thanks for the replies. When I went today they said this is a new policy coming in on Monday.
You fill the form in, they see if any duty is to be paid and send the response to the DVLA who then contact you, they used to send the form back to you.
I guess I will have to fill the form in and see what happens

Evening all
I went along to the DVLA today to register my REO. I had lots of photos, chasis number, data plates etc, insurance and letter from IMPS to verify the age. They weren't amazingly helpful and said I had to contact customs & excise to see if any duty has been paid. Not sure if the US military pay duty on bring stuff into Europe...
So got the form they said from the Customs site, form C384, and it mentions where did I import it form and port of entry. I bought in the UK, its just never been road registered...
this is the form
http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/forms/c384.pdf
Any suggestions on how I fill the forms in??

I'm with you on that detail Paul, but given the attention to detail, I wonder whether the compromise of smaller size wheels is to allow radial tyres and less leverage on the drums, giving better braking for a modicum of safety.. I'll try and ask him next time I see him.
I took a video of it once, may show more detail, I'll try and find it.
A little bit of safety never goes amiss, though with that length and weight over the front it must handle like a truck

A couple of more stylish ones...
The builder of this one is local to me, to my mind he has caught that 30s look perfectly
[video=youtube_share;6O1fSfANxbM]
he has captured the bodywork perfectly but like a lot of these specials the wheels are the wrong diameter, need to be much bigger to get the look right

looks like the cab survived the outdoor storage really well, less so the bucket hanging off the back...
Nice truck, I am guessing with the red on the bumper it was French firetruck?

If you haven't already, go here: http://www.jatonkam35s.com/jatonkaM35sTMdownloadpage.htm
and download the TM's. You could also buy all the TM's on DVD off ebay, but they are all the same.
You should get them all because the early TMs are much more useful than the later ones.
Biggest TM tip I can give you is that of the TM number ends in a 'P' then its the parts manual.
Good link. I have downloaded most of the TMs, for the REO and my Dodge/Trailer. Very handy things indeed!

First thing you need to do is make sure the hood (bonnet?) has the safety latch to keep it open. Mine did not.. that hood can catch the weakest of breeze and slam shut on you. And no matter what you are told... if you have the plastic vacuum wipers DO NOT squirt any lube into them. They need to be DRY to run.
You may not know it, but you will spend an amazing amount of time under the hood. There are hose clamps to keep tight, filters to change, fluids to check, ground wires to keep clean.
It looks like you have an M35A2C drop side bed. If you have the proper quick disconnect bow corners you will end up using that feature a lot. It really comes in handy if you have cargo.
Enjoy the truck! When you top off the fuel tank let us know what it costs
thanks for the advice and I really wouldn't want that bonnet on my head!!!!
Its not actually a dropside truck, those are fake hinges done for the film Green Zone. I will be replacing with a non buggered about body.

Chaps,
Out of interest, what is done to deactivate a tube when it has no firing pin or breach ??.
Ian
I have seen a whole cut in the tube and bars welded inside, a mortar I have has the latter
-
Its also a disposable launcher so cant be made to fire anything more than piece of drain pipe... still as you say teh law is the law.
I had one confiscated once when shipped from US, had huge holes cut in but didnt have proof house mark so they destroyed it ;(

If you install a new j-pipe (that's whats its called) drill a small (couple of 32's of an inch) hole at the lowest point to let the water out.
Other popular remedies are: self closing stack cap, switching to a stainless steel j-pipe, tin can at the top when not driving it and driving it more
And the diameter of the tube is for the j-pipe is the same as every other tube in the exhaust stack... after the turbo the tube diameter does not vary.
Cheers. Having holes is OK with exhaust fumes? I think I will put a can in the top like my Dad used to do with his trucks.

welcome on board. Lovely part of the world Norfolk. Just bought a house there

yes...thats my problem. Rainwater has collected and there is no bottom at all on the exhaust. Was thinking I could replace with some of that flexible exhaust pipe. Thanks for the offer though

its the curved part below the vertical stack and the engine/turbo I am interested in
Thanks in advance

as far as I remember we are not allowed to leave the living history field until 6.00 every year, we we would lave but we are not allowed back into the field from the support car park until 6.00 to load up. So no different to me from any other year. I just take Monday off now as it takes to long to take our display down

I personally think it would be interesting restored as the Metamet conversion

I can think of a few things i need fabricating... welcome on board.

I know it should be OD (or some other British colour) but it does look rather mean in black. Nice bike!

This is what I was told. I was at the DVLA in Wimbledon on Friday and they wouldn't start the process unless I had the form saying no excise was due. My problem with the form they said to fill in is that I bought the vehicle in the UK and it was brought here by the US government about 30 years ago. I guess I will just fill it in and see what happens...
