner is Howard Cook ! It may be a bit big for your purpose.

    Regards

    stu

Hi, probably would be a bit big but what are Howard's contact details?

  2. Great to hear that someone can get over and work on these tanks, I will post some of the photos I took. As I said Charlie 1 is by far the worst which figures as its on the beach! The lighter metalwork on the upper surfaces is badly corroded as are a lot of the metal struts strengthening the metalwork of the track guards. The one on Hill 112 is in need of a fresh coat of paint. The one outside the museum at bayeaux had weeds growing out of the back end. Pretty shocking for one supposedly being looked after by a museum. There are also two others that need attention both Churchill/Centaurs, one at Pegasus bridge and the other nearby the Montgomery statue. These both just look shabby because of faded paintwork.

It all begs the question about who is responsible for them, long term, and what funds are available for their preservation. Does the British government pay anything? They bloody should do!

  3. Hi folks,

The Sywell Aviation Museum is looking for a cockpit section that could be used for people to sit in on a regular basis. It needs to be something like a Vampire, Hunter or something of that sort of size and doesn't have to be in particularly good nick. Anyone know of something like this that's up for grabs?

  4. Having just returned from a fantastic trip to the Normandy beaches I felt I must raise the issue of the state of some of the tanks used as memorials. It is very noticeable that anything American is well looked after, whereas the British tanks at best need a lick of paint and at worst are steadily rotting away! In particular the Churchill tank Charlie 1 which is an actual D Day tank is rusting badly! As is the one at Hill 112, What can be done? I,ve no idea who actually looks after them?

  5. Hi Matt,

sounds like you did much the same as me. Bought my 3HW last year and have been steadily replacing the missing bits and learning a lot about em. The guys on this site have been a great help I must say . Anyway welcome to the 3HW gang! :-D

  6. What's going on chaps? One of the things that's missing off my bike is the clutch cable adjuster that fits on the top of the gearbox and threads through the casing. So where an I get one from? Also something strange is that most of the pictures I've seen show that the casings are slotted above the adjuster. Mine isn't! So I'm wondering if that's normal or if its been welded up??

  7. Hi folks,

what are the approx dimensions and colour (I'm colour blind) of the oil level decal? Seen a few photos and want to get one made for my bike. Any particular place recommended to get it from?

  8. Hello folks happy Easter!

can anyone confirm or otherwise if the HP of the 350cc engine in the 3HW is 17hp. I'm sure that's what I saw somewhere but can't find it again. Someone challenged the figure at an event yesterday.

  9. Hi Ron.

That is really good of you, I would love to pop in sometime, I have a feeling I might need the odd spot of advice every now and again! I will look into the parts suppliers you mentioned but thank you again for your reply. I have been on this site for just over a day and I already have had a whole bunch of people saying hello! I'm so glad I came here!

    Matt.

Always nice to have another 3HW owner join us, I've had mine just over a year now and this site has been a great help. Welcome to the club!

  10. This maybe a long shot, but what the hell, you guys have answered all I've asked so far!! It's not specifically to do with a military bike but does involve an inter war triumph. My grandfather who spent most of his adult life working for triumph is supposed to have an unofficial record for a motorbike long jump. Apparently this was done, in the 20's or 30's, off a hump back bridge at Fenny Compton Wharf out side The Wharf pub and along the old Banbury to Southam road. There was a photograph hanging in the pub for years that I would dearly love to get a copy of. Enquiries haven't turned up anything yet, so does anyone know about this type of event or where I might get more info?

  11. I can't see that spec listed anywhere. But based on similar models I'd guess around 340 lbs give or take. Ron

Thanks Ron, that gives me some idea! had been thinking of a trip to the local weigh bridge!!!

  12. A Question in a few parts

1 Can you still get WW2 Pattern Knee Pads for A Triumph 3sw/HW

2 How do you remove them.

3 How do you refit them..

I have seen lots of tanks without the Knee Pads ..My tank has some that are in good condition for their age but I was interested to see if i could easily remove them to repair the tank ...?

    Jenkinov

Has anyone got photos of the bracket that's screwed to the tank that the knee pads fit over? Like Rons bike mine is one that probably didn't have em fitted but I would be interested to see how it was done so its an option to fit them later.

  13. Normal "trigger" type valve-lifter lever.............cable has a spring at the engine end to allow the lifter-arm to return....

Sorry for being a bit thick!! Trigger type lever? Any photos please. As I said the drawing in my book looks as though whatever lever is fitted is built into the same assembly as the clutch lever but obviously with its own cable etc.
