  1. Barry,

I had a similar problem with mine. Have you replaced the accelerator diaphragm?

Mine had an almost invisible hole near the centre, allowing fuel to go straight into the air intake, leading to a very rich mixture.

Changed it and it runs fine now.

    Doug

Thanks very much Doug,it's something havn't looked at although did strip carb down but never touched that.

    Cheers mate.

  2. Definately worth a look, thats the diaphragm for the accellerator pump (gives an extra squirt when you boot the throttle), if that diaphragm has failed then fuel will dribble into the manifold.

Another one to watch is the distributor and wear in the distributor bushes. Points gap set up fine but when in use the shaft may be rotating eccentrically. Give it a good wiggle to check for wear and double-check final setting with a dwell meter if you have one.

    My tuppenceworth anyway...

    Alec.

Many thanks for that Alec, will have a look at it tomorrow.

  3. Hi....wondered if anyone can throw some light here ! My Hotchkiss running rough...changed coil, condenser, plugs, points, fuel pump.Stripped carb (no wear and blown out)...plugs are sooty but maybe cos can't run her for long on road.

Am i right in saying there is no running mixture adj on carb only idle ?

I know this could be a hundred and one things, but maybe someone will hit on somethin i not thought about yet.

    Thanks all for your help

    Barry

  4. Please could anyone throw some light or spot something i havn't.

Had lots of vehicles over the years and do all my own stuff but this has got me beat.

First signs were...started to smoke while out on a run and eventually came to a stop.

The oil was very thin and i always use the best and had not done many miles since change.

Did comp test on all 4 and around 110.Changed plugs, cond, points.Fitted new oil pump cos not 100 % about pressure.Good spark on all 4,took off head to check valves and general cond...all seemed fine. She will not fire and have towed her too.

Any ideas would be very welcome.....many many thanks.

    Barry.

  5. Hello,my name is Barry,i'm 47 and live in Llangollen,North Wales.

I currently own a Bedford MJ and Hotchkiss Jeep.

Don't get to meet up with too many like minded individuals so have joined here to keep in touch with what's going on.

A few of us meet up at the "Powys & Mid-Wales" MVT group but we are very small !

Am thinking of looking out for some other vehicle soon.....oh dear !!

Anyway, bye for now and see you on the site!

  6. Can anyone help me........can't get Jeep to start.
