  1. Haven't posted here in some years. And in that time had a few vehicles pass through my hands. Latest acquisition is a 110 V8 landrover snatch. 100% complete with a very good provenance. I have photos of it in service in Northern Ireland where it was damaged in a blast bomb attack.  And photos of it in service with the Royal Anglians in Basra. Thoroughly enjoying it. And despite the weight penalty of over 3.5 ton it shifts well

    What you have is standard pick up used on U.S bases in the UK. These were sold off as the Ford F series came into service. U.S military police units use the Ford Interceptor now.

  3. Just come across this. Was on Mildenhall the weekend. It's earmarked for closure 2020. But a friend has just had his tour extension denied which would have took just him to 2018. So everyone is assuming it's going before then.

     

    Operations are being transferred with the 100th ARW being located to Ramstein.

     

    Lakenheath and Feltwell will remain open and the Base size increased with a possibility of two new squadrons augmenting the three already there which will transfer over to the F35 and F22. Lakenheath will be the last front line USAFE fighter station in western Europe.

  4. Had a great time these. We camped at Pegasus bridge. Did all the beaches and a few museums. And even managed to find my way onto the 10pm ITN news lol. Great week and great people.

  5. None of it was covered by insurance. And has for the deact certs. Then I can't place where they are as when all the weapons were acquired I have since moved twice.

     

    Just having a rough tally up on stuff stolen then it's around the £6,000 mark. It really has put a sour taste on Christmas.

  6. Sorry to hear about what was stolen from your garage in the raid last night, I wonder if your garage was the target as none beyond yours were touched and nothing obviously taken from the others that were broken into, just as well the Jeep was safe in the workshop.

    One of my garages at the other nearby location was broken into the other month but fortunately nothing was taken, I've got CCTV on that site now

     

    It looks that way. I do think its someone with knowledge to the garages,as the old ferret lock up which had no lock or pad lock fitted didn't even have the door lifted up. Spoke to someone next to me earlier and he had quite a few bottles of multipack drink stolen. But they had seemed to work their way through mine. Stole the big generator as well. Thankfully the .50 wasn't taken(more a case of to cumbersome to get away with) I have no doubt though that they would have come back for it. And I still believe that they will be back. Luckily for me also. The 1928 Thompson M1 Garand and trench shotgun were well buried. So I was able to recover them.

  7. Hello all. Well the Christmas spirit is not shinning on me this year. I had my garage broken into during the storms last night. And a bit of militaria was stolen including an old spec L1A1 SLR. an old spec Sterling sub machine gun. A LAW 72. Ingersoll Rand stamped Colt M1911. M1918 trench knife. 4 pineapple grenades. An airsoft SA80. I know their is a slim to virtually no chance of any of this turning up. But I thought I would throw it out there just in case.

  8. My late father had a Metamet Jeep back in 1957. He had all ready had a 1942 Willys that he bought from Pride And Clarkes that he had for 5 years and run it into the ground. He wanted something different next time around with a bit of comfort but did'nt want to stray to far from a Jeep type vehicle. It was then that he noticed Metamet were producing "station wagons" and after looking through one of there station wagon brochures he bought one. I would say return it as a Metamet Jeep. But at the end of the day it,s your vehicle and your choice.

  9. You couldn't do that kind of restoration now as the original boxed parts are no longer available. This was three years in the making as the rule from the start was always to use original boxed parts which we managed to do. The only patern parts on it are the Tony Sudds wiring loom,tyres, and the mount for the .50(made by Dave Gunn) My late father had tried 12 years previously for Tony to take it on. But at the time he had just finished his 42 GPW and didn't want to take on another so soon. It wasn't till I was driving in 1987 that we got the ball rolling again. We have had the jeep 37 years.

  10. Tony Sudds done a full nut and bolt restoration on my Jeep back in 1989. He used to use Glasruits(spellings) which was a gloss paint which Tony added a lot of matting agent to. The finished result left a slight sheen to it. Which has stood the test of time which is evident in the pics below. Glasruits stopped doing the paint a couple of years after Tony restored the jeep. He went on to use another type of paint which by his own admittance wasn't the same. I haven't spoken to Tony in a couple of years. So maybe he,s come up with something else.
