  1. no u dont need or get a mot at first registration of mv, if said mv is mot exempt.

    Hi

my Austin champ already has a log book, but on the log book it is down as a farmers HGV ? and date of reg is 1968. i am going to get it a age related plate so it will show historic on the v5 and its correct date when it was built 1954. The MVT have check it out and i have the paper work to take to the DVLA, can anyone see any pit falls with my plan ? i

I plan to do this after the 18th of nov which is when pre 1960 are exempt MOT. I have two issues with the log book at present one is its tax class which shows farmers HGV Which it is not and the fact that it has no date of when the champ was made, and you are correct about first registration. My ferret did not need a MOT at fisrt regidtration as it was made in 1959. just ticked the box on the 112 g form.

    thanks for your input.

    Regards Tony.

  2. Hi

i have a 1954 Austin champ which has a 1968 v5 as a farmers HGV ? it has been off the road for some 10 years or so. i am going to get it a age related plate so it will show historic on the v5 and its correct date when it was built 1954. The MVT have check it out and i have the paper work to take to the DVLA, can anyone see any pit falls with my plan ?

    Thanks Tony.

  3. I recently bought an Austin champ form a person in Standish, Wigan to be fair to the seller I did take sometime in my decision to buy the champ. I then decided to buy the champ and we agreed a price for the champ and all of the spares that he had collected over the years. I then paid the agreed price to the seller. The collection of the spares and champ took a total of 3 trips. When we agreed the price for the deal I did not get to see all of the parts due to them brining in different locations. (My first mistake). The reason we had to do a 3rd trip was because parts that were critical for us to assembly the vehicle were not in the box that we had all ready collected so this trip was frosty to say the least, Only due to the fact that items had been promised and not delivered. My second mistake was to take some one at face value. On my last visit I was told by the seller that we now had all of the spares. This week a rear diff and radiator has gone on EBay from this person. I am very disappointed that at the riper old age of 49 that this person has had my pants down and as a member of the champ club would urge champ owners to steer clear of this person.

  4. Hi Matt

The Ferret at Grantham is a MK 2/3 GPMG fit with Clansman. DIS was Oct 59, hull number 2115 8/59 (Stamped on Hull plate missing) Reg 03CC07. Sent to HQ RMLY as gate guardian 12/07/95 I have some pics but will sort them out at a later date.

    Regards Tony.

  5. Hi John

Yes, there are still some sequences in the build of the later ferrets, sometimes just 2 or 3 numbers, sometimes much more.

I think the sequences must have been broken up with the export orders. So the build might have been something like say 7 ferrets for MOD contract 6/FV/5135, then 12 for export, then another 13 for 6/FV/5135 and so on. I'm gradually building up the sequences in my register. And pleased to say have helped identify some unknown ferrets from it by working out the shorter sequences. (blowing my own trumpet :-)) I am very careful not to give out mis-information. The job is like repainting the humber bridge though :-)

I saw that 00EC26 was listed on ebay last year, but I don't know who bought it. Hopefully the owner will google the registration and pop up on here.

    Cheers

  6. Hi all, my name is Bill Smuts and currently own a Soviet GAZ 69 dated 1956 which I have restored. It was supposedly used by the Polish Coastal Command before being sold off into the civilian market sometime in the 1990's. It was brought over from Poland in 2009 and I purchased it in 2010 and have been working on it since bringing it back to the Soviet spec of the 1960's as closely as possible. I have an in interest in all things military, collecting militaria of WWI and of the South African army from WWI to post WWII. Cheers

    Hi Bill

Welcome to the forum, not sure how many from the club are on this site?

  7. Is it a 2.5 NA Diesel? If so, you should be able to get a sender to fit. I don't think they're metric, rather BSP taper thread. I think what you need is PRC4372, but I'm not entirely sure. I have since upgraded to VDO senders and gauges as I fitted a 200TDi to mine and the old stuff would not give me a good reading.

    Nige

Thanks for that i will need to check the part number on the item we have. it looks like the engine is a re-con which is fitted to FFR OR GS Landrovers when the 2.5 is nacked all the pipe work is fitted for the oil cooler and when we put the power lead to earth the gauge in the cab works ok. i will get back to you when i check the part number.

    Regards Tony.
