This may help re the use of paint to mark Water cans and other kit... My local regiment, The Royal Yorkshire Regiment, uses the following colours to identify kit at Company level. Not sure if it's standard across all companies/squadrons... A Company red B Company green C Company black D Company yellow HQ Company blue This is a page from the Regimental handbook -

Hi Clive Here's the other one; it looks like it was painted yellow then over-painted in red. It also has a vehicle registration number on the side and partially on the top. -

Hi Clive I have two cans, but only have a pic of one for now... first photo has a blue panel and 180 in white paint on the top (Tasha is my daughters horse...I use the water cans for that) My other has more markings incl a vehicle number...will add pics tomorrow. The second and third pic I found online some time ago...it's got a blue panel under the handle and a square patch on the side. I remember when i was a CQMS, we painted a coloured panel on pretty much everything...colour depending on the Company. If it could be carried away, it was painted -

Thanks everybody; some really useful info there. I have two...one with blue paint and one with red. I know it relates to the Coy/Sqdn...but what are the other colours and which Coy/Sqdn do they relate to? -
Hi all Does anyone have an idea when the 'Modern' British Army 20Ltr Water Can was introduced? Also - when did the short lived green version start being made and for how long? Any pertinent info on the Can's would be appreciated...maker, proper nomenclature etc? Thanks in advance. Smudge

Hi all Having looked at photos I don't think the boxes are 81mm...any help identifying them would be appreciated? Thanks Smudge

Hi chaps I'm researching Falklands Scimitar and Scorpions and they all have extra stowage in the form of Rarden ammo boxes and/or 81mm ammo boxes. Does anyone have these boxes please? I'm after good photo's and accurate measurements? Thanks for any help in advance. Cheers Smudge

Thanks John. That's great exactly what I needed. A CD would be great too...or if easier you could send a file by WeTransfer...it's free to do so? Ta. Smudge PS...Darrell...thanks but I just needed the info and a photo or two. Cheers

I'm after info on the eight foot tow ropes sometimes seen on the front of CVRT's. Am I right in thinking these are not the same as the kinetic energy ropes? I found this pic below I reckon they are eight foot ropes, and as I understand it the recovery process involves 2 x eight foot ropes and 1 x 30 foot kinetic rope? The kinetic rope is normally carried on one troop vehicle or a Samson? If I'm correct what is the proper nomenclature for the ropes below? Anyone have any good pictures of the tow ropes on your vehicles? Any pics of the 30' KER? A few questions there, thanks in anticipation for any help. Finally; does anyone have a Scorpion/Scimitar CES I can beg for, especially the section on 'vehicle loose items'? Cheers Smudge

Thanks Diana That's helpful ta. Smudge -
Hi chaps Any idea when the early BCF fire extinguisher on the left hull side (I.E. on this Blues and Royals Scorpion from 1973) was replaced by the Swordsman type and was the early one plumbed into the engine compartment also? Thanks in advance Smudge

Bedford QLD early and later versions?.
martynsmith replied to martynsmith's topic in British Vehicles
Hi John Thanks for the help. Just a question on your dad's 1941 QL. I was told that the mudguard strengtheners were added late on maybe as late as 1944, or post war? Could your dad's have been restored using newer mudguards? I can see what you mean about the radiator grill Cheers Martyn -
Hi all Can anyone tell me what the interior colours were for the QLR? Thanks Martyn

Hi all I have heard that the Bedford QLD came in early and late versions can anyone point out the major differances to a layman please? When was the switch from early to late models? Did some have wooden cargo beds or were they all sheet steel? Did they all have the tray for the gas detector paint in front of the driver or was this feature phased out and if so when? What were the common lighting arrangements? In anticipation, thanks Martyn
