That's too bad Adrian, thank you for the reply though. Sepp I am working on an M4A3...I can see where on the hull the strips were mounted but not the thickness or width of them

Congratulations! Do you know much about its history or in service life?

What a stunning video, things like this help to re-invigorate me, uninitiated people always ask the same question...what are you going to do with your tanks when they are complete....I am just going to refer them to this video and say..."that's what I'm going to do!"

Personally the "Panther" I am going to try and create will be a replica, albeit with some genuine parts, but it will never be anything more than that. And that gives me a lot of latitude in its construction, the hull and turret will only be thick enough to avoid having to use an inner structure or framework which gives that "movie prop" look. The rest, well we will see, the Russian fellows who built the stunning Tiger 1 replica a few years back came up with an interesting coil spring suspension system...so the fact it is not a "restoration" will allow some real creativity

Just a note to let everyone know, restoration of M4A3E2#73 is slated to begin this July, there will be a dedicated web site and Facebook page to follow the restoration progress.

Absolutely inspirational work, that gun is a work of art!

Malcolm another thing I thought I should mention is that when we first got the tank running, we had the idle set too high, this also made gear changes tough. Once we had the thing running smooth and we lowered the idle to spec it was much easier to accomplish gear changes.

Hi Malcolm
ours has a very low first gear and usually, unless loading or unloading from a trailer or negotiating really tough terrain, I use 2nd to start off in as well. Yes they can be quite the beasts to drive, not a wonder the Israeli's re-powered them with the Detroit 8V92 and Allison cross-drive from the M109 series, we obtained a great running M109 powerpack from MCB Pendleton and were seriously considering the retro-fit. But so far we have managed to keep the old girl original so I guess once we run out of engines and transmissions we will have to consider it...What does your DsHk run off of? Is it a gas gun or blanks? Sure looked impressive!

Saw the videos of it at Aquino, looked great slogging through the mud! How did the coolant leak repair go Malcolm?

Always amazes me the conditions these guys operate in, wonder if I could send mine in for a tune-up!

Here in Canada, I have been collecting as many original parts as I can find/afford, but they will all be hung on a replica turret and hull...
-
Fantastic! Please tell us who are not in the loop, the rest of the story!

Good for them, a lofty goal for sure but I sure support their dream...tilting at a Panther tank windmill of my own...Good Luck Panzer Farm!

Checked my Iraqi bring back tank...was going to give up when I found a small slip of paper in the last external fuel tank....appears to be an I.O.U from Tony Blair....anyone have his number? I would like him to make good on my purloined gold

check out this thread, unlike the Chinese ones that Staman sells, these ones appear to have the correct pitch to them like the originals, I am going to order a few links and check them out but these are the ones I am currently leaning toward.
