getting parts for Russian trucks is probably easier (and cheaper) but most of them look like they probably drink more

looking for advice relating to cleaning the fuel injection system - best products, methods etc., cheers

(vehicle in question is the Dodge50-series with Perkins Phaser 110T and a single element-type fuel filter - a slug at the best of times with AWD but something of a superslug at present)

do you have any old shipping containers or similar available or would it be strictly for vehicles only?

currently rent a small locked yard and a block of large (17'Lx9'Wx12'H) garages, some of which I sublet for £70/mth to help with costs - running out of room and whilst i'm looking to relocate this year, my folks live in EG and would be handy to have some overspill storage nearby, but would unlikely be needed for vehicles at present

thanks bob, I suspect the image was originally posted on such a forum, unfortunately, although i've spent a good few hours looking thru threads (and enjoyed it) i've had no luck locating one with that image yet (seen some shots of RAE/F Thurleigh which look to have very similar sheds) and not having become an active member, feel a bit awkward asking, if you know what I mean

bit random but I collect and repair these old machines and have a hunch, from type of shed/colour scheme that this one may lie abandoned on a disused military base - if anyone can corroborate this, would love to know which one, so I can begin making enquiries to rescue and repair/rebuild it

this appeared on the market (310391165381) in the right quantity (500ml) and at the right price (£6 delivered) - my drip-can is now full once more and i've still half an aerosol to play with - happy days

(discovered it's best not to tilt drip-can until it has warmed up again tho )

tbh, after I posted, I started wondering the same thing - you want a top coat and what i've been using (Sigmafast20) is an undercoat/primer really, although does dry with something of a dull shine

realise it's the wrong colour for most but resistant to the elements without a topcoat applied (and holds rust back a treat)

wonder if they do it (or something with more the finish you're after) in green - they have quite a range so maybe worth an enquiry? http://www.sigmacoatings.com/

sigma coatings red/brown - one coat and you can leave outside in a salty wind-swept yard for 10 years no bother

£5/ltr too - lovely

a trip to Pease Pottage proved reasonably successful - a Defender in the pound yielded 1.5 rear lights (£fiver) with a much more robust looking holder moulding and a detour to Gumtree Ditchling Common on way back produced the missing bulbholder and loom plug-in (£15 NIB - used would have done but at least it's done) - hoping to get my monies worth out of this pair ...

Sigmafast red/brown is a quick-drying marine paint by Sigma Coatings and works well for me (on coast on metal new or old)

66 now - love discoveries like this - stuff laying 'forgotten' for years, not to mention the deeper understanding and affinity with our planet that comes from devoted work of this kind

live in work clothes (occasionally changing into a freshly washed set of an evening ) as never far away from dirty jagged things and having grown tired of ruining decent jeans etc. carrying batteries I didn't know were leaking, squeezing past sharp metal objects, just reaching in under to ... ahhh, there's some oil there!

added the extra 'r' as someone had already nabbed the normal spelling when changing an ebay user id - stuck with it for this place

sounds like I need to get down the local LR parts dept. before i've used up my last spare (unless someone here has some surplus used/new original bulb holders or recommend a cheaper source of genuine parts? - can collect if local and you don't fancy queing in the post office)

might be taking a gander round Bridges yard on Saturday - they occasionally have an old series lurking in a corner somewhere

alright for lenses but getting thru these Wipac holders, even after requesting extra reds in place of indicators in the last batch (not the first time it's happened but first time the bulb has managed to short out the circuit on it's way out)

not sure I should be glad i'm not the only one suffering this problem (but will take some comfort from the knowledge - cheers chaps)

recently fitted some Wipac lamps to my vehicle and have had some issues with the quality of the plastic moulding where the lugs on the bulb lock in - the plastic doesn't seem tough enough to hold the bulb and sprung pressure as the bulb warms up the plastic melts allowing the bulb to pop out (last night creating a short and blowing the fuse - rear number plate lamps only was a bit too stealth)

googling didn't throw up any similar reports - am I the only one or has this problem occurred before? (bulbs are of correct type with one 'high' lug and one 'low')

thought the Wipac units were an improvement on the Britpart lamps i'd bought previously but still a bit disappointed

ashamed to say that is a beautifully simple effective (and obvious) idea that had not occured to me - thanks :blush:

still costing out importing some Penephite and Kroil - coming out at around £7.50/8oz can (screw top/drip-spout) delivered to UK with shipping/haz-mat fee but without customs duty/tax (awaiting confirmation on approximate liability)

right, my search has led me to Kano and their Kroil and Penephite oils, the latter of which sounds very similar to the Rustola I have taken for granted for several years

having failed to find a UK distributor, contacted Kano who have explained they don't have a UK agent as such but are happy to ship to the UK, explaining that others have previously clubbed together to share the Fedex haz-mat ($110), shipping etc. fees

their products sound like the real deal, they seem to be available in 1-gallon, 32oz and 8oz but have asked for confirmation and an idea on various prices and costs to get over

any interest? anyone already done this and got a secret stash they be willing to share?

interested in a RB75 chassis cab (running/rolling) but it's north of the border - anyone got space on a trip south and interested in filling it? guess it's 2.5t and 16ft(ish)

thanks for the link Toolman - havn't used Plusgas in years - remember it being an alternative to WD40 and something that tends to dry out fairly quick? / not as fine as graphited oil but memory may be doing me a disservice - happy to stand corrected and description certainly sounds tempting ...

havn't found anything graphited in local stores yet but see a small selection on ebay - Blast Off Screw Loose, undisclosed can capacity - looks like 400ml - hope so for the price - £11.64 delivered, Sterling 12x400ml pack £41.04 delivered and Tygris R209 (400ml), again sold in a 12pack and for £55.85 delivered

don't s'pose anyone here sells in their shop and can do me a can at a nice price?

after discovering that the automotive (most effective) version of Nitromorz had been discontinued when looking to replace my used up 5L tin recently i've now hit the same problem with Holts Rustola, a graphited penetrating oil that used to be available in a handy 3in1 size (250ml) drip-in tin (argghhhh!)

only available now in aerosol (wtf?)

what is the world coming too when you can't just pick up a can of super-fine oil, tilt it and run a few drops into a rusty thread etc. (since when did an aerosol offer improved controlled dispersion over a drip-can and after say 2years sat on a shelf with 2/3 contents removed?!)

guess I will just have to cherish the memories of the wonderful properties of this easy-to-use now-extinct product :-(
