  1. if al else fails, perhaps you can get one made at your local exhaust place?
  2. the main bit of the naval landing was filmed in pembroke, the bit i did was in a massive tank at pinewood, I remember thinking, "that cant be right!" when i saw the landing craft, great fun shooting that though, got paid to frolic in the water and play war with blunt swords, rubber axes and floating horse poo whie wearing wetsuits under leather armour.
  3. it cant hurt to have it thats for sure! :-) Does your one have any diagrams of the inner workings of the gearbox? At the moment, works stopped on mine as the leaking front seal is proving to be a sod to get out---theres an oval cover with two flat head screws holding it in place. I have been able to remove the top screw, but the bottom wont budge-even on a chisel. its making me worry that theres more to this oval part than a mere cover or retainer. also I want to learn a lot more about the hi-lo transfer mech before I start fooling with it. I think its worht me sitting tight for a few days till the manual arrives,, then its "hammer time!" I will of course take pics, and post em up. lol,, one of my friends saw the fiat panda engine hanging on our lifter and earnt himself a filthy look when he called it a sewing machine! :nut:
  4. and its bought! i will let you know if its any good as soon as it arrives.
  5. superb find mate-i found it and am going to snap it up!!
  6. I wear flecktarn for airsoft, I get most of my kit from ebay germany, odds are if your going to find that brassard anywhere, then thats where it will be.
  7. Hi guys,, thankyou for the warm welcome. hi scarab,, If you go oon the munga talk topic you will see a few pics of mine. I havent so much restored it as it was in ok nick to begin with,, just given here a well needed clean upand repaint alongside an ongoing mechanical tweaking session. AS for getting one, yes, i say go for it. They are cheap and fun, and relatively easy to work on. It might not be quite as glam as some of the more famouse things, but hey, its green and makes me smile!
  8. Ok, decided today to take the gearbox out and do a proper job of sorting these problems while at the same time giving the box an overhaul. If anyone has any practical knowledge of the inner workings or even better some sort of workshop manual, i'd be willing to keep you in beer for a very long evening as a thankyou! ps mark--havent posted the bits yet--been frantic over here. but they will be in the post this week!
  9. hey i was in a historical film not so long ago where they had a saving private Ryan style scene complete with landing crafts set in the 14th century. Admittedly the landing crafts had oars but hey, hardly accurate. The point is that films are entertainment and so its not really fair to expect 100% authenticity. Annoying as it is I guess the new dambusters flick will probably be a good entertaining movie inspite of innaccuracies and pc line watching. On the plus side, when there is a big budget film that nods towards history the Discovery channel normally releases a few documentries on the subject, and they "should" be pretty good on the facts side of things. btw, did you know they are casting for the new "bridge too far" remake at them moment?
  10. The decision to not use the word " nigger" in the new dambusters movie is probably connected to certification. The producers will be probably be worrying that if they include it, it will mean they have to go for 15 rating rather than a pg, and this will restrict its potential number of viewers. got to remember filmmaking for film makers is a labour of love and a chance to tell a story, (not a documentry) and for producers its a money making enterprise and nothing more, they view anything that might reduce their return as undesirable and will put pressure on sript writers to remove/edit or otherwise neutralize the potentially offensive word. personally i think anyone watching the dambusters and getting offended by the word nigger being used in the context its being presented in has to be a fairly ignorant individual who deserves the equally unpleasant epithet of pillock, moron or plonker.
  11. im 60/40 decided on buying a new thrust bearing anyway, im trying to recall if we slotted the pins in right when we did the clutch.
  12. if you can fit a dodge in its a big garage!:cool2:
  13. Right the saga of the honking clutch,, paqrt 2!! I took the engine out today, (the first time i have ever done this on my own!) and exposed the thrust bearing and foront gearbox seal. As expected the seal was weeping like a widow, (SAE80 oil on order and ep80 being drained tomorrow!) when i took the thrust bearing off i noticed that it had some fresh wear on the sides, and the rebates that the retaining wire lock into had been worn almost away... does this mean a new thrust bearing has to be sought? sorry the images arent great
  14. looks very snug in there, im guessing its shuffle time when you want to get the body on?
  15. sounds good mate. the brakes seem to be the most reliable part on mine,, its always happy to stop!
  16. HI john! Shame you moved, colchesters only about 30 miles away! my transmission issues are basically the same as yours, my hi-lo doesnt work properly, in hi ratio it keeps going out of gear (even with the stick still lodged in whatever gear it was in) and only returns when you tug the hi-lo handle. and its developed a habit of making a loud honking noise when lifting the clutch and applying the gas, which doesnt happen when the hi lo levers pulled out into low range. add to that thanks to this forum i just discovered its full of the wrong oil--ep80 rather than sae 80,, which explains why my front seal is peeing tranny oil out... so at mo its in garage with me tugging the engine free so as to do some gearbox jiggery pokery..... fun! i also suspect that its not actually ever going into low range as it will do 90kph in low without sounding even slighty annoyed.
  17. no it has an adaptor plate. other than that though it fits in the bay a treat. i did have a few issues when i fitted its new clutch too--the outer circumference of the clutch had to be machined down by 5mm all around to make it physically fit, it doesnt seem to have made much difference to the clutch though had a few teething issues.
  18. its a grand way for your dad to spend his time! mines powered by a fiat panda 1.2 lump. its a great little engine with bags of oomph and best of all its giving around 40mpg, i have thought about returning it to original but its probably beyond my abilities at this time, and i have to admit the panda lump is a doddle to work on. I havent seen a spare lump for one of these thats been in working order, again I think when i last went to bob days place he had a couple of seized blocks but no complete units. btw heres the bits i have, the dash has one missing switch,
  19. thanks mark! its still a work in progress but im doing about 50 miles a week in it at the moment, mainly to run it in again. im following your mungas progress, it looks like your doing a fine job with it!
  20. Hello Munga fans! Im new to this forum but thought id post in the munga section seeing as I happen to own one! Im also going to be asking for some advice regarding transmission issues, but first a few pics of my little green monster! and this is it last wednesday morning we drove it to war and peace, the gun mounting is only on at the moment as the windscreens still not fully ready to go back on, it looked great packing an m60 though..
  21. Hi everyone, I'm Mitch, from Bicknacre in Essex. I am the proud owner of an ex dutch army Munga, made in 63. I recently finished a partial restoration and took it to its first show (war and peace last week!) and am currently considering getting another mv to either fiddle with of drive. Mitch
