  1. Thank you for replying to my post djwalker. To be honest it's rather handy as I had to stop working on the project due to ill health, but I'm intending making a start again soon. I really do need to get the winch in the chassis so any help would be gratefully received. A copy of the fitting instructions for the winch would be helpful as it would give the correct positions for drilling the holes in the chassis. Also I still need the winch to PTO prop shaft. I would still like to look at the recovery version, I could take a load of measurements and photographs.
  2. You could change to a Defender timing chest, give you a bit more clearance and you wouldn't need to cut the cab about. Be quite interesting to see how the 200 fairs in the Fordson.
  3. Like to say thank you to Butch for letting me look at his RL today, very helpful, there are differences between the two versions, would still like to see the RL recovery version FV13115 but it's given me an idea how it fits in and the other bits I need for my truck now.
  4. The pics of what I've got.:nut:
  5. I managed to pick up the PTO for my RL, I did intend mounting the Garwood winch I have in the chassis at the rear like the New Zealand RLs I'd seen on the net but the chap I got the PTO from had nearly all the belly winch set up from the RL recovery truck. I've noticed while I've been doing some research that the GS winch truck feeds the cable down the drivers side of the chassis but the recovery version feeds down the passenger side of the chassis. Out of interest does anyone know why this was? I wonder is somebody would be kind enough to furnish me with some pictures of the positions of the rollers and guides on the side of the chassis from the recovery RL as mine will not have any of the holes in the chassis to bolt them to. I would also be grateful if somebody has some pics of the winch in the chassis so I can work out it's position and mounting points for the various bits. I know I haven't got the prop from the PTO to the winch, the rear fairleads and cable guides (the recovery version would be no good so I'm looking for the standard GS ones). Also is there an extra cross member between the transfer box and the back of the winch, is there a guide roller between the winch and the rear fairlead assembly like on the QL? If anybody knows where there is a complete vehicle I could look at, which isn't too far away from Lowestoft, Suffolk it would be nice to have a look myself and do some measuring. I'll try and get some pics of what I've got. Do the two versions both use the same winch? Cheers Adam

The scary thing is, these are sold in the states for home defence, obviously in some states you cannot have full auto. Apparently they are becoming very popular with the American police but that makes sense as well as most criminals like the AK as a fashion accessory.

Here's the link to the web site, they're so cheap. http://www.dsarms.com/
  8. I've always been a bit of a fan of the L1A1 SLR and our friends across the pond must be as well as they've given it a bit of a re-vamp, watch the video to the end it's quite good.
  9. Cheers for the pics, at least I've got a better idea of what I've got to make
  10. If you're thinking of changing the body and it's not too bad I'd be interested in buying it. Do you know which engine it is? Any chance of any photographs? Last year there was a QL which had been converted to Cummins and had a camper body built in the rear on ebay, is this it?
  11. I reckon you're right, the lever is in the right place, could do with a decent picture of the winch on the back of the dukw. I was watching my beach recovery video today but couldn't get a good look, but what I saw looked similar.
  12. This one is it a aircraft re-fueler? http://www.milweb.net/classifieds/large_image.php?ad=56771&cat=4
  13. I reckon it's a Bedford RLHC body used on the AFS pipelayers. I better picture of the headboard would confirm it. Nice QL though, better nick than mine.
  14. I'd be happy with £5 per camera if they had the lot, I'll photograph the Aircraft camera for you at the weekend.
  15. Unfortunately I haven't got the time to do that, it would most probably take 4-5 shows if you're luck to get rid of them all. Pity about your collection though, did you have new for old insurance?
  16. That's what I thought Tony, there's the steering column as well but there's not much else as most things were removed by the previous owner. I think I'll strip it, cabrolet QL!!:nut:
  17. Changed the list to PDF and have now attached. Camera list 2.pdf
  18. I have a list that I completed in 2007 but it hasn't been updated with a few I have bought more recently. As soon as I can work out how to attach it, it's an excel file if anyone can help.
  19. I have approximately 300 assorted cameras of all types and to be honest I would rather have some money to spend on my vehicles, but I'm not sure of the best way to dispose of them.. We tried ebay as a collection but only got dealers who wanted to split them up and give me £5, apparently he was doing me a favour he was only buying the rubbish that would never sell, I told him to bu**er off. So how do I get rid of them? It would make a nice exibit somewhere but most museums would want me to donate them, which would be nice but wouldn't get the trucks done.
  20. Do I have to remove the cab to remove the engine?
  21. Any chance of an end on photograph, can't quite see if it's a channel or if it's a piece of flat bar with channel on the back to get the lip to attach the rubber too. I take it the flat front edge is slightly curved. Any chance of a close up photograph of the head lights and side lights so I know what I'm looking for and rough diameters of lenses? (so if I can't find original ones at least I can find a set that will look right).
  22. It's very close, couldn't see the ring of holes in the end of the drum and the lever is on but as I said this could have been changed. But if I end up using it and not using the lever I will let you know as it will need to be operated from the back of the truck.
  23. Yeah he's bought that QL that was kicking around last year in the mags for under £1000, if I remember rightly the chap couldn't sell it because the cab was completely rotten, it was a recovery truck. I don't think he's going to want to break it for parts, not at £2500.
