Unless Bob is just for off road use, it is illegal to fit cross ply and radial tyres on the same axle or to fit cross ply tyres on the rear axle with radial tyres on the front axle.

Thanks for the reminder, I was aware thats why I mentioned it as if some one has 4 radials or two cross plys I am sorted, you never know some one might have two cross plays and want a radial?

I can believe how difficult they are to find, all the ones on Ebay etc are down south?

Found loads of metric ones but it wouldn't be quite right.

So why shouldn't you mix them? I know Cross plays have stronger walls?

  2. My Son has bought an old series 2 Land Rover, the tyres have had it we have found three locally just need two more if any one has a full set or just two and are local to the North west let me know.

We have three cross plays and one Avon Radial so just need to make a usable set of 5 with or without wheels.

We are also looking for a series 2 front end to put Bob back to how he should be, hops for his canvas and doors even tatty ones to fit whilst we repair the current ones

  3. Winchboy has bought a series 2a truck cab. He has the rear canvas but no sticks etc for it, he wants to make a set as being an apprentice he should be able to and he has very little spare cash as he needs 5 tyres!

So has any one a set they could measure?

How would you clean the canvas? Should we stare proof it Fabsil as we have some?

  4. Welcome.

I am sure some one will be able to point you in the right direction, my son has a 34 Model A and a forum member has found parts for him so give it a few weeks as many people don't visit every day.

Whats up with the crank shaft as I am certain it would be able to be repaired / re manufactured.

My forks are back from the engineer and have been extended by 1" and I'm in the process of re-painting them.

The petrol tank that I'm using is from a pre war hand change model D, and although it is the same shape and size, there are some differences to attend to.

The rear mounting is different and there is only one petrol tap with balance pipe. I have made suitable brackets. Two petrol tap adaptors will have to be welded in, in the correct location. I will simply plug the obsolete tap and balance tube holes. Ron

I don't suppose your donor tank had the hand change bracket? Ours is missing from a Model A but they look to be the same but we cant find one i the flesh to  copy

  6. Hello Looking for parts to get a 36 Royal Enfield model A back on the road, its my son's bike, he wanted a 20's or 30's bike but being an apprentice couldn't afford a complete running one so he has loads of enthusiasm but not much cash, so what cant be bought used will have to be made. Not bothered about accuracy as long as they look period, need, wheels, mudguards, lights fork parts, Exhaust, mag dynamo no doubt lots of little odds and ends. Wheels really any period 19" rims with drum brakes just to get it back on the road. Basically we have the frame, engine and gear box, bars, seat, mudguard brackets, tank but no fuel tap. Any info gratefully received

He is also struggling to get the gear box together, we have asked local shops but its too old the one that would do it was very expensive and wouldn't show him.

Its a 3 speed Royal Enfield specific box, not an Albion, we have found many of the 30's Enfileds are the same with just the engine and box different.

  7. I have a couple I am unlikely to use

  8. Its a difficult one really, has it a value in civvy street? I feel the pool of people with the funds to buy things is getting smaller, I would work out what it has cost you and look for any that have sold recently

  9. I bought a job lot of stuff and with it came two what look to be transport boxes for rockets / missiles? I think we got a better deal by taking them as he needed the space.

Just trying to find out more info?

They have desiccant sensors on the side and air pressure release valves, one looks to have the remains of a Lossiemouth sticker?

They are fibreglass very well made, my Son is making one in to a Coffee table!

    Hi Winchman

Use a detachable trailer board as we do on British Airborne trailers, then you can keep the trailer standard.

Thanks I have done in the past but it the weathers ok and its not dark I like to have it original, its not looking good for it at the moment as I am struggling for space so might have to sell it.

  11. Personally I would get the kerb dropped and apply for a garage I am no expert but why would you mention the vehicle type?

I feel it may give some one more to object to, but its just a vehicle and as long as the estate has no covenants on vehicle type / weights I dont see a problem, often the said covenants are never enforced as no one wants to pay the legal costs.

Until recently we had a local bloke with the biggest Zil I have seen in the garden

  12. Can anyone point me to the legal bit?

IE when where these in use? Mines a 1930 Gibson Eccles, we can date it by the Morris Minor wheels as they only did that type from memory 1927-1930 and the catalogue. I have fitted a T but I have been asked why no triangles and would like too give a more exact answer.

The lids rough and its still not finished, but its saved and in regular use

It seems that the socket set is what is known as the  .488"  hex drive range , certainly sold by Britool until late 1960's , probably discontinued abt. 1970

I think  .488"  started as a WW2 range,  1/2" square drive took over as more popular - the ratchets & extensions were more or less identical except for the drive.

We cant find any info on the hex drive?

The tool forum on G503 might identify it.

The lack of chrome suggests WW2, but I'm sure I can see hex drive in there as well as square drive, and that pretty much died out by then.  There's a couple of special twiddly bits in there, so it may well be a specific tool kit for something, but no idea what.

Britool were one of the few UK manufacturers to make 9/32" square drive stuff, presumably on contract for the RAF ( as the USAAC and USAAF used a lot of 9/32" drive stuff on aircraft )

Thanks will see if I can join, he has a 9/32 set but its missing the ratchet, bought from an aircraft engineer who was retiring, he bought it military surplus when he was a teenager with no ratchet it had a Tipco one with a reducer, I have a scan of the Britool catalogue and they sold sets with and with out ratchets
