  1. I posted my new truck last year and I have been busy since then planning this years "upgrades", compared to most of the work around here I'm not sure I would call this restoration... I am limited by the fact the truck is stored in lewes and I live in London, and I dont have any under cover work space. So a bit weather constrained :D I have also just added an M35A1 "Reo" as well that needs a repaint, new canvas (again scored on this forum) etc.

When I purchased the truck it was configured as a USMC truck so I am turning it into a US Army truck to match our Living History group. I also purchased an M101A1 trailer (via this forum) so wanted to add the missing tow hitch.

So the tow hitch; This was found on the M37 forum and donated to the team if we covered postage, the issue being the main thread was destroyed! But was soem advice from the HMVF forum we purchased a die and rethreaded the main shaft. Some paint and its just waiting to be installed.

Rear Shackles & mounts: When the M37 was purchased it was configured as a USMC vehicle with the rear shackle mounts specific to this branch. The issue here is they foul the trailer cable plug and also put the shackle mounts to far out to tow a trailer. So some new mounts (1961 dated) were secured, painted and are waiting to be mounted.

M101A1 Trailer: My new trailer, see below, needs a good refurb and is missing all the frame and side bows. These were secured in the US and a huge pile of boxes like a big Lego kit arrived. These are now being prepped for painting. It also needs a wiring loom so found some NOS items in the US.

Right Hand Mirror: The M37 didnt come with a right hand mirror and with being left hand drive this proves a problem driving, aside from not being very safe. The Canadian issue M37s came with a right hand mirror. We have modded this so we can mount for travel and remove at shows.

  2. P-O,

I visited the Bayeux museum a number of times years ago and than once after it was reorganised. It used to be packed with vehicles, uniforms, items and historical pictures. After the reorganisation a lot of material has disappeared, including vehicles like the Morris PU, Caterpillar Dozer, Skoda truck and Daimler Dingo. From rumours I understand that the museum staff had some disagreements with the owner of a lot of the material, which led to the reorganisation. I remember seeing the Morris PU again a few years ago in the VeMil magazine....part of a small private collection in Normandy.

Back to the subject...I hope to see pics of the Panther restoration.

I was there in 2011 and there was a Cat Dozer, Sexton, towed quad, PAK40, towed generator (in a Ben Hur I think), 25 pounder, GMC and Sherman. This is what I have photos of and sure there was a lot more

Gear lever & high/low ratio 4wd levers, but what's the other lever on the tunnel?

No visible signs of a winch, pto or external shaft drive?

That Reo wouldn't be for sale would it...looking all sorry and unloved!

Also that Landie steering column looks wrong, could it have an engine replacement. A mate of mine has one with an Isuzu diesel and the plastic shroud round the column looks the same

  4. I concur with Steve Here Ferg. Lately I only attend W&P on a day trip with mates in a car. The distance is too far for me. Goodwood however is much nearer and we don't have to pay £25 and we get fed and watered. Ron

Just my 10 pence worth...yes but Goodwood does cost punters £125 for the weekend per person with camping £155 on top (and £54 for a grandstand per person) and has massive corporate sponsorship so they can afford to look after exhibitors.

  5. Greetings from the United States. I am interested in hearing from other owners of the Cab Over Autocar U-7144-T. I am looking for a cab bow for the canvas and original data plates. I would also enjoy hearing from others regarding their restoration and operation. Best regards.

Cheers. Did a quick Google image search and couldn't find anything. Will post it if aI do

  7. trained as a Grand Prix motorcycle mechanic in the 60s, company pulled out so joined HM Forces 9yrs, next trained as a carpenter, sold my company and moved to Spain were the wife and i own two very large resturants and a small Hotel in France and after that i will at some point pop my clogs, its been a great life so far.:nut:

    Now that sounds interesting!

  8. Ooooh no....

It had been decided that to commemorate the immense service that the regiment had given to life the universe and everything that a piece of table silverware would be commissioned - in the shape of a silver antar and trailer.

A voluntary monthly contribution was levied amongst everyone, and I recall it was not an insubstantial sum, and the repayment period was - er - lengthy.

The end result, whilst nice, was, shall we say, modest in size, and the Silver Antar issue became one of regimental lets not go there rather that a magnificent triumph....

So Silver Antar references were legion, and what better way to make a point than to paint the real thing? Miles cheaper and much better!

I think I am still paying for the sterling silver blighter........................

So did the Silver Antar get made in the end? Any pictures?

  9. just watched the second episode, I thought it was well presented, good effort to match the footage to the right period (not perfect of course but no early shots when they are talking about Germany in 1945)

So a decent "snapshot" history of the Filthy 5th I think
