    Full exam this morning to finish list of bits needed, then find friendly Burt at Army Cars. I have his email, but do you have his tel. no.?

     

    Suppose I could use my CJ3A to practice with - any ideas what to soak it in to make it a winner?..... :whistle:

    If you look outside your front door I have just dropped off the cleaning stuff for the club house loos. Mop looks like it might need a new head.

     

    Sorry but I didn't get a chance to do them yesterday - only just found the gear outside my own door. I hope for your sake another new member comes along pretty smart-ish...... :-D

  4. A fascinating if serious topic.

     

    I am one of those with no formal cover (as I don't tend to venture very far - great respect to some of you lot!). So I tend to rely on friends with suitable recovery trucks/lowloaders on a help-each-other basis as I'm sure a lot of others do

     

    After reading this lot that's going to change pretty quick. If only for the reason that in certain cases, if you cannot effect recovery within a reasonable time, the Police might make arrangements for you, and that will cost a packet!!

     

    Thanks for waking me up to what I guess we should all regard as an essential in these times. HMVF Nationwide Red Ball Recovery Service from all those Diamond T 969 boys?

    In a desperate attempt to avoid expulsion from the forum on my first day, I would like to publish a formal retraction of said comment.

     

    I realise this was a totally flippant, offensive and inflammatory remark which could be taken out of context and which might cause great anguish.

     

    I wish to make it quite clear that I would never knowingly cause any injury to a M.V. of whatever origin. How about Tug-of-war with a...........instead?

    I hear you maybe breaking someone's WLF for parts during the show - if so I might be interested in a couple of halfshafts from rear Boigie :evil:

     

    Seriously, will be happy to bring a pair of overalls and lend a hand on Thursday if anything left to do (I'm quite good at dismantling stuff and scattering the bits aimlessly over a very large area....)

    For what it's worth:

     

    I spent a long while driving my 353 closed cab around (at 30-35), becoming more and more paranoid about even the slightest whine or rattle. When I eventually got to be a passenger in the back I could not believe what a beautifully smooth sounding engine and transmission it had! :-D A highly recommended experience if your'e getting worried.

     

    Only real noise was lumping and bumping when turning sharp at low speed or running on bumpy surface - no play at all in axle tie bars, but I put a new rubber bushed set on anyway and what a transformation - trouble is new tie bars are not cheap any more....

     

    High speed running - came oh so close to visiting the ditch one day after fitting new tyre/rim assemblies (off ben hurr trailers) - front wheel balancing cured it but frightening how the wobble builds up to be almost uncontrollable.

     

    I've heard mention that balancing propshafts will transform the ride of a jimmy - anyone had luck with this?

     

    Sorry if these points raised before, it is taking a long while to work through all your postings - so much useful information in here, some great advice, tales and dark humour.....

  9. Hi. I'm Tony. Before you let me in, you should know a few things:

     

    1) I've been a closet CCKW353 trucker for some 16 years now, mainly confined to ferrying returning US vets around local airbase - a great privilege

     

    2) A while back I contraced Scammellitis. The worst symptoms so far came out at W+P 2001 (RAF Constructor). That cleared up, but as the pics show the disease is merely dormant and will probably reappear......

     

    3) Member of UKWLFOC - a M1 series 4 waiting in the workshop for imminent 'product improvement' (next job once the Chev M6 is finished). This one may have to work a bit for it's feed and water!

     

    4) The ONLY (lonely) member of the Osgood 200 Club - works but needs a good old "sort out" - anyone need a load for their trailer soon? (excuse the archive pic - the tarpaulins are a :argh: to get off)

     

    5) Fettish - Clarkat 'B' (can't wait to go on a future Op. Bolero road run with this one!!!)

     

    Before you consign me to the HMVF SAD SHACK ...........I've got to tell you I need loads of help/advice/regular medication, and am happy to pass on what little I might have learned over the years.
