  1. Hi there, well i did make an introduction when i joined as you are expected. WelL again, i am keith fox from st. Helens england. I am a car enthusiast with an interest mainly in the jeep. I am 48 and married to a filipina. My father was born in 1924 and served in the british royal nave during ww2. He was a radio opperator and saw service in the english channel, the atlantic, the pacific and in the med. He was also seconded to HMSC Puncher as the canadian navy was short of radio operators and was based from what i have been told from nova scotia. My enquiry relates to my interest in his history, to find out if he was entitled to a service medal from the canadian navy. I do hope this cleares up any missing details. His name is austin fox with a british service number of D/JX424051
  2. My father was seconded to the canadian navy during ww2 to serve on HMCS Puncher in the Atlantic as a wirles opperator, does anyone know if that entitles him to any Canadian service medals???
  3. Wel, i am no jeep expert but,,, a jeep wheel just like any other car must be in ballance or it will shake you to death. When you weld something it efects the metal at an atomic leavel afecting the structure and properties of the steel, to do the job propily you would fitstly have to overcome the acurate machineing process to get it perfectly corect, then it would need to be anealed to releive any stresses caused by the heat put on the heat efected zone surrounding the welds, or just buy some repos, or maybe just grab some off that cheep jeep in lytham hehehe
  4. Service number D/424015 Austin Fox of Southey Road St. Helens
  5. Radio operator in royal navy, MTB with service as far as i know that covered english channel, visiting the philippines and secondment with canadian navy as they were short of radio operayor. I have asked my mother to try to get as much information as possible when his mind is all there
  6. I am looking for information about my fathers service record. He served in the navy during ww2. As i get older i have become more interested in milatary history but unfortunately my father has become senile so too difficult to obtain information from him. Can anyone please inform me were information can be found relating to naval service men from ww2. many thanks
  7. Is there any one out there know what bonnet is fitted to a composate body. The rear end is Willys and the front end is Ford, does that mean it would have a Ford bonnet???? or does a Willys have a Willys and a Ford have a Ford
  8. Many hhanks for your coment, perhaps it is as previously mentioned, a longer TRS shackel is needed if thespring set isnot correct. Or if it were possible to design and manufacture a set of adjustable TRS shackels, that way as the set is lost from a spring and a jeep starts to lean the shackel could be adjusted to prevent the lean, it is not rocket science i am sure some bright person with manufacturing facilities could come up with an adjustable shackel
  9. Thanks for all the coments, this jeep is up for sale and looks like a very nice restoration. This spring does cause reason for concern tho. So the bottom line would you purchase a car with a spring like this. Is it a bodge up or a simple and clever solution to a common problem. Many thanks for all the constructive coments
  10. Not quite so simple, if you take a torch to spring steel you will alter its properties, it has to be heated and tempered once you have altered its shape. Perhaps easier to just take it to a spring manufacturer with some alteration dimentions and they will easily modify it for you
  11. can anyone out there coment on this strange shaped spring
  12. Could it be a Rolls-Royce 40/50 ghost. hard to tell but looking at the rear axel cross support it is of the same design they used, same shape of front also!!!
  13. the jeepney over there seem now to made from stainless steel body with a rather crude ladder frame chassis. i suppose these escaped the conversion process. there is a couple of not too bad ones there at good prices if they are genuine
  14. some pictures of jeeps i found for sale on a philippine internet site Ranging from PHP98000 ( £1481 for the M151A2) to PHP350000 ( £5113 for the willys). as far as i know they are all still available 6 in total (curent exchange rate £1 = PHP68 )
  15. The jeeps are being advertised as a 1941 ????? willys and a 1951 m35, there is also an other picture put in there by mistake from an earlier find. I have emailed the man telling it seems to be a mix of various cars from different times. There also seems to me to be a different gear stick, perhaps a different gearbox/transmition??? It appears to have a ford chassis but a willys body. Does anyone know what model had WILLYS stamped on to the dashboard. His price now stands at PHP180,000 (£2750) at the present exchange rate, think i will keep looking. comments always welcome. many thanks. keith
  16. There is a few things that perplex me, it looks like a ford chasis with the large hole at the front end of the chassis rail. Also it has a rivet that can be clearly seen under the grill mounting point. I can see there is a willys stamping on the dashboard and not too sure what model had that on it. Then there is the brass edging strip around the edge of the dash, please any further comments welcome. I have been offered this car for PHP200,000 open to offers ( about £3000 ) looks like a collecton of bits to me
  17. My brother in law found these two jeps in the philippines, i would welcome any coments on them as i am looking to have a jeep over there for when i move there
  18. Many thanks for those comments, i am trying to get more close up pictures of the second jeep and also i have my three brother in law and my father in law all looking in different places for me. They are looking in Cebu and Negros. Hopefully i will find some more and post pictures for any comments. I am new to the "jeep" so all comments welcome
  19. found another in Cebu. any thoughts on this one
  20. Please accept my introduction on to this forum. In essance i am a car enthusiast but also have a keen interest in history. I am mechanical engineer with a life time of experience with restoration work mainly with cars and various antiques. At one period of my life i was employed at a restoration firm working on the restoration of Rolls-Royce and Bentley motor cars. My main interest in this site lies with Jeeps and Ferrets. I am also interested in the venues that occur around the country. At present i do not have any millitary vehicles as i have a Morgan but hopefully i will obtain a jeep in the near future. I am married with a filipina therefore my brother in law is looking for a jeep in the Phillipines for me to use when i am there with the possibility of bringing it home to england
  21. As a new member and car enthusiast I decided I wanted to aquire a jeep. As I have family connections in Cebu Philippines I decided that I might find a bargain there. I have been sent pictures of an available car but it was known there as a Mc Arthur jeep. Some of the pictures clearly show jeep components but is looks like a mixture of different vehicles. The aquisition of a jeep was to use there in the mountains whilst there for some fun but i am also a keen car enthusiast. I would appreciate any thoughts on the subject. The owner wants PHP 50,000 but i have not even started to negotiate yet as my brother in law is still looking for a better car for me
