  1. RadioMike,

i called smiths and they've asked for some details on the axles and/or diffs. The truck is stored in the South West at the moment so I can't readily check. I wondered if you or anyone else new what the spec was on the daf drops, it's a 91 model.

ive also contacted Dave Crouch, who provided me with an engine previously, he's offered me a set of larger wheels off an AEC mark 3 wrecker, which he thinks will fit and will check but the price is pretty high, although the diffs will be costly too. Which do you think, regardless of price which is the better option? I assume diff exchange due to CofG, clearance etc but as it's all 3 differentials smiths were sceptical on the price to do it but need to check specs first.

    regards

  2. Hi John.

The front springs on the heavy haulage S26 vehicles should have the same springs as the Scammell S24 Part number HDK1541 made by Jonas Woodhead RSR ltd, the front spring Ubolts were made by Skidmore & sons in Walsal Part number NDK3487. The best vehicle to have a look at would be your friend Dave Crouch's S24 4x2 recovery.

I maybe able to get a drawing of the springs if that is any help.

you can give me a call via the number on my website if you need more info.

    regards

  3. The vin on the log book reads SBSM6A37RSLF76698 which is a bit strange as Mark's vin is RSAF ? will check my registration document against the vin plate on Monday to confirm.

    Hi John.

The difference in the VIN numbers between your's and Mark's is A = January & L = December Month of Build.

    Hope that helps.

  4. Hi Paul.

Question. Has the trailer got it's own air Reservoir supply for the trailer brakes.

When the trailer is connected to the Drops, check that your not getting any air leaking from the trailer control valve when you apply the brakes.

Will let you know about the constructor, as i will be going up there this week to do some checks

on the old girl before i go to China. Noddles for Christmas dinner this year.

I've spent most of this year in china and hong kong so need to check the antifreeze and make sure she is ok for the winter, as i won't be back until the new year. ( sometime )£££££££££.

  6. 916083 is NSN 5120-00-422-8972.

    916083 = DAIMLER CHRYSLER number.

I also found another part number 7081490 for US Army Tank Automotive command.

This may not be of much help, but someone may have some old stock lying around and have no idea what the

    Nato number is for.

    Hope this helps.

Tony. can you post the measurements as i have some 8 sided hub nut sockets in the van that may help gas44 get out

of trouble if he can't find one to purchase.

  7. Hi Clive,

Thats what I like, thinking outside the box !!! I had not given any thought as what size it may be I just assumed (wrongly I exspect) that it was a Dodge specific tool. Not sure why I thought that (plonker)

So does anybody know what size box spanner is needed ?

Thankyou Clive for turning on the light ;);).

    Gary

    Hi Gary.

If you can find the size. I can have a look to see if i have one in the van that you can borrow.
