  1. one more question, does anyone have any photos showing the rear drop door on a Bedford QLD body? i have one or two fuzzy images which dont match with the drawings i have, and one very clear image but im not sure if its a genuine QLD body on the chassis as it doesnt match the drawings or the other 2 photos. the photos i have show the rear door panel on the body divided into 3 squares, with two long hinge bars at the bottom. but the drawings show the rear door divided into 2 sections with diagonal bracing from the middle bottom up to the top corners, and 3 small hinges at the bottom. anyone know which pattern is correct/most typical? or was it related to one type being on the APT version? many thanks matt
  2. thats interesting, ill do some research. ive got a book at home about the props they used in star wars and indiana jones, and i was under the impression that it was a full size model made in the UK by a light aircraft company especially for the film, although i guess its probably it was based on a real design.
  3. reminiscent (although with jet engines) of the fantasy german flying wing in one of the indiana jones films! interesting find, thanks for posting
  4. email recieved, many thanks for that. i was actually able to visit a lovely QLT up near chelmsford on saturday and was given free reign to climb all over/under it and got all the pics and measurements i needed. so now i just need a few details from a standard QLD body, which oddly seem to be the hardest to find?
  5. yes they seem to be very expensive to run! a little while ago i had to go down to bournemouth airport to do some research on the sea vixen thats based down there. talking to paul the technical director who showed us round the aircraft (they kindly pulled it out of the hanger and took all the covers off and opened the cockpit up for us to get piccies, was a real privilege to get up that close and personal to it- we were allowed to climb up over the cockpit, with the condition "dont touch anything with black and yellow stripes on it!") we got on to the subject of fuel. when "foxy lady" is up they use around 45 litres per minute, but apperently thats dropped from about 56 litres per minute when it had all the military avionics and weapons on board. they spend thousands on fuel every flight. quite staggering when the government are going on at the rest of us to swap our old cars in for newer models to save a few mpg!
  6. Thanks for that tony, give it a year or so and I'll be back for QLR pictures ive just looked through the members list and cant find a user with the name Radar?
  7. Hi all, I'm in need of some high resolution photographs of the Bedford QLT troop carrier 4x4 truck for a modelling project, as I think I have downloaded every single picture on the web but there are some aspects that I cannot find reference materila for, particularly the spare wheel carrier, the machine gun mount on the front of the tilt, and the front of the body behind the cab. If anyone has any decent photos, drawings or knowlege of where I could find a real vehicle to take my own pictures it would be very much appreciated! my email is matt_whiting (at) hotmail .co.uk if anyone would be able to help me out . .. thanks in advance!
  8. haha i'd love to do an explorer or pioneer in one of the bigger scales, they're such impressive vehicles and the smaller scales really dont do them justice. we're trying to concentrate on british vehicles, but the issue is finding models that dont exist in the marketplace at the moment (with exceptions of resin+metal kits which arn't really our market) as spending thousands on a new tool set of something that another manufacturer already makes doesnt make economic sence, unless the existing kit has some major flaws. dont think you can get any of the scamells in 1/35 apart from resin kits tho? a scamell pioneer with the big tank transporter trailer, in 1/35 complete with tank on the back would make an excellent model- as tamiya already do an m26 pacific so this would make a nice british counterpart!
  9. hi guys and thanks for the welcome I've only been at airfix a few weeks now but am already getting into an interesting little military vehicle project, cant say too much about what it is on here as it's not been announced yet. Basically the process involves lots of research of the project vehicle, from books, drawings and ideally a real vehicle from which loads of photos and measurements are taken. These days things are all done in 3D CAD so the new airfix releases are going to be a lot better than the warped, flashy, inaccurate models of old. Once we've got all the info we model it in CAD and split it up into parts, test for fit and assembly using rapid prototype models and work closely with the guys who make the moulds to ensure its as good as it can be. We have some interesting armour projects coming up soon, but of course if theres anything anyone would feel is missing from the market that would make a good model subject then tell me! cheers Matt
  10. Hi everyone, first post here :yay: My name's Matt and I've been reading with great interest all the amazing projects on here so thought I'd post and say Hi! I'm an industrial designer for Airfix (yep i get to make models all day, although mostly the "virtual" sort"). I dont own a HMV (yet!) but hopefully someday!
