    I was simply saying that a paper certificate is simply an unneccessary complication, once there is a database of deacs available to the Police.

     

    One could tamper with a deac even with a certificate well kept together with it.....

    A sensible procedure would be, in case of a control, that the Police check if the weapon was legally deac, then, if doubts arise about it having been "reac" then have it inspected.

  2. The proof houses keeping a record of all deacs with make, model and serial so that just a check on the database is needed.... too easy?

  3. The tanks had the guns removed and were disabled, in the post Russian revolution period there was concern that these monuments would give any potential British revolutionaries access to armoured vehicles!

     

    Is the fear of a revolution the reason for the 1920 law that started the abolition of firearms in UK?

  4. Just to make you Brits envyous....

     

    Here in Italy SLRs are classed "Hunting Weapons" and can be had to Sporting Firearms Certificate holders.

     

    They cost around 600-750 Euro.....

     

    There are many short barrelled SLRs on the Itlian market but they had been "bubba-ed" by the importer...

  5. I'd go the "Serious film museum" route.

    Even if you aren't allowed to stay with the film while it is developed you are sure that is in the hands of someone who will treat it with the respect (and expertise) needed by such a piece of history.

     

    BBC history may be interested in making a piece on this (and this may cover the expenses, if any in developing-restoration).

     

    I know that anyone of us when finds some important relic tend to be jealous, but some documents belong to History...

    Love the M12... I shot it a few times during my service...

    You get no markmanship awards with that, but if you have non conventional tagets at the firing range (in my case a FIAT 128) it is a lot of fun!

  7. I rode one of those "sottocanna"(*) motorbikes once.

    It was terrible, really difficult to manovrate, on the racing circuit of Imola, therefore with the smoothest and most regular tarmac I've ever found. d I can only say that there was a pretty high degree of stoicism in those soldiers, riding those motorbikes in deep mud, cold and wet and with someone shooting at them....

    (*) In Italy we tend to put a theshold on the history of motorbikes according to the position of the fuel tank. Early motorbikes had the tank under the frame pipe (hence sottocanna =underpipe) then the fuel tank was "wrapped" up and around the frame pipe. Hipe this makes sense.

  8. I second your observation.

    Despite having sold a 469 and bought a 109" and a 88" (ex -BAOR the latter) I did this just because I was fed up with unavailability of spares.

     

    Performance wise the 469 works better than a Land Rover series... The design is even simpler and in the lenght of an 88" there are five real seats.
