  1. Not outrageous and they'd probably stand bidding on it. Yes I believe condition is all important where models are concerned.
  2. How much did they want for it? Here's one on Fleabay for £35. Looks like its had a hard life - must have done a lot of miles and seen a few war zones. :-D http://tinyurl.com/cohl9hd Think I saw a recovery listed too at £99
  3. Thanks for the input Gordon. I'd tend to agree about the age. Little suprised about the lack of other info coming forward. Thought you clued up lads here would have had more to say on this.
  4. Hi All, I've looked at all the subforum titles and don't see anything that's an exact fit for this question, so I'll drop it in here. I have come across the carb sitting on a shelf in my workshop. It came from my local garage (along with a lot of other stuff) many years ago when they sold up for modernisation to a 24hr self serv site. As a recovery vehicle they had a 1939 Chevrolet wrecker with an Austin(?) straight 6 petrol engine. Could this carb have been a spare for that vehicle?
  5. Hi All joined some months back but keep getting prodded to do this so I'd best be a good boy  I'm not into the old military vehicles big time as some of you, however I have done lots of work in the past on civilian & ex MOD series Land Rovers. I also remember my local Shell Garage having a 1939 Chevrolet wrecker with a Harvery Frost winch frame on the back as their recovery vehicle. (Throttle pedal in the middle). At that time it was run permanently on trade plates, but I understand the original number was JTE 80. I joined here because someone I knew from another forum was looking for a Leyland Martian Recovery with a diesel in it. Thought I might have been able to gain a few beer tokens by finding him one. After some internet research and a few phone calls I did find a suitable vehicle just about within budget, the man then went quiet! :banghead: :??? Don't expect to be a regular contributor here, but I do get to Flukeburgh steam rally most years and enjoy looking at all the old trucks etc. I have a 1960 SWB series 2 Land Rover (civi) been off the road 20+ yrs awaiting full rebuild. (one day!) and a 1963 SWB series 2A (civi) which is road legal but needs painting. Jonathan
  6. If you can get it running something like right, get it nice & hot, take her for a drive where you've got room to play, there's a chance the clutch will come off.
  7. Hello from a new member. Anybody know of a Martian Recovery with diesel conversion to sell? Or 2nd choice, an AEC Militant.
