Guys
Removed the cargo body sides for the first time on my CCKW :nut:.
As feared this revealed some corrosion on the cargo body uprights that has been quietly festering for many years by the looks of it :-(
With holes of various sizes, backwards into the cargo body, and down to the wheels, what's the best sort of repair do here ? Patch welds, or is there is specific box section repair kit around ?
Your thoughts would be appreciated.
Kind regards to all

Apologies, when I post from work, the formatting gets all messed up, and it won't let me editTry it without the 'Kind' on the end - http://www.theatlantic.com/infocus/2011/08/world-war-ii-the-american-home-front-in-color/100122 :cool2: -
Stumbled across this high quality colour slideshow on the web. Spot the tantalising photo of the CCKW 352/353. Just a shame more of the vehicle isn’t shown... http://www.theatlantic.com/infocus/2011/08/world-war-ii-the-american-home-front-in-color/100122/Kind regards to allVulture

Awesome !! LOLI got busy with loads of other things in those days and never saw any follow up to the Panther...are there any photos of it about now?PS: there was a very amusing postscript to the M10 Mike Phelps had...the yard he worked in was on a small industrial estate and when he fired her up one day the clutches stuck in and before he could shut her off she went straight through the wall of the adjoining industrial unit belonging to a double glazing business demolishing the corner of the building and a fair part of the display units all set up inside.....it made all the local newsapapers back in the day........:-D -
Wow, great picture !"susan" on gmc , not sure of the one on the Jeep.....Love it.

Deadline, thanks for your advise, I'll make sure I follow it. Cheers VultureWhen the US Army switched from 140wt to 90wt gear oils there was a *huge* 'fight' as to the proper level. The oil level can rise almost an half an inch (1-2cm) when 'hot' due to expansion and air in the fluid. So you don't want to CHECK it when hot, but about 30 min after driving. Also, you don't want to check it 'cold' because if you rotate the ring gear due to wheel movement, a significant amount of cold oil will 'cling' (due to the oils viscosity) and show a very low reading. -
Deadline, I'm missing the plate from the middle of the dash that shows the gear lever positions. My trucks chassis no is CCKW352 315834. Any thoughts you have on the correct replacement would be much appreciated. Kind regards VultureHave you researched the proper data plates? There are over 21 different plates in 5 major groups. The plates that come from 'Poland' (I see them on ebay) are lacking as to correct plates.None should be brass. They used zinc for production trucks. I cannot find anything that points to brass plates (some very, very early trucks had factory brass plates) but like the great rubber purge, brass was quickly put on the 'strategic materials' list and data plates would not have been given an exception.Post your trucks SN if you like and I can get some plate info for you. -
I like it ;-)The music at the beginning, is that from Kelly's Heroes? (Yes I know I could look it up but I'm suffering from CBA just now)
Hi Toner.
Yes it is 'Burning Bridges' from (the classic) Kelly's Heroes
The song was sung by the Mike Curb Congregation and is one of my favourite war movies tunes.

Excellent! Just what we need and well done you (and well done son for suggesting it). We should make this a sticky and all of us get out there and take/make more!
Paul
Just thinking, we have a gallery for photos, why not a similar repository for videos ? Any suggestions who I talk to about the idea ?
Kind regards

Indulgence? It's a lot better than some of the other vids on utube, and you probably made a young kid very proud of his Dad.
Zero-Five-Two
Glad you liked my efforts
Youngster can't get enough of the truck and has asked me to make sure we still have it when he is 17 so that he can drive :drive:it about ! I picked him up from school in it recently, and he loved showing about 15 of his friends around it

Guys (please forgive the indulgence, but)
At the weekend my 9 year son and I were looking at videos of CCKWs on U-Tube, when, yes you guessed it...
"Dad, why don't we make a video of our truck and put it on U-Tube?"
So on a windy, but sunny Sunday here in the UK, I we took some footage which I stitched together (using Windows Moviemaker) and uploaded last night.
Kind regards to all

Thanks for your thoughts. Given your advise and the combination of available time and finance, I'm leaning towards the trying to kill the rust or at least slowing it right down option. I hadn't heard of Vactan or Fertan. I shall look into them. Glad you like the truck and the little video![:)](<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/smile.png)
