1. Reguardless of the obvious H&S stuff, does anyone know why he lost so much power? I was wondering if it was of the amount of dust that he kicked up?
    .....

I managed to 'stumble upon', a you tube video of his 'copter, taken I think after it's 'restoration'...... and whilst running it up he switched magnetos, and the engine cut out.... so maybe he has ignition problems...... I'll try and relocate the video and post a link....

  2. We picked up some of these boxes and seem quite rugged...

May buy another 10 to hide stuff in :D

How much were they? and where from?...... I could do with a few!:-D

  3. I know, Montie!... bleedin'n wonderful, aint it!.... I think the open-topped saracens were initially bound for your neck of the woods, they're mentioned in the book, 'The Saracen Family', which by the way, if you don't yet have, is an absolute MUST buy, for any self-respecting Saracen nut!....lol:cool2:

  4. Where did you find that Oily? Rather fancy one myself:)

Hi, mate.....My l'il Green Buggy, is an N.C.F. Blitz2, and actually a kit-car, I found it on eBay,I paid £1850, for mine. After having planned to build one a few years earlier,...this turned up ready-built, and MOT'd etc.... They still turn up now and then on eBay, (in fact I believe there are a couple on there now....)... really you ought to try and find one that's already on the road, as the new Kit-car test (I.V.A.) is a little bit costly.

The basic kit is around £900 or so, and you then gut a couple of old mini's or MGF's or whichever version you decide to build, for the relavant bits to make it go and stop etc.

2 Companies market it in this country:N.C.F.Motors, -(The original guys to have manufacturing rights to the frame design), or, 'Blitzworld', who also market updated versions using K-Series engines, (lighter, faster, bigger! up to 1800cc!!!! and 150mph +!:cool2::-D:-D:-D), although with simple mods, my version could be adapted to take the K-series engine too.

Blitzworld also sell ready-made ones to order. Also the frame is F.I.A spec cold-drawn, seamless tube, which will withstand 12tons before deforming!, so a luggage rack to carry heavier weights, such as required by the Springer etc shouldn't pose much of a problem....

Mine was originally Yellow and Black, but a few cans of Deep Bronze Green sorted that, and now I'm gradually configuring it as a similar sort of thing to the buggies in the othe part of this thread, only MUCH cheaper!...I managed to get agreed value of £3500, which will only increase when I fit my winch, CB, etc. It's very capable off road, despite only 2wd, as it only weighs about 500kgs! so it fairly shifts well.... , also being so light, it even puts some 4x4's to shame, as it doesn't sink in mud so much, and on the road you don't have to slow down for roundabouts, and it suprises loads of sportsbike riders with it's cornering abilities.....I reckon the M.O.D. have missed these little gems!..... If you want to know more just ask!,.... maybe if you are local?.... come out for a spin?................. I drive it as my everyday car, as it certainly makes my drive to and from work more fun:drive:... even when it's raining!:nut:, or snowing!!!!

    Regards,

    Matt

  5. Having recently returned from Afghanistan and back in work, i got a phonecall to see if i could look over some new bits of kit....basically take them out and see what i thought....

Springer 2. Basically updated version of first one.

Whippet. Small load carrier. Very good x-country.

Dingo. Weird looking but the rear suspension set-up makes it seemingly float over rough terrain. Managed 110km/h on rough terrain!

    In Dingo.

    .........

I have a 'toy' similar to these, in a few ways, except maybe cost-wise...... based on the ever reliable BMC Mini engine, (other engines very easily used, though), here's a few pictures..... mine is capable of road speeds of around 90mph, (at the moment!), and off-road, -whatever you feel comfortable enough to hang on at!:cool2:

    Now it's nice and GREEN!.jpg

  6. Me too, me too!! Many thanks for posting, it is going to take a while to go through all of these!:
.... it's ok, Montie, I found the 'wheely good one',....

It's called 'Mechanised Marvels' the commentator wrongly introduces a Saracen, as a Saladin, but it's definately one of our 'beauties'....... it drives down a steep slope into a wood, where a 'staged' explosion takes place, -watch for the 'flying wheel' :-D(all 200kgs of it!), then a saracen drives out with a front wheel missing (-probably not the same one that drove in....I'll have to watch it again and check their numbers):cool2::cool2:

  7. yes Montie!, ...twas I, but now and then the old thing does have a 'hissy-fit', and requires a more delicate touch and some 'magic engine starter spray'............ + batteries have to be very good condition too.....

  8. believe me.... you woudn't want to be towed either!... 10 tons, no power steering, and the thing WILL NOT steer unless wheels are turning, and even then you'll have needed to have eaten a whole pallet of Shredded Wheat to attempt steering it!, ... and unless the towing vehicle weighs in at least twice as much as a Saracen, you'll pull it off the road too when you try to negotiate a sharp bend in the road!:nono:

  9. Paul,

For me, Richard is the undisputed boffin with the vehicles as has just been displayed! Hopefully it is only something minor!

Regarding uploading of the register, the upload limit is just under 400kB whereas the register is around 1,32MB. Sorry, so no upload there!

yes, Richard certainly does know alot about these sometimes recalcitrant old beasts!, he's put me on the right track a couple of times or so now, too...all hail to Richard!:-D

  10. ha! funny one that!... if you look at the front of the leading one, it has 'L' plates. My educated guess is, they are not in a tactical situation, but possibly a load of learner drivers out on Driver-Training, Cross-Country. Eight or nine trainees, with all their kit takes up a lot of room, hence the need for extra stowage, -a hastily fabricated box, mounted above roof panel.....Well that's what I reckon....

  11. I think there's a fair bit still around the DZ's around Knook Camp, and Imber... on Salisbury Plain.... which is where I SHOULD be, - with my Cadets, -'X' Company, Hants and I.O.W. A.C.F. only my employer is being a tight-wad and won't let me have the week off this week..... extremely gutted, I am....:(

  12. change, or fix fuel pump now....do not run engine til sorted!:nono:

VERY DANGEROUS TO RUN YOUR ENGINE IF THIS HAS HAPPENED .........

sounds like diaphram on pump has perished, they don't last forever on unleaded.....:-|

  13. 'Pathfinder' can't be all that good, see'in as it's nigh on impossible to find anywhere.... even when I tried online, my subscription was ignored..... I did get a look at 1 issue and was far from impressed....

My choices are 'Classic Military Vehicle' No. 1, followed closely by 'MMI', and then the 'Tank' piecework with the diecast tank models on the front....VERY GOOD value.....

  14. I know of a very helpful, and reasonably priced chap, His name is Malcolm Millard and his number is 07802604407, although he is based in Chandlers Ford, near Southampton, he is still very competetive with his prices.... messing about with trucks is virtually his hobby.... and he moves stuff all over the UK, sometimes for the MOD too, I believe.

  15. when checking engine oil on a saracen, according to the manual..... it says start engine, and run for a short while, approx 5 mins, until warm, then check oil level.

I tend to check it 1st, if no oil shows at all on dipstick, add some til it JUST shows on the very tip, then start engine, run for 5 mins and re-check.....
