  1. No probs Cris we must get together and sort some visits to these places for next year. I will give you a ring later Have you a land line rather than mobile? Just PM me and I will ring. How far is it to walk to get to the trench system?. I think the Bulford trenchs would be the best as this is not to far from the camp site if we get permission to camp there again. Spoke to Bob at Westdown monday and as far as he know there were no complaints from Joe public about us being there. Even the Ramblers said nothing about there dusting. I did try to book for next year but I was told to hold fire as a new commandant will be takeing up the post this year ad will have to wait and see what his feeling are about such events. There is a plan B which I will let you know about when I speak to you later. If you have any idears about next year give me a shout and we can sort it out. This year was just a taster of things to come.

    Speak to ya soon

  2. Yes Cris, I too have lived here all my life and I am well aware of the rules.

Do you know where the WW1 trenches are as I would like to take the lads there next year, if the visit goes ahead?

Looking at your picture - can't remember any of the tracks, byways and highways being in that bad condition

I would be real carefull when out on the ranges. I can tell you that if you get cought anywhere were you shouldent be IE of the normal track you can exspect one hell of a fine and posibly have your landy taken away and crushed. If you speak to any of the land or range wardens they will tell you the same thing. Salisbury Plain has over 2500 ancient monuments and all protected by law. Please be carefull when you are out there, I have being useing the ranges for 20+ years and have seen so many accedents by folk that think it is a play ground. 3 years ago a 5 year old girl was killed by a reckless moto crosser thinking that the ranges belonged to him with no reguard for any one else. The next time I see Chris Moore I will get him to send me some of the accedent reports he has had to deal with, its not good reading. Also you must remember that there are some nasty vehicles up there rangeing from Land rovers, Large truck and 70 tonne Challengers. These things can apair from know where and catch you right of guard.

Stay safe and keep hold of your Landies. If the Army have there way the ranges would be closed to all and that means Classic military vehicle. This is not a Sabre rattle just trying to protect something speical.

  4. Not stopped raining over here for two days mate, the ranges are totally flooded. Went to the Busterd today and the campsite is under water. We picked the right weekend for the visit for sure. Let you know what folk would like, just wondering wether you do our sizes XXXXXXXL or in our terms YFBs let you work that one out. :dunno:

  5. Not me snoring cos I never got a wink of sleep all night. the snoring was to loud to sleep. Just when you thought is was quite enough to drop off the Crows started :banghead:

Next year it will be conpolsary to bring

    1. ear plugs

    2. shot gun for crows, if that fells then plan B TNT

    3. chewie bone for that bluddy dog

Have I missed anything, O ye soomthing for horse flys, Ants and that thing that was crawling up the inside of my tent.

    :shocking:

  6. Nice article Jack got it spot on old chap. Did you keep a log or have you got a photogrphic memory?

Can I just say that Dave and Dougys vehicles are FV432 & FV434 not AV. Thought I should say something before Dave smacks you around the back of the legs with a wet fish. Dave seams to know alot about fish .

What are the dates for Kemble? we will be there for the day, not sleeping in that tent again.

  7. Cool to see you on board Cris

It was the new land warden that stuck the spanner in the works, he has now been demoted to sh*thouse attendant

At the end of the day Steve was only doing his job. The big cheese that turned up was the RSO ( Range Safety Officer ).

I rang Bob Burgess today at Westdown camp and he is still a bit bemused with the whole incident.

After all the hickups early on the rest of the weekend went off with no other probs apart from me not packing my sleeping bag and freezing my chadds of all night, but im a man I can handle it NOT.

Like Ash said what with rain inbound I think we timed it smack on. It rained most of monday morning with some heavy down pours. Good time was had by all with no break downs apart from me and Yogi having a nervous break down Saturday morning. All the guys at plain Military says hello

  8. Your welcome Dougy glad you got home safe, did Dave get back OK? Pete has not stopped talking about his ride in your FV432 all day. One of the young lads got in the front before Yogi and ajusted the seat with out him noticing.

Thanks for making the trip and hope to see you all next year. You never know we may be poping over to Kemble for the day.

  9. Your welcome Rambo hope to see you all next year. We are starting work on it as soon as I get all the dust out of my eyes, ears and places you don't want to know about.

Thank you for coming. Pete and Yogi would like fairy cakes and I will have one of those big chocie cakes you had. The danceing girls are booked. :yay: :yay: :yay: :yay:

  10. Morning all, Hope you all slept well ? I did. I would have posted the pics here but don't know how to.

The first picture is yogi trying to put the fire out that started Saturday afternoon and went on through the night. Very sorry to the poor jogger in the second pic but it was funny. She must be crapping breeze blocks today.

You can find some of the pictures here with lots more to follow. Thanks again to all that came. We will be organising next years vist very soon

so more of you can come

  11. The plan of attack is, as this weekend is for you guys you decide what you would like to do. If everyone is in and tented up with enough time left then we could go for a trott out Saturday. If you prefur to go in the pub and have a swift half then let it be. If we do go for a drive we will keep to the west side, it will be easyer for any late arrivals finding us. Sunday could be a early start but we can talk about that when you all get here. The main drive will be Sunday but I have been informed there is a chance of a passing shower so dont for get your coats. It can get very cold on the ranges at night so again please bring your coat.

I think we have enough headache tabblets to keep us going for the week end but do bring some insect repelent as I found out to my cost Wednesday night. Two horse fly bites on the same arm hurts. I have just got in from the docs who has put me on antibiotics all weekend, so if I wanted to drink that is totaly out the question now. Like I say this weekend is for you guy and you chose what you would like to do.

PS anyone for mud wrestling if it rains

    see you all soon

    Tony

  12. Hi all,

Are we all still up for the Salisbury Plain visit? I will be posting a contact number tomorrow night just in case you need it.

I've not forgotten - are there any non-meateaters among us? We will be going to the local supermarket Friday to get the grubb for the BBQ.

Looks as if the weather is going to be good for us and with a bit of luck, all the crows nesting next to our camp site will keep quiet Sunday morning.

Hope to see you all very soon!

    Tony

  13. Im starting to get nervous :shake: I just hope you guy enjoy yourselves when you get here. We are going to give the camp site one more cut and then sort out some grubb for the weekend. The land lord is gearing him self up as is the locals. Lets all pray for NO rain on the weekend but maybe a bit Thursday or Friday just to keep the dust down. See you all very soon.

    Tony

  14. OOF thats still a bit steep, May have to get some sort of club up together and try to persued the MOD to give us one before they send them to the wreckers. We have plenty of Army camps around here, they must have old kit kicking around that they no longer need. I can still remember back in 91 / 92 when the old tank sheds at Lugdershall Wilts was stuffed full of old vehicles. I wounder if any of them ended up in privite hands. There was tonnes of it, Foxs, FV432s, Ferrets and much much more. I do know some of the Chieftains ended up up north.

  15. Chris

How must is a CVR(T) worth scrap value? Why I ask is I have some where that they could be stored. I would love to have one of each for static desplay perposses. As you said, its better to store them than have the hell shot out of them on some firing range. Withams ask far to much for me to afford.
