  1. Hi everybody,

I do apologise if this has been mentioned before, today on a visit to the Anson engine museum I found a Daimler sleeve valve engine from a mark IV WW1 tank.

It was in an amazing condition, most probably new and unused, it was rumoured to have been taken to the USA during WW1 to be evaluated for manufacture there and it later went to the Ford museum.

It came back a couple of years ago and will be restored to running condition to be part of a WW1 display.

  2. Hi Cel,

you have done some great work there, keep at it, just a small bit of advice from experience restoring old engine's, keep the old spark plugs with the engine but use new plugs in the engine, the old plugs cause more trouble than they are worth.

    Looking forward to more photo's.

  3. Good evening gentlemen,

I would consider fitting a steel plate ring under the bolts and then rivet together or add intermittent "stitch" welds around its OD, just to strengthen the original material and dissipate the load.

I would also like to thank you for such an interesting restoration thread.

  4. Evenin gents,

what a great piece of engineering to work on, can you tell me how the "roller" looking piece is fitted into the alloy/zinc yoke, I can't see any split or loose shaft, also will you have to get the weight of the new fab the same along with spring tension for the correct governer effect ?
