I can see that the snow thread is picking up speed again, which means snow in Britain. I said it before and will say it again now, there's nothing peculiar about snow! We have snow almost half the year! :-)
By the way, have you seen the x-mas tree on Trafalgar Square? You know it from Norway, right? Do you know why? And why it's the 60th time there's a tree from Norway there? Ever since the end of the war the Norwegian people have given Britain a x-mas tree as a thank for the help during the war. British troops first fought German forces in Norway, The royal family stayed in Britain during the war, Norwegian forces trained and were equipped in Britain and the list goes on... Anyway, Thank you!
Back in the early days of tis forum Jack had a great report of a trip into the woods, that he made with his son. Enjoying the off road capabilities of our vehicles rather than the history (this time), I'd like to share a few photos from this years x-mas tree hunt.

We finally found some decent cover from the GMC.
Now it may sleep until spring.

The biggest problem so far was that one of the wheel nuts was stuck and I mean REALLY stuck.
But finally it's off...
If in doubt, it's the one on the right hand side. :-)

A last update of this year's work on the GMC.

The reason these wartime items show up might be that the national defense museum is getting rid of surplus items.

At a auction at Hovemoen, Lillehammer there's several ww2 on the list. Items such as GMC, Jeep and a couple of Dodge engines. Various item for weasel also. Axle for Dodge. You gotta wonder from what closet the army dragged these items, and are there any more? :-)
Other items are somewhat newer and looks like civil defense equipment like fire hoses and pumps. Even a few Polaris Bigboss, but these are sold only to dealers that will sell them outside Norway.

Looks like a Steyr RSO chassis, quite rare though a cab will not be easy to find.

At the meeting at Moane this year there were ww2 trailers for sale. This is american property being sold to the members of the historic military vehicles socity of Norway. All trailers sold with end user agreements, which means they're not to be sold to others after. The agreement also states that the club is co-owner of the trailers and that the owners have to remain mebers as long as they have the trailers. This is pretty much the same as with the M6 trucks sold earlier. I believe this was the third of these sales. Trailers in all kind of condition.

On 17. September 16 Lancasters took off from Yagodnik airfield in Russia at 19.21,to return to Lossiemouth . Probably due to engine trouble, one Lancaster crashed at this hillside in Nesbyen at 02.15. (Pilot) F/O Frank Levy. (Nav.)F/O Charles Lawrence Fox. Sgt. Flt. (Engr.)Peter William Groom. Flt. Sgt. (W.Op./Air Gnr.)George Muir Mcguire. Pilot Offr. (Air Gnr.)Allan Frank Mcnally. Flt.Sgt.Air Bomber Eric Edward Stephen Peck. Flt.Sgt.(Air Gnr.)Daniel Gorowny Thomas. In addition two members of another crew, who had days before survived a crash landing that had written off their aircraft. Those two are:Flying Offr. (W.Op.)Denis Charles Shea and Flying Offr. (Flt. Engr.)James Frazer Naylor. There was also a tenth body found at the crash site. His name is still unknown.(maby he was an Russian refugee?) This crash was the only casualty of the attacks on Tirpitz in September 1944

While on a familiy trip I persuaded the gang to stop by at a small museum in Bagn, Norway. Not a very big place, but I'd heard that they had a small collection of ww2 things. Bagn was one of the few places that the unprepared norwegian forces put up a good fight. Actually stopped the germans, for a while. A young girl showed us the collection, and I must say that I was impressed by the collection. The girl understood that I probably knew more about this than she did, so instead of wasting time she found the telephone number for the guy who collected all these things. She said that he usually wasn't too busy, so I'd just give him a call next time in the area. On my way out she handed me a free gift, a postcard showing the place the battle took place.

I borrowed a cabin from a friend at it turned out to be just a km from the crash site of a Lancaster. The Lancaster was one of 16 that flew from Russia to Scotland on september 17th 1944. This one probably had engine failure and crashed into a mountain called "Syningen". All were killed and are now buried at Nesbyen cemetary.

A swedish Spitfire crashed at a norwegian airport the day before it was supposed to fly at a airshow. The experienced pilot was killed. The plane tipped over at landing.

Well, too bad about both pilot and plane.

Stutzpunkt Nord, Denmark, May 20th - 22nd 2011

Within a day the danish city of Fredrikshavn was both invaded and liberated. The event "Stutzpunkt Nord" showed the invasion, followed by the everyday life in the city, then moved on to the fort located on the hills outside the city. At the fort constructed by the german army during the war, we saw german troops being inspected by Rommel and planes flying over the fort while the air raid sirens screamed. At the end the allied forces showed up and the liberated danes celebrated. This is one of the better events I've been to.
