  1. Af,noon chaps

Could anyone confirm please that it is, or is`nt, possible to lift a 432 K60 pack out using an FV623/624 Stolly ?

I've lifted many a pack myself with a Leyland Martian (many years ago) & helped the A mechs do it with a 434....but never seen it done with a Stolly. Does it have sufficient lift capacity, stability & reach ???

Reason for asking....the 1/24th scale model 432 master patterns are now approaching completion & when I do one of the test builds I'd like to pose it with the pack in mid air using one of the Stolly kits. A 434 kit is planned in due course, but for now the Stolly is all I have with a crane.

Any advice/thoughts on the matter much appreciated.:thanx:

    Hi Howard.

i do have a book which I think is called the B series engine in national service which shows on the front cover a stolly lifting a engine out of a Saladin. Not sure if this answers your question but keep up the great work with these iconic vehicles .

  2. Just a update on my application for age related registration . Went to DVLA Chester today with my v5 log book and letter of verification from the MTV. After a lot of questions in the office by the person dealing with my application . She came back to me with new registration from 1954 (form number v948 number plate authorisation cert) a new V112 dated 10/12 (categories a to o ) o is the new cat pre 1960. And a v10 application for a tax disc. She gave me my v5c/3 back to me and sent the rest of to Swansea with my letter of verification . She has told me that my new v5 will be back in about 6 weeks and to come back to sort out a tax disc and sort the tax class out (from restricted Hgv farmer to histrionic . Will require insurance if I won't to tax. Very helpful at Chester , seams to easy.

Well still waiting for my new log book 9 weeks on . Called DVLA and was told that my application is with the policy markers even though that the application was made before the 18 of November goal post seams to come to mined . As I said seams to easy.

  3. There will never be another show the equivalent of W&P.

It amazes me that people think all you need is a field & you have a show, as the co-organiser of a successful show now it our 8th year this couldn't be further from the truth.. there are already shows springing up further North & given time they will grow but not to the scale of the W&P show.

    Never say never. :)

  4. I've seen plenty of camper conversions that do not have under run bars (DAFS & MJ's), campers are MOT'd under different regs compared to the HGV regs. For a vehicle to MOT'd as a camper it has to have the fittings fixed in place toilet beds and such.

In the RB44's case the Box body is tiny with enough room for two beds down the sides and a cooker somewhere near the door or in the middle of the aisle towards the front of the body. Underun bars not needed VOSA here in Chadderton would have mentioned it by now. RB44's were always MOT'd at the local VOSA station or the equivlant by the Army or its agents. My better halfs company had the contract for repairing and servicing the RB44's, Bedfords, Land rovers and the like for Manchester at one point.

    Hi Andy

thanks for the advice just toying with some ideas at the moment, like the thought of just turning up at a show and having instant accommodation.

    Regards Tony

  5. Fairly straightforward as its under 7.5t, you "may" need under run bars, class vii mot, so you need to book in advance which may take some time. See my thread on this very process http://hmvf.co.uk/forumvb/showthread.php?32275-Proving-age-of-vehicle-when-registering

Make sure you have the cast cert from the MOD as this will make the process much easier.

    Hi again

if you turn it in to a camper do you need under run bars (RB with ops box on the back)?

    Regards Tony

  6. Hi

Hi I am looking at marking my Austin champ as a TA unit RASC . Can you get the markings from dealers ? Any advice on this matter would be appreciated . My vehicle has no unit history just dates it to and out of service. It was a late release from the Army so it would have seen service with the TA . I have picked RASC due to the fact that I I'm still serving with the RLC. Any help would be great.

    Regards Tony.

  7. HI to all

I am thinking of buying a austin champ, any problems with them?,i have heard of rear axle problems.

Any info for and against would be great.

    Thank you,

    ROB.

    Hi Rob

just like you I have a Ferret Mk 2/3 1959 and have bought a Champ this year and the most important thing that I have learnt was to make sure all the parts come with the vehicle if you are thinking buying one that is in bits. (Took the seller at face value). The Austin champ owners club are a great source of friendly advice. Ps great choice love my champ nearly complete with the help of Dave Lock and the fitters in my Reme section.

  8. Without getting into the legalities and going round and round in what constitutes a special vehicle or an engineering vehicle or even an educational vehicle the onus is on the owner to have the vehicle correctly MOT'd and taxed. If you have an accident and the insurance company deems that the vehicle should have been MOT'd and not exempted the insurance company will void the insurance leaving you uninsured and liable for any damages that the other vehicle owner has inccured. If you can say that you have enough money in you're bank account or the value of you're house plus you're parents house and pension pot to pay off a personnel injury claim then go ahead and exempt you're vehicle.

    Nough said

That not for me then Andy

  10. When submitting the forms to the DVLA with the V112g it gives a list of possible exemptions if yours falls into one of these then you will be OK I used Engineering truck (4) for my DAF. But I was registering it as a Special Vehicle.

But that was for a Goods Vehicle the exemptions for ordinary vehicles are less.

When you tax it then you have to take the form to the post office they never asked me any questions.

Thanks for that,a pre 1960 exemption is new on the 18th on this month.

  11. the mot does not start the process of generating docs i was first to road reg my ferret 1.no mot needed in fact first official paperwork is getting mv insured under hull no 2. i contacted vosa daimler ferrets are mot exempt because they are classed as motor tractors 3. this has all been done to death if further reading required look under legislation section of this forum , then mot exemption legislation sit back and read all 44 pages of it!!!!!!!!:cool2:

    Hi

yes i know that you do not have to MOT a ferret as i have completed the process as i was the first to road reg my ferret. i also got in contact with DVLA who informed me that i had 2 options on exemption of MOT. one motor tactor. Two, due to its age 1959 i could use exemption 30 pre 1960, pick one so i did.

    Regards Tony

  12. daimler ferrets are mot exempt because they are classed as motor tractors ,nothing to do with when they are built

    Hi

Yes you can use motor tractors but you can use pre 1960 which is number 30 on DVLA form v112g which is for veh over 3500 kg. my ferret is 1959 mk2 which is 3800kg dry weight . Some ferrets where made after 1st Jan 60 so you have to use motor tractor. they are looking at removing most of the exemptions on the v112g, pre 1960 is not one of them.

    Regards Tony
