  2. Thanks to all those that have replied, but so far no luck......in the uk anyway, have placed an order in Canada for 400 1/4 and 400 5/16 its cheaper than having them made here including the shipping.

    cheers

  4. That's a nice tool. Is there a square boss on the underside of the punch or do you put a nut in the middle so that it wraps around? Also, how to you cut out the blanks? Sawing and filing could be pretty tedious!

We are always on the lookout for square nuts to go on the coach bolts holding the bodies together on our WW1 lorries. For the first lorry, I made them. Then after that our very helpful bolt supplier 'Bernie the Bolt' asked around his contacts and came up with a load. More recently, Tim (aka' Great War Truck') has found that they still use them in the US and has brought some back in his luggage after buying them in an ordinary hardware store. Now, this doesn't help you very much other than if you are prepared to pay for them, could you get a US supplier to box some up for you?

Not very helpful, I'm afraid, but they do at least still make them in UNC sizes.

    Good luck!

    Hi Steve

there is a square boss on the underside of the press tool, with slightly chamfered edges so they come out the same as the original ones i have. i have found some US traders on line who have them , maybe the way to go. i can get bigger and smaller easy but its the 1/4 and 5/16 thats pain. may have to get some made.

    Cheers

  6. The manifold will flood with just a couple of pumps of the throttle due to the accelerator pump, it pumps in lots of fuel each time you press the throttle and if the engine is not up and running at it will pool in the manifold as it has nowhere to go.

have you checked the timing? if it too far advanced it will try and fire but kick back and disengaged the starter. even more fun of you use the starting handle! keep your thumb out the way.

if you have checked it, its time to do a compression test.

  7. change points and condensor, then set the timing (making sure you do it on the correct side of the cam depending which engine you have i.e chain or gear as they turn in different directions), i then advance the timing as far as poss before pinking occurs, copes better with modern fuel.

if its turning over too fast is it low on compression? i.e valve adjusters have wound out, they do it for fun!.

i have electronic ignition on all my stuff, no complaints at all, i source coils from local motorfactors as they are cheaper!
