  1. Thanks to everyone who made it a success. It was nice to meet people and put names to faces, and it’s very nice to see all the positive comments being made. The Essex MVT worked hard to make this show a good one, but without the input of you guys, it would be for nothing. There are too many people to thank, but along with all the small individual displays that unpacked from their jeep, Landrover or trucks there are the guys from • Das Heer and Battle for Europe who gave their usual 5 star performances in the arena with firepower displays and on their static displays, • The 7th Cavalry’s excellent Vietnam display, and their off the cuff skirmish, patrolling and good humour, • The guys from the Essex armour and softskins who had large lumps of armour in the arena all day and were the backbone of many arena events, • Jon the Welder with his beer and his crew (including the Holy dog) who are the nicest people you could ever meet, and they just happened to have a Stug with them, (thanks for the ride!) • Luke Hallidays group with the aid post, who gave me a cold beer in 75deg sunshine and will always have a special place in my heart for it… • Derek, the advance unit of the Soviet 13th Guards who is a bloody nice bloke, with a great display. • Dicky from ENSA, who just never seemed to want to stop and sang his heart out and was a big hit with the public • And finally all the people that took vehicles, from a Chindit on a folding Para bike to a Hellcat, that put in the effort and made the show what it was Next year will be bigger and better, and will be held on the 9th and 10th of August, if you want to book in, just drop me a line. Richard Brew.
  2. See you there Chris, :-D What time are you arriving? I wonder what the total tonnage of mud removed from Beltring was.... :shake:
  3. Excellent, are you all up for a bit of showing off in the arena? Richard
  4. Mike Davis' new one. First time as he normally does Bethune.
  5. 150+ vehicles, including a Stug now booked. It's shaping up to be a good show. Its not too late to book! Richard http://www.mvt-essex.org.uk/annual.htm
  6. I'm going! Crewing a Hellcat. can't wait... :-D Richard
  7. MVT Essex Classic Military Vehicle and Vintage Aircraft Show 11th/12th August 2007 - Damyns Hall Airfield near Upminster. Hi all, I just thought it was about time to start bringing The Essex MVT show up again, as it's only a couple of months away. The vehicle bookings are over the hundred mark, and the traders are making a strong showing. It's a huge airfield and there is plenty of room. Just to make it a more memorable occasion than it would be anyway, Saturday night is party night once the MOPs have gone with live entertainment and a DJ, and more importantly a beer tent. Interested in coming along and displaying? ALL era's groups and nationalitys are welcome, as are individuals in uniform. Just follow the link in my signature and fill in the form. Richard http://www.mvt-essex.org.uk/annual.htm
  8. Just in time for the Ste Mere Eglise Mil fair this weekend! Lucky bugger...
  9. Its funny how things are worth fortunes to some and not much to others. My Jeep came with incorrect data plates, someone at some time had just stuck some plates on for the sake of appearances. But they are CDLV505 plates, which probably means as much to you as it did to me. They came from a limited run of Willys jeeps made under a special contract (505) for the Canadian army. Mine are dated April 1st 1942. I asked on the G503 site if they were all that unusual and a rough estimate to thier value and I got flooded with silly offers, one guy would pay me £225 plus a repro set of my choice. I have kept them as a backup incase I ever need a quick bit of cash.... Richard
  10. Thats an interesting fact, I didn't realise that. Did the argies have plenty of equipment? there is an AA gun in the imperial war museum that came from the falklands, did they have heavy stuff to tow it, or were they static, placed by helicopter? Richard
  11. Talking of which, there are (fingers crossed) some Falklands era reenactors coming along with a nice display, anything amongst your members that could be used by them as a static backdrop? hopefully as vehicles get booked in we will be able to borrow one or two correct period Landys, it is after all the 25th of the Falklands, something which I have hardly seen mentioned anywhere. Not popular or glamorous enough I guess.... Rich
  12. 2 weeks at the Ivy house just behind UTAH beach...Cant wait. :shake: http://www.ivyhousefrance.com/ Richard
  13. one good strike, and it will collapse in a mushroom cloud of rust dust...besides its a bit small, last year not one single strike was made on Dave Try's Landy, what we really need is a nice, big shiny bedford :-D Will the E.A and S.S be making a bum freezer type entrance? Richard
  14. MVT Essex Classic Military Vehicle and Vintage Aircraft Show 11th/12th August 2007 - Damyns Hall Airfield near Upminster. This is the return of our annual show. Already planned; military vehicles of all eras, militaria collectors stalls and stalls for all the family, vintage aircraft, flying displays, aircraft and helicopter rides, flour bombing competions open to the public, re-enactment groups and more to come. Interested in coming along and displaying? ALL era's, groups and nationalitys are welcome, as are individuals in uniform, and we are particularly interested in getting as many first war, korea, vietnam and falklands era displays and vehicles on display as we can Click here for more details and all entry forms http://www.mvt-essex.org.uk/annual.htm Richard
  15. The bomb crane is still for sale if anyones interested, it has to go somewhere soon as theres no room for it and it will just end up in a field....
  16. The RAF sold off everything that was not needed in the late '40's and 50's, regardless of its history or age or anything. It was sold to the highest bidder, amongst the things they sold were many historic aircraft (as we see them) spitfires and hurricanes stuck on poles to rot outside airbases were the few survivors, and among those that didn't survive the purge were the dambuster lancs, some had been re converted back to standard spec, and some kept as instructional airframes. Its no different I suppose to us chucking away an old land rover, even if it had been used in the Falklands. Richard
  17. This particular yard was there before WW2 and after the war scrapped many things, the original owners son used to tell us stories of dozens of jeeps each week bought as scrap and broken up for the iron, scrap tanks and truck and planes of all types which yielded all sorts of metals and made good money, busted up and gone forever without a thought for the preservation.... like the story of Guy Gibson’s dambuster Lanc, broken up by a yard somewhere without a thought... Richard
  18. The majority of it has gone in a clear out of the yard, but the crane is still there, and the engine which was a take out is, im sure, about somewhere. All the useful bits went to club members who needed stuff. I remember a few musette bags which had gone rotten and a german gas mask case used a a door prop! all binned I guess. old scrapyards just cant be that way anymore with all the health and safety stuff  I will try and find out definite’s on whats left Richard.
  19. I used to work in a metal yard in Essex, there were 3 jeep grills used as duck boards over a particularly muddy bit, and a Jimmy or GMC engine in its crate in a 20ft container, along with loads of other junk nuts and bolts, bits of folding bike, spanners, gas masks etc up at the far end away from Joe Public. on the roof of the container was a bomb crane for a Jimmy or Chev, rare as hens teeth apparently...Its still there, and its for sale if you ask. Richard
  20. We have got a Willy's chassis, vintage unknown, but in very good nick, no bends kinks or rust. Its possible that someone has done all the hard work, or that its a french army leftover. The only numbers we can find are... · On the top of the very new looking frame horns ‘GD’ · On the top of the nearside rail just behind the front cross-member ‘11037’ · On the top of the offside rail just in front the front cross-member ‘09890’ · On the outside of the offside rail just in front the front cross-member ‘IV 1234’ Anyone got any theories? We are stuck and cant seem to find the answer anywhere. Richard.
